Landry had always imagined at the age of sixty-two that he would be rocking his grandchildren and enjoying a life of retirement.
Life has a funny way of disrupting your plans, and Landry just hired a twenty-three-year-old single mother as his assistant who seems to do just that… stand in the way of his plans.
He’s raised his three children to adulthood. He’s supposed to be settled down. However, he can’t seem to get Tennessee Bradley out of his head.
She consumes his every waking thought.
She’s too young for him.
Far too young.
Except, she’s everything he thought that he could never have in a partner. She’s soft, gentle, caring, and kind.
Is it just a fantasy, or could she be his future?
The Prologue is a rough read because it’s something that happens way too often. For some it could be a trigger. If you’ve gone through something that is very personal and has affected you deeply, just be warned. It’s not the main focus of what this book is about but it gives you some background information on one of the main characters.
Tennessee has a great family support system. Landry is not happy with the cards his life has been dealt. You will find with this book that even some of the secondary characters are important to the development of the story.
I had a sense that sometimes in order to see what’s in front of us, we need a fresh pair of eyes. It helps us to appreciate things we’ve taken for granted. It may even give us a sense of what we’ve been missing. Even though this is a work of fiction there are some things that may give you pause.
This has one of the biggest age gaps that I’ve read so far. But if certain things weren’t mentioned, or brought to my attention, I don’t think you’d even realize it. It also has me rethinking of when I look at a couple – yes, I am like others that rush to judgement. We assume something without having any facts. We judge people by the way they look. This was a good reminder that who am I to judge someone when I don’t even know these people.
The author reminded me that you can find love at any time. When it’s right, it’s right. We can’t control the person the heart, and yes even the mind, want to connect with. Sometimes the road is rocky but we just have to persevere to get to that happy ending. The author left me with hope that we’ll get to see more of Landry’s family.
Born in California, she met her now husband at the age of sixteen and married him at the age of twenty in 2004. After all of these years together, he’s still the love of her life.
Hayley’s husband joined the military and they lived in Oregon, where he was stationed with the US Coast Guard. They moved back to California in 2006, where they had two little boys. Recently, the four of them moved out to the Hill Country of Texas, where they adopted a new family member, a chocolate lab named Optimus Prime.
Most of Hayley’s days are spent taking care of her two boys, going to the baseball fields for practice, or helping them with homework. Her evenings are spent with her husband and her nights—those are spent creating alpha book boyfriends.
