My Thoughts:
It’s hard to think that anything about this series is happy. Don’t let the words of the series fool you. Our characters seem to have more intellect than someone who is still in high school.
Abigail “Abby” Hearst-Manning seems to be resigned to her fate but that doesn’t mean that she has to be happy about it. One thing that impressed me was that the author took her time to build Abby’s side of the story before changing it over so we get Kaiden “Kai” Anderson’s perspective about what is going on.
This books is a reminder that you can’t start this series here because you won’t know what came before – how our characters got to this point in their lives. It’s a story where the family dynamic may be totally different than your own and that’s what will keep you turning page after page. For me, this was more of a suspense than anything else.
Here, I felt unsure of Abby and her motive as to what her goal was going to be. Kai seemed to take a backseat and lets Abby run the show. There are moments where you may or may not feel sympathy. But the hard part is trying to figure out who is innocent and whose not. The one question I had was how our main couple was going to end up being happy. Our author shows that it can be done.
But I do have to say that I’m a little confused. In getting my part in the book’s blog tour ready, I see the word “conclusion” but when I get to the end of the book, and in looking at the series on GoodReads, I get a different sense about the series. That just means that I will have to play very close attention to what Ms. Davis writes so that I don’t miss a thing because there are characters I’m not sure she’s done with yet.
