M. Malone

NYT & USA Today bestselling author M. Malone lives in the Washington, DC metro area with her husband and their two sons. She holds a master's degree in Business from a prestigious college that would no doubt be scandalized by how she's using her expensive education.

Independently published, she has sold more than 1/2 million
ebooks in her two series, THE ALEXANDERS and BLUE-COLLAR BILLIONAIRES. Since starting her indie journey in 2011 with the runaway bestselling novella "Teasing Trent," her work has appeared on the New York Times and USA
Today bestseller lists more than a dozen times.

She's now a full-time writer and spends 99.8% of her time in
her pajamas.

Nana Malone

USA Today bestselling author Nana Malone's love of all things romance and adventure started with a tattered romantic suspense novel she "borrowed" from her cousin.

It was a sultry summer afternoon in Ghana, and Nana was a
precocious thirteen. She's been in love with kick-butt heroines ever since.  With her overactive imagination constantly channeling her inner Buffy, it was only a matter a time before she started creating her own characters.

While she waits for her chance at a job as a ninja assassin, Nana works out her drama, passion and sass with fictional characters every bit as brazen and kick-butt as she thinks she is.

Their first chance at love ended in heartbreak

Wade Rycroft fell in love with Geneva Harris when she was the smartest girl in his class. The rodeo star and the shy academic made for an odd pair, but their chemistry was undeniable. They made plans to get married after high school. Those plans changed when Genny broke his heart. Joining the Army gave him a chance to leave that life behind. News that Genny married the town’s golden boy let Wade know that he could never go home again.

A chance encounter rekindles an old flame

Fifteen years later, he’s found his place in the world and tried to forget the woman who left him standing in the rain. After leaving the Army he forged a new life as a bodyguard at McKay-Taggart, but he still feels incomplete. When his brother’s wedding brings him home to Broken Bend, Texas, he walks into a storm of scandal. Genny’s marriage has dissolved, the town has turned against her, and someone is making threats. Seeing her again reawakens feelings he thought were long gone, and he worries that staying close enough to help her could be too much to bear.

Their reunion just might kill them both

After an attempt is made on Genny’s life, Wade can’t refuse to help her. Watching over her day and night, it’s clear that having her back in his life could be the thing to finally make him whole. When the danger follows them back to Dallas, their second chance at love could be over before it even begins.

 Excerpt:

“There’s no reason for you to be jealous of Hutch. He gave me a few kisses, that’s all.”

He dropped her hand, turned, and started back toward the office. Hutch’s truck was still here. He would kill the little fucker and that would teach him. He would torture him first. Hutch liked computers. Wade would see how much he liked them when they were shoved hard up his ass.

“Wade.” Genny ran after him, her laughter a musical sound he didn’t want to hear right now. “Wade, come on. I was joking. He let me raid his desk for chocolate. Those kind of kisses. Please don’t murder him.”

He stopped, completely embarrassed. He hadn’t been thinking. She was used to being around a man who took out his temper on her. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.”

She grinned up at him, her hand on his arm. “You didn’t scare me. Why would you… Wade, I know you’re not Brock. I’ve always known that. I’m not terrified of all men. Hell, I’m not afraid of Big Tag. He’s kind of funny once you let him know where the boundaries are.”

“You gave Tag boundaries?” He’d been afraid to leave her alone with Ian. Not because he thought Ian would hurt her, but because he could be intimidating at times. Now that he thought about it, Big Tag was actually perfect for Genny to start practicing her newfound sass on because he would like her more if she gave him hell.

“Very firm ones, but I also offered him something in exchange. We’re going to get along fine, Tag and I. And Hutch and I are only ever going to be friends. He talks way too much about Game of Thrones, but he does have a lot of candy so it evens out to a nice friendship.” She moved her hand up to his shoulder. “I’m not interested in Hutch, but there is this guy who works in the office I am interested in.”

His whole body went on full alert. He had things to tell her, things that were important, but was here really the place to do that? Here was the place to talk about work things and who she was interested in. Interested in seeing? Interested in spending more time with? “Who might that be?”

Her eyes met his, heating up. “He’s in the bodyguard unit and he told me once that if I ever want a real kiss, I should ask him.”

He could feel the erection coming on like a runaway locomotive. He’d spent the last few months going without. The scene at Sanctum had gotten boring for him. At first it had been filled with excitement, but watching all his friends settle down had made him look at his life in a different way. Having Genny back in it made him absolutely sure he didn’t want casual sex. He wanted a woman who belonged to him, who he belonged to. He wanted disgusting, nasty, utterly committed sex. “Then you should definitely ask.”

“Wade, will you kiss me?”

Exclusive Excerpt:

Cate Pendleton dumped her grocery bags on the kitchen counter and glanced around the living room area of her small one-bedroom condo. Flattened pillows. Magazines spread across the coffee table. A blanket in a ball on the floor from where it slipped off her last night while she watched television. The remote stuffed between cushions.

Everything was exactly where she left it when she took off on her store run an hour ago. But something struck her as off. She felt it rather than saw it. A violation of her scared space. A lingering menace. The sensation of unknown hands skimming over her things. A shiver skated through her at the thought.

