She cannot resist the man behind the mask . . .
As the illegitimate daughter of a Scottish earl, Lady Magdalen Keith is not one to partake in lavish balls or other frivolities. Yet at her father's urging, she agrees to dance with the battle-weary officers at this year's holiday masquerade. It's practically her civic duty! But when one such officer—whose dashing good looks cannot be disguised by a mere mask—sweeps her off her feet and into his arms, the innocent lass can't help herself. Her lips are his for the taking.
But will he betray his country for a kiss?
Navy lieutenant Aiden Murray has spent too many months at sea to be immune to the charms of this lovely beauty. Even after he returns to his ship, she lives in his dreams. But when he discovers Maddie's true identity—and learns that her father is accused of treason—will the brawny Scot risk his life to follow his heart?

My Thoughts:
Lady Magdalen “Maddie” Keith
shows the reader that even though we may have family we can still feel
alone. And also what happens when we
become useful to them. Aiden Murray is on
his way to a celebration. It had me
wishing that I could join in.
Our author shows how tough it was
to be a woman during that time period.
But some women had to take on some things that men would do. We see how the child can pay for mistakes of
the parents and due to no fault of their own they are snubbed because of
it. Every time you turn around something
else is happening that your head may start to spin. Be prepared for some really hot and heavy
scenes between our main characters – good thing the temp dropped outside
because I don’t know if my fan would cool me down enough. Ms. Jarecki also creates a secondary
character that had me constantly wanting to know his true agenda.
Would love to read this book
again but have Celtic music playing in the background. A disappointment I had was not being able to
read with a Scottish accent – maybe I’ll have to take an ad out and have them
read to me. Of course having watched the
Outlander series, I can tell you who
I hope will apply. Found the Author’s
Note interesting because the author explains a little bit about the writing of
this story.
You will feel sorry for all the
trials that Maddie seems to go through.
You’ll feel happy for her as she tries to find where she fits into her
world and that of Aiden’s. There is a
few times where you may even giggle at some of the scenes that our author has created. And then you may fall in love with how
attentive Aiden seems to be when he’s in the same space as Maddie. In amongst this there’s some mystery and
suspense where you may try to hold your breath.
I loved how the reader gets a preview as to the next book in the series
titled The Highland Guardian. I’ll have to make sure to check it out.
