They say going home is easy, and in all reality, it should be. Just not for me.
The small, one-horse town that gave me my roots, that made my soul thrive, is also the place I never wanted to set foot in again. I left everything behind and never looked back. Until now. With the death of the man who raised me, I’m forced to return to Boone.
Old wounds resurface, and heartache and loss trump everything once more.
Seeing the man who shattered my world the night of our high school graduation almost brings me to my knees. Jessie, my once best friend and love of my life, ruined it all for me…for us.
I’m back in Boone…and my secret is about to rattle the tiny town.

My Thoughts:
Jules Jones has stepped back in time with mixed emotions. She has two special people on opposite ends
of the age spectrum and they will steal your heart. Jessie has regrets for decisions made in the
past. But is he able to change the
future?
If you’re feeling down, Whit will cheer you up and get you to
laugh. But there are plenty of sad
moments between these pages. They are
things that can lay heavy on the heart.
I liked how the author turns a dark moment into a funny one. Something else I liked, even though there
might be those that don’t, was that Jules didn’t filter her vocabulary when she
was around Whit.
Besides that, we have a young child that talks way beyond her
years. She surprises both the characters
and me – she’s so intuitive for one so young.
That doesn’t stop me from falling in love. On the flip side is how sad it is that people
can be so judgmental. Then the author
lightens the mood again, which means one more chance to laugh.
I hate to say it but Whit seemed to outshine her parents. It was her scenes that had me turning the page
because I wanted to see what she was going to do and say next. Her parents are trying to get a second chance
and she was the one that wanted to make that happen. Their thoughts seem to constantly get in
their way. Our author’s characters seem
relatable but it can be a little frustrating that Whit seems more in tune with
what her parents need more than they do.
The ending seems so them and you wouldn’t expect anything less.
MEET THE AUTHOR:
HJ Bellus is a small town girl who loves the art of storytelling. When not making readers laugh or cry, she's a part-time livestock wrangler that can be found in the middle of Idaho, shotgunning a beer while listening to some Miranda Lambert on her Beats and rocking out in her boots.
