Was the one night stand a good idea?
Well, no. Probably not in retrospect.
In my defense I had just moved back into my grandparent’s house, I’d lost my dream job, and a guy on Tinder had stood me up. It was like life had suddenly stamped ‘LOSER’ on my forehead.
So when the guy behind the bar started giving me THE look…you know, the one that promised I’d be screaming his name into the wee hours of the morning? When that guy also has the perfect amount of scruff on his chiseled chin, biceps bulging out of his t-shirt, and a cocky grin you knew he’d earned in the sack…when he gives you that look, you don’t bother to figure out what your six degrees of separation are. You jump on that horse and ride it!
Pun fully and completely intended. And accurate by the way.
I fully admit to feeling sorry for myself and acting impulsively, but by the time I’d figured out WHO the bartender was, I was already falling for him.
** Note: This book was previously titled "The Bartender". Same great story with a fresh new look.**
Our authors always seem to give me a book that I’d rather listen to and this was one of those times that I did. The narrators helped me get to know our main characters. They put a voice to people that I seem to understand better because I can hear the emotions that come across differently than when I read the book myself. My snarkiness probably wouldn’t do justice to either character. The characters also have me thinking about going to a bar to listen to the book but I decided against it. Somehow, I don’t think the establishment would like that unless I kept ordering something. Parking in my recliner seemed to be the best idea with my drink of choice that I can nurse as long as I want to.
The story starts with a misunderstanding. One thing I loved is how our authors can make it both interesting and funny. It’s also interesting how they can take an inanimate object and make it part of one of the funniest scenes. Whitney has two good friends that she would do anything for. Cole is a man that doesn’t want to be known for his family name but for what he’s trying to create. This quickly became addictive and I hated having to put it down. Our narrators and authors make a great team and made it near impossible to stop listening. Especially after our main characters first interaction.
If you love romantic comedies then this is a book to add to your TBR list. This is the first book of a series that I can’t wait to get to know better. Now that I’ve started with an audio version, I need to continue the same way. If you’ve read Piper Rayne’s work before than you know you’re going to have a really funny time. I cannot wait to see what our authors are going to come up with next. You might too since the next two stories involve Whitney’s friends.
