He's my nemesis.
My tormentor.
A notorious criminal with a smoldering smile to mask the devil hidden beneath.
My tormentor.
A notorious criminal with a smoldering smile to mask the devil hidden beneath.
Conniving. Threatening. Brutal.
He stalks me from the shadows.
Makes me itch to place him behind bars.

But he has an offer I can't refuse.
A major risk with the perfect reward.

I can't let down my guard.
Can't be tempted to trust him.
Can't be tempted to trust him.
Not even when I begin to understand his corrupt ways.
Because the only face the devil shows is the one he wants you to see.
And all I’m seeing is hunger.

My Thoughts:
Cole Torian is holding in a lot of hurt and anger. Anissa Fox just wants to see justice served. As these two dance around each other, you can feel the tension and the electricity that surround them. You will also see her trying to fight an addiction. It’s not a person, well not directly, and not to drugs. Hers seems to be her job and I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing.
I really enjoyed all the cat and mouse play that went on while Anissa tries to solve something that she can’t let go. Cole seems to take a back seat in order to let her shine but you can see him tug on that invisible leash every once in a while. I almost expected to hear a tango or even some Latin music during some of their scenes.
This author may have created a dark story but this has to be my favorite so far. It has some meat that I can really sink my teeth into. It’s a story of the testing of wills. Once you see that the test has started you’re not going to stop until the dust has settled.
If you’ve followed this author at all you’ll know who Hunter and Decker are. What was nice was you will get to catch up because they make an appearance – that was very nice of Ms. Summers to do. If you’ve not read much of this author’s work you may want to start with their stories first. It’s been a while since I read their books so even for me I may go back and read these three books again. The ending also left me curious. What’s up with Luca and do I smell the next book and maybe even the one after that?
