Disclosure of Material Connection:  I received this book for review from Buoni Amici Press and the author. I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am posting this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255: "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising".

As a local domestic violence and sexual assault counselor, the respect of her community is critical to Lorna Reardon. That would be hard to maintain if they found out she was seeing a younger man.

Twelve years doesn’t matter to Gant “G-man” Meadows. Once he tells Tank Reardon that his mom is “hot,” Tank and Pops go to work on Lorna until she gives the guy a chance. For a firefighter, metalsmith, and former motorcycle club member, Gant is surprisingly genteel, spiritual, and gentle. He’s also determined to keep her safe from an unexpected threat, even though she’s relegated him to nothing more than a dirty little secret in her life.

Gant’s sworn he’ll love her forever, and he’s willing to make the ultimate sacrifice with no regret. The regret will be all Lorna’s. Regret that’s harsh. Regret that’s sharp. Regret that’s deep.

Regret that will last forever.

My Thoughts:

Gant is a first responder and that’s just his side job.  His other job is just as interesting.  Lorna likes that she’s gotten noticed by a man.  There’s an age difference between the two but it seems to bother her more than it does Gant.

Our author has created an age-gap that I found didn’t matter.  It mattered more to Lorna than anything else.  I actually felt sorry for Gant.  He’s a nice caring guy and she’s a woman who seems to think things to death.  If I was in his circle of friends, I probably would have told him to move on.  I have to think that the author took lots of time when it came to these two.  If she can get the reader involved and wanting to meet with one of the main characters, you have to figure that she’s pretty creative.

For Gant’s sake I really did want to like Lorna.  For being so smart she came off as pretty dumb sometimes.  Society has changed a lot, especially in recent years, but when I try to picture her, I start to go back several decades in my head.  I looked forward to the suspense and wanting to see how that was all going to play out.  Sorry to say but Lorna did not hold my attention for most of the story due to the way she treated Gant.  She made my fingers itch to move ahead in the book.

But I’m glad that I talked myself out of it.  I was glad to see that Gant got what he wanted but my head was still not sure about Lorna.  I kept hearing the saying, “a leopard can’t change its spots” when I thought of her.  The ending left me wanting to see what would happen over time.  I guess that just means reading more of the series to see if these two will pop up in something along the way.

Deanndra Hall is a working author living in the far western end of the beautiful Bluegrass State with her husband of over 35 years and small menagerie of weird little dogs. When she’s not writing, she’s editing. When she’s doing neither of those two things, she’s having dinner with friends, spending time with family, kayaking, eating chocolate, drinking beer or moonshine, or looking for something that she put in the wrong place and can’t seem to find (which is pretty much everything she owns).
