My Thoughts:

Finley has really grown since the first book – good reason to not start the series here.  The group, as a whole, is still trying to figure out what’s going on.  Carrick seems more of a guiding force in this story.  With this story, we get to see more intermingling with what us mere humans would not normally see. 

 

I had a hard time figuring out why we only get to hear Finley’s point of view but I think that I finally figured it out.  In my opinion it’s because of how important she is to what’s happening and her connection to it all.  There are a lot of secondary characters that help her move this story along.  We rely on her to give us how she feels about them – friend or foe.  She needs all the right people around her to accomplish her mission. 

 

The author’s good at giving us plenty of action and suspense.  It was interesting to watch all of Finley’s emotions and to see what all the other characters show.  Just like how it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a group to overcome what has yet to happen.  They are here to get answers to the questions that have developed over the previous three books. And they also help to lead us to one last cliffhanger.  Which leaves me with mixed emotions. 

 

The author has done such a good job at getting her readers involved in a series like nothing they may have read before.  Each book that comes out is like a steppingstone to the next.  In this case, we already have the feeling that the next will hold all the answers as well as the ending.  And that in a way is bittersweet.
