After reading the blurb, you may know what your next read is going to be. Or a re-read – depending on which applies to you.
The author starts her tale off with the reader feeling sorry for Jackie. Had me wanting to grab the phone she was holding and tell the person on the other end to hire a professional. She did a good job in getting me to feel very protective of Jackie – could picture myself in her shoes. I started hoping that she created the perfect man that would be just what Jackie needs.
Miles believes in keeping his business safe. It was easy to see how much he cares about the people in his employ. But there are rules he expects to be followed or there are consequences. That’s one thing that adds a sense of realism to this tale. He was good at bringing Jackie out of her shell and finding out who she was meant to be.
Early on, our author writes scenes that certainly will grab the reader’s attention. With everything going on, she knows just the right time to turn up the heat and when to turn it down to a simmer – both of which she does very well. When it comes to the suspense, my mind jumped ahead by forming my own conclusion – watching too many reality crime shows will do that to you. If you start the book early enough, and have nothing on your schedule, you will be able to get this finished in one day.
This story is less about Miles being a cocky man and more into how it ties into the series. It certainly does that. I was left wanting to go to Vegas and follow Jackie’s movements from beginning to end – what a great way to retrace some of the characters steps. I might even get a different perspective as to what was going on.
