Disclosure of Material Connection:  I received this book for review from Xpresso Book Tours and the author.  I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review.  The opinions I have expressed are my own.  I am posting this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255:  "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising".

They wanted a girl quickly so they chose an orphanage where no one would ask questions.
They planned to use her until she was pregnant…
Instead they got twenty-one-year-old American Starla Anderson.
When the Russian Mafia invades the orphanage where she lives, in the middle of the night, throwing the nuns who raised her, into a petrified frenzy, it’s Starla who is chosen as the only one who could possibly survive the Bratva and their demands.
But in spite of her own fear of the three massive, glowering and scary men, Starla has to think and act fast…
With her heart thundering in her chest, her body on fire at their presence alone, she sees an opportunity, something that might help the other girls at the impoverished orphanage at a chance of a better life. She lays out her only condition.
Her body for a fee…
Except…
No one says no to the Bratva.

EXCERPT:

“Turn around,” he said pronouncing every word in Russian.
Starla had run out of things to say and think and so she did the only thing she was capable of doing. She stuck her tongue out at him. Like really hard.
“Do that one more time.” He dared.
And so she did.
And he, this massive hulking form of a man, maybe twice and half her size, moved with the lightning speed of a cheetah and clamped his teeth down on her tongue stuck out between her lips.
He stunned her into utter silence, shocked her to her core, and destroyed her mind. If she was lost for thought before, now every cognitive facility she had curled up and died.

My Thoughts:

Starla Anderson’s life is about to change.  She tries to be brave but it’s hard when she’s trying to fight for what she believes in.  Then we have three men who just seem so over the top.  They are supposed to be Bratva but seem more like bullies.

This story is pure fantasy.  That’s a good thing since I couldn’t believe that any of this could be based on reality.  The issue I had with this story was how the three men treated Starla.  Her wishes and wants didn’t seem to matter except for what she could do for them.  One of the genres listed was reverse harem and I thought this was not even close to what I think of when I hear harem.

The only one that seems to think something is wrong is Starla herself.  That’s about the only thing realistic that I found here.  She tries really hard to fight for what she believes in.  But it’s hard when there are three against one.  I might have found it more believable if I saw more of the Bratva lifestyle instead of three brutish men going after something that’s required of them and forget about respecting other human beings.

There were glimmers of hope every once in a while and for that I give the author kudos but I wanted more of those glimmers.  I can’t complain about the author’s writing style because her scenes move seamlessly from one to the next.  Maybe if I thought there could be an actual relationship between our characters than I would have found that glimmer that would hook me into the story.  Just because a man is pretty doesn’t mean the heart matches the outside.  There seemed to be more tears than hearts and flowers.  It was near to impossible to see anything happy about this story.

Just because this is my first book by this author doesn’t mean it will be my last.  Everyone deserves a second chance and I would like to see what else this author has in her library.  I want the chance to slow down and read her work instead of doing something I haven’t done in a while and that’s speed-read.  I want the chance to see an ending where I didn’t roll my eyes – I like a story I can connect to.

Author Bio:

Chloe Kent has been hooked on romance since her teens and couldn't wait to grow up and write her own romance novels. Her spirited heroines usually require at least two... sometimes more incredibly hot heroes to keep her happy and that's exactly how Chloe writes them.
Her favorite pastimes include her husband, her dog, and books. Her biggest fear is running out of coffee or her imagination.
