Travis Bryant, known in the biker world as Curly, spent thirteen hard years behind bars for a heinous crime he didn’t commit. When the truth finally sets him free, nothing remains of his former life. Curly can’t imagine living without the brotherhood of a club. After visiting the Hell’s Handler’s MC, he’s given the go-ahead to open a charter in his home state. Claiming an ol’ lady is the furthest thing from his mind until he meets Brooke, the beautiful, hardheaded dog trainer bent on ending a violent dogfighting ring near her home.
After ten long years married to an abusive narcissist, Brooke vowes she’ll never live under another man’s thumb again. Accepting help doesn’t come easy, but when abandoned dogs begin popping up with fatal injuries, she’ll do anything to put an end to the fighting ring responsible. Even enlist the assistance of the most attractive man she’s ever met and his outlaw MC brothers.
From her feisty, independent spirit to her shapely legs, Brooke appeals to Curly on every level. He can’t stay away, but he’s been burned before and refuses to tie himself to a woman again. Brooke is in a similar boat, having promised herself no man would exert control over her life again. Unfortunately, she can’t kick the curly-haired, muscular man in biker boots out of her head or her bed.
As Brooke and Curly grow closer and danger strikes, will they be able to overcome their past traumas and find strength in each other? Or will they remain stubborn and stick to their guns as their lives crash and burn?
Curly has been given a second chance. And maybe good things will come with that chance. Brooke has a big heart for those that can’t speak for themselves. As you read, she’ll finally reveal what started her path. These are two people who are not like most main characters. They are over 30 and I’m glad the author was willing to take a chance on them.
Characters from her other Hell’s Handlers series make an appearance so if you haven’t read them yet, you may want to check those out before, or even after, you complete this book. I loved the fire our author gave Brooke. The sad part was seeing where that fire came from. But that’s what happens in real life.
Being a big fan of Animal Planet, having animals as part of the storyline is a great lesson in adopt first – rescues even better. There’s a saying about having a heart as big as all outdoors and that is what Curly has. He may have a tough exterior, and has to learn to put a lock around his heart, but that was before Brooke came into his world. Each of them compliments the other.
This was a great read right from the start – for me. If you have triggers to certain things, just know that you might find some things here. We get steam when a scene calls for it. We get suspense when things happen with the club and Brooke. We get cuteness from those that Brooke likes to help. And we get to root for the good guys when required. As well as see how are main characters have similarities.
Our author knows this series very well, considering there’s ten books in the other series and now this one in the new. I’m very interested to see where she plans to go with this new MC. I want to say that the author gave me the perfect ending for Curly and Brooke but I think that I’ll need to read a few more books before I can say that for sure.