With her keys sticking between her fingers like a weapon, she walked around the condo, peeking in the closet and looking inside the bedroom. The journey ended back here she started. She approached the couch nice and slow. She listened for footsteps, but the only sound came from the hiss of her clunky, usually-malfunctioning icemaker.

She leaned toward the cushions, just a bit, and sniffed. There it was. Aftershave. Faint, but present. Since a man hadn’t been in the condo for weeks the smell was out of place. And this was not the first time this had happened. She came home two days ago to the same scent. A mix of musk and orange. The last time it happened in the evening. This time in the morning.

On that first day, she found her patio door unlocked. Living in a city, she didn’t take her personal safety for granted. Being two floors up, tucked behind rows of government buildings and a few blocks back from the National Air and Space Museum in downtown Washington, D.C., she kept her guard up. The neighborhood served as home to many congressional staffers. Traffic, both human and the car variety, moved in a steady beat. But she knew better than to assume everything was fine. She locked her doors. All of them and all the time, but someone got in.

A punch of awareness moved though her as she brushed her fingertips over the arm of the chair. The idea of someone snooping through her stuff, standing in her space, made her gag. Last time nothing was stolen, so she skipped calling the police with that fear. Wrote the whole thing off as faulty memory. She knew something strange had happened, but she blocked it and pretended otherwise. But this was different. From the first whiff of that cologne, the trembling started deep down in her stomach, spun up to her head and would not stop.

She forced her mind to focus. Someone kept getting in without leave much of a trail. They didn’t stick around, and for that she was grateful. Nothing stolen. Not obviously, anyway.

Her sister. That’s what this had to be about. Cate thought back to the last six weeks and all the ground she’d covered. She poked around, asked uncomfortable questions and clearly upset someone. She got too close, which was exactly her plan. Maybe she uncovered some piece of information she hadn’t realized yet. But she would.

If someone broke in thinking they’d figure out her strategy or grab every lead she’d collected, they miscalculated. No way would she make it that easy for anyone to destroy her work or derail her.

After the first time this happened, she called the police but that led nowhere. A second call likely would end the same way. They would ignore her, write her off as the crazy one with the dead sister. Add to that her complaint wouldn’t pinpoint any clear evidence. This was about a sense of a presence, of being spooked, and she would become the new lunchtime story for the officers.

But she knew. He had been there. He or she. The person knew how to get in and was playing with her. The next time she might come home too soon.

Despite her worries and the downsides, she picked up the phone and dialed the one person who might be able to help her, the mysterious D.C. fixer. The guy no one ever saw who went by one name – Wren.

Loving The Book Presents: Great Summer Reads; #CountdownBlitz, #NowAvailable, #OutNow, #Giveaway

Morgan J Muir lives in Utah with her fantastic husband, three offspring, and as many cats (but she doesn’t carry them with kits in sacks, and has never been to St. Ives). She grew up riding horses and motorcycles and listening to her grandmother read poetry. She grew up reading any sci-fi/fantasy novel she could get her hands on and so was surprised the day she discovered that she also really enjoyed historical fiction.

Morgan always loved to write and draw and her parents always liked to say that they knew she’d write a book some day.  Ever since she was small she told stories and drew pictures for her tales.  When she got old enough, all of her spare time between classes was spent writing and she always had a notebook with her.

Her first novel was originally written after her first child was born, to help her pass the long, lonely hours as a new stay-at-home mom.  As her kids got older and more came she was too busy to do much with her stories, until one year she was introduced to NaNoWriMo, which finally rekindled the spark that led her to finish what she’d started.

Morgan’s favorite authors are Brandon Sanderson, Kristen Britain and Marion Zimmer Bradley.

Mariah has chosen to become a vampire, but she can’t remember why.

Upon waking in the labyrinthine caves of Sophus, a centuries-old vampire, Mariah can’t remember all the choices that brought her there, but she does know there are dangerous secrets hidden within her.  As she learns to control her powerful new body— and its bloodthirsty urges— Mariah discovers a unique ability to travel through a world of spirit, the key to remembering her past, and possibly the future.

At first, it seems her path is simple: learn to control her bloodlust, find her missing husband, and return with him to raise their son. However, things are more complicated than they seem, and neither Sophus nor her husband’s captor is willing to let them go. Mariah must use whatever skills she can to find her husband and protect her still-mortal son, but will it be enough?

Snippet:

Lying in Mariah’s hand was a small, brightly woven bag. The colors jumped out at her, like a story begging to be heard. They pulled at her mind, encouraging her to open the bag. She loosened the ties and a small, red stone, carved in the shape of a bird, tumbled onto Mariah’s hand. Tu’uma, the word came to her mind, a sacred, precious stone to the Wayuu. She ran her fingers gently over the bird as memory teased at her. Focusing on the figure in her hand, she allowed her mind to wander.
As before when she’d entered the spirit world, Mariah found herself standing in the field, this time bursting with flowers, as the scent of impending rain and the breeze holding whispering voices washed over her. Raising her hand to inspect the figurine, she found instead a living bird who flitted around her, his black feathers glinting with gold.
Well, hello there, she said, and he trilled at her, dancing in the air. He darted around her head, and as she turned, she saw in the distance a fire burning, like a large campfire. Her stomach knotted at seeing it. It was waiting for her.

