He saved her life…she saved his soul.
Garrett Hawkins is the most valuable asset to his Special Forces unit, because, frankly, the guy doesn’t care if he lives or dies anymore. Since the love of his life, Sage Weston, was kidnapped and killed with her medical unit a year ago, Garrett has turned the shell of his soul into the armor of a finely tuned fighting machine. Being the first tapped for the unit’s craziest missions is just fine by him. The less time for memories and the agony they carve into his soul, the better.
It’s a plan that works, until Garrett’s world is upended one night in the jungles of Thailand. Memories become reality when the unit is called to rescue a group of kidnapped aid workers, and they discover Sage and her teammate among the retrieved women. Now that Sage is back in his arms, Garrett doesn’t know what to do. He has changed in dramatic ways, especially in the darker tastes of his passion. If he touches Sage again, he’ll want to claim her, restrain her...dominate her.
Is Sage’s love strong enough to let Garrett back in, not only as her fiancé but her Dominant? Can she trust that visiting the new shadows of his life will lead her to ecstasy and not ruin? Or can Garrett’s discipline be exactly what her soul needs to find its way back to life—and love—again?

My Thoughts:

Garrett Hawkins has a sad realization.  He’s a man with a few hard edges.  But there’s a woman who doesn’t care.  Sage Weston is in need of some serious help.  It’s a stark reminder of how some men feel about women.  But the author creates a woman character that’s very resilient.

This may be a work of fiction but with our current state of affairs you could picture some of the events actually making an appearance on the nightly news.  Sage is a woman who has been through a lot but just like a true woman she comes out stronger for what she’s had to endure.

Garrett is a man who thinks he knows what’s best.  Can you hear me laugh?  Men don’t know us very well if that’s what they think.  I loved when Sage called B.S.  I could almost hear Sage say “duh!”  That’s when you know an author is doing their job – when you can hear the characters talking in your head as you read the story that the author has crafted.

If you have a thing for romantic suspense and don’t mind some erotic hints you just might enjoy this first in the Honor Bound series.  How about a second chance at finding something you thought you’d never have again.  How about an alpha male, short of beating his chest, telling his “Jane” what’s what.  How about said “Jane” not willing to take his word as law?  I have two thumbs up with the ending.  The author gives us a teaser of book two of the series that I was happy to see.  I can’t wait and the good news is that it just came out so I don’t have to.
