A monstrous fate will turn a girl into a legend.
On an island in Lake Obersee, where The Sisters of St. Gertrude abide, a destitute Moor named Durra arrives. Sold for taxes, she and her two companions tend to the nuns and their collection of cats. At night, she combs the library for details on the order, the remote island, and the beasts howling outside her window.
But when a prank reveals the sisters’ gruesome secret, Durra is forced to accept a new fate. Bestowed an unearthly power, she must choose between life as a nun or living among the monsters beyond the convent walls.
Her path is about to change the tide in the ultimate war. The war between good and evil.
My Thoughts:
Durra’s only a teenager and already her life is about to change. Sounds like what any of us would go through as we go from young adult to adult. But how many of us can say that they experience something that can’t be explained?
We’re in the Fall season where I live and this book comes out just a couple of weeks before Halloween. What better time to enjoy the book with a cup of hot apple cider. Maybe sitting outside while the leaves are changing/starting to come off the trees. Maybe you are one that like to watch paranormal/horror movies. This might be a perfect fit for you.
Our author has written a book that would be good for teens to adults. If you’re thinking of giving a copy to your son/daughter, niece/nephew, or grandson/granddaughter, maybe check it out for yourself first. I think you’ll feel better about your choice because if you’re comfortable reading the book then so will they.
The author was good at making me feel as if I was a part of what was developing in Durra’s tale. If you’re easily spooked, just hug a pillow – remember those movies where you hid behind one. Another thing you could try is not reading the book at night – but if you love that sort of thing then you should be fine. At times I felt like I could hear eerie music playing – helps to set the tone of this read. But the ending left me feeling like this tale isn’t over yet.
