As the fire department’s joker, Kyle (Sumo) Matsumoto, loves nothing better than ribbing the guys at the station. However, he’s all business when he’s on a call, and when he tries to snag the attention of a cute little baker.
Then life takes a more serious turn when he’s plunged headfirst into fatherhood—of a teenage boy—giving his teammates the last laugh.
For almost a year, Annie Flowers has been tucked away in plain sight. It’s amazing what a pair of colored contacts and a different haircut can accomplish. She likes her new, simple life in Durango with her only concern getting up on time for her morning shift at the bakery.
Yet she’s not as invisible as she thinks. Not to the creep who chased her into hiding, and definitely not to the charming EMT with a penchant for sweets .
Annie trusts only one person, her friend, Erin Gardner, but she’s in Texas, so when she discovers someone has been leaving her unwanted gifts, she has no choice but to put her faith in Sumo.

My Thoughts:
Sumo seems to be a multi-faceted individual. Any woman would be happy to snap him up. Especially if you like them a little older or younger – depending on whether you want to let it slip how old you actually are. Annie enjoys what she does. There were times where I wanted the ability to have smell-a-vision on my e-reader. Other times, I wanted to go have a cuddlefest. But one thing that comes across is how sweet she is – I can almost hear her when she talks and she seems to be someone who would be soft-spoken.
Be prepared to laugh or maybe even snicker. Sometimes you might feel like you’re laughing at someone else’s expense. This just shows that our author knows what she’s doing. She creates some great secondary characters that I can’t decide who I like the best. Some of them give me the feeling that they have their own story to tell or it’s already out so I have some digging to do – you may come away with the same feeling.
What I liked the most was how the author was willing to make our hero someone who’s no longer in his thirties. A man can still be sexy even though he’s got a sprinkle of gray. He’s not a man who’s ready to find a place to retire. He has a demanding job and personal life and he’s up for the challenge. I liked getting Annie’s opinion on him as well. He’s also willing to do whatever needs to be done in order to find his happy place.
This is a story where you will see how creative this author can be. She creates a couple of mysteries that appear all too real – must be because I watch too much of the Oxygen and ID network shows. But that’s what had me glued to my seat as I try to figure out how all of this gets solved and where do I go from here – where reading is concerned. But then I read the magic words “The End” and came upon something that had me go “oh!” That just may have given me the answer I was looking for.
USA Today bestselling author Freya Barker loves writing about ordinary people with extraordinary stories.
Driven to make her books about 'real' people; she creates characters who are perhaps less than perfect, each struggling to find their own slice of happy, but just as deserving of romance, thrills and chills in their lives.