MEET THE AUTHOR:

I was born in the southern United States in 1975. My family moved around so often that Anywhere, USA became home; as long as it was below the Mason Dixon line. I started college at Northwestern State University of Louisiana, but after three semesters decided I lacked the desire to follow the daily routine and strict schedule required to be a successful college student. I was a wild card...an ADHD poster child.

One day I realized that my life had been scattered, and in that moment I could suddenly, and clearly see the results of a life that held no sense of direction. It was my life, and a life that embarrassed me because of my lack of accomplishments. With different careers and life experiences littering my past, I turned to the one thing I had always been good at...being creative.

I was good at thinking up exciting tales which was a result of always wanting to be more and live a bigger life. I was a dreamer with a large imagination. I decided that it is never too late, and life was too short to not leave something behind for others. For the first time, writing made me feel accomplished. All my scattered thoughts and meandering paths that I had traveled suddenly made sense. Though my experiences didn't lead to any great accomplishments in my younger years, they are now finding their place in the characters of my stories.

I am very excited to offer bits and pieces of my life experiences, fantasies, and observations to you in the form of words on a page. I am loosely woven through the pages of my books and I look forward to meeting you there.

My Thoughts:

Contessa “Tessa” Holly is ready to make her way in the world.  She has a great friend in Maggie.  You may end up liking her as much as I did – she was great in getting me to chuckle.  Barclay Hammond is the man in charge.  In his personal life he’s not as in control.  Our author was great in building her story before our main characters attempt any type of relationship.

Tessa shows how tough it is to give up everything to try and make your way in one of the largest cities in our country.  You can almost picture how tough it was on her - giving herself a short amount of time to try and make her dreams come true.  But then she gets an unexpected surprise.  We get a good sense of her apprehension when temptation is put in her path.

Barclay is a man who seems self-assured at least in business but when it comes to matters of the heart not so much.  He asks for help from a good friend – I almost wanted to see where that advice was going to take him.  I also wanted to know more about this friend.

I liked how our author gave me a connection to Tessa – we both have blogs.  It was nice to see how it connected her to the opportunities that opened up for her.  This book was listed as an office romance but I can’t really say as I agree with that since our main characters don’t actually meet at the office.  I loved that Barclay is a man of experience.  Not every good-looking hunky guy has to be in his twenties or thirties.

Our author’s story is very realistic.  I’ve been to New York just to visit.  I’ve never wanted to live there but I applaud anyone who has jumped in with both feet to make their way in that town.  It’s a town where you can feel very lonely but I was glad to see that Tessa had a friend who wanted to follow her dream as well.  She was able to find what her heart wanted.  I was very glad that I had a chance to get to know these characters.

BOSSY NIGHTS_4.jpg

Excerpt:

“Where are we going?” She turns a curious eye toward me, tilting her head to the side. I glance over my shoulder as I guide her a few steps away and around a corner.

“Trust me?” She nods, and I point to the closed door in front of us.

“The cloakroom?” she asks with a teasing smile.

“Shush,” I whisper, twisting the handle to see if it’s locked. It moves in my hand. I’m in luck.

I open the door wide enough for us both to slide inside, then leave it cracked a few inches so a sliver of light streams in. Aside from a few empty hangers on a rod, the room is bare.

“What are we doing in here?” Tessa asks, but her eager eyes give her away. She wants me as much as I want her.

“I need something from you before we join the others.” I lean forward and speak into her ear.

“What’s that?” she breathes.

“This.” I place my hands on her back. She shivers at my touch, following with a sweet sigh. My fingers trail over her velvety skin, lingering at the simple hook connecting her lone strap. If only we had more time. “Your skin’s so smooth and silky.”

I bend down and kiss her lips, and she returns it with a passion matching mine. Tessa links her fingers behind my neck, and we are lost in each other. Minutes later, when we both need to draw in a breath, I move my lips down her neck and over the exposed curves of her breasts.

“I want to taste all of you,” I say against her skin, and feel her pulse racing like mine.

Dropping to my knee, I bring my hands to the back of her toned legs, and trace the delicate skin behind her knees. Her muscles flex and release in anticipation. With a feather like touch, I inch up her thighs, finding the lacy edge of her panties. “Has anyone touched you here?”

“No one,” she blows out between labored breaths. She gazes down at me with eyes full of desire, but there’s a tentativeness in them I can’t ignore. My touches, and the promise of more between us, are new and unchartered territory for her.

I rise to my full height, changing our position. Looking down at her, I wonder if this beautiful woman is ready for what I want to do to her and what we can be together. I have to ease her into things, build her confidence. It should be her decision to freely give into the passion and trust me. Let me make her mine. I won’t push her from the base of the mountain to the peak in one night.

“I want to be the first. Are you okay with that?” I run my fingers over the curve of her shoulders.

“Yes, please,” she begs.
