My Thoughts:
Romeo takes the Prologue to talk to the reader – gives us a sense of what he’s thinking and feeling. That includes the war his head and heart are having. Eden has a lot of hurt in her heart but she also seems at war. She certainly has a strong will and will fight for those she loves.
I found their names to be interesting. Did each author choose a name? Was Romeo named after a Shakespearean character? Will tragedy play a role here? How about Eden? Is her name like the forbidden garden? What happens if they take a taste of what it has to offer?
The authors use quotes which I found myself curious about. Are they familiar to them? With all the quotes out in space, how do you go about choosing those that fit the chapter? I enjoyed reading them just as much as the chapter itself.
Romeo has a strong personality that comes across quite clearly as you get to know him. At times, Eden seemed reserved but you could always tell when her heart was doing the thinking instead of her head. There are a couple of secondary characters that are important to the flow of this story. One may seem to be a strong man but it seems like he clings to the shadows. The other is a little boy that will quickly work his way into your heart. The authors are good though in not letting him overtake things since we know how sometimes they can – by no fault of their own.
Some authors will take a story and start from the past and work the story toward the present. These authors mix the past with the present. I felt like this was a good choice because it shows how a period of time in the past can affect the present time. The heat created gathers strength and it was great to watch but the back and forth with the main characters is what held my attention. It was a matter of seeing whose strength of will was going to win out or would they learn to meet in the middle. Sadly, the authors didn’t give me any type of ending even though they wrote those dreaded two words. Happily, come next Spring maybe I can see if an ending is coming or if we are on a journey to learn more about Romeo’s family.
