Loving The Book Presents: Monster Mash #CountdownBlitz; #TheUnmistakableScentOfGardenias by #DeniseMoncrief, #OutNow, #Giveaway

Denise is a Southern girl who has lived in Louisiana all her life, and yes, she has a drawl. She has a wonderful husband and two incredible children, who not only endure her writing moods, but also encourage her to indulge her writing passion. Besides writing romantic suspense, she enjoys traveling, reading, and cooking.

Accounting is a skill she has learned to earn a little money to support her writing habit. She wrote her first story when she was a teen, seventeen handwritten pages on school-ruled paper and an obvious rip-off of the last romance novel she had read. She's been writing off and on ever since, and with more than a few full-length manuscripts already completed, she has no desire to slow down.

Content with the direction her life takes…

The temptation to earn a sweet payday and collect enough money to start her own interior design business is too much opportunity for Sophia Cannon to ignore, but working for her new client, Les Wakefield, is like working for a creepy stalker. He seems to be everywhere she goes.

Until trouble walks around the corner and into her life again…

Dylan Hunter almost turns down the Wakefield Manor restoration job until Les Wakefield tells him Sophia is the interior designer hired to oversee furnishing the old plantation house. Sophia has been the ghost in his life since the day she left him, haunting his heart with her memory every day and every night.

Stirring up more than just the spirits of the dead…

Sophia and Dylan fight with each other until a much bigger threat puts both their lives in danger. Discovering that generations of Wakefields have restored the plantation only to disappear months after moving in to the manor house stirs up spirits that would rather remain undisturbed.

Can love survive the long nights at Wakefield Manor with the unmistakable scent of gardenias hanging so heavily in the air?

Snippet:

The dirt track wound through a stand of centuries-old oak trees hung with draping wisps of gray-blue-green Spanish moss. Like dark sentinels with drawn swords, the trees arched their limbs over the newlyweds as they drove deeper and deeper into the heart of the plantation.

On a humid, south Louisiana evening, the moisture-heavy air rushed through the open windows and expanded in the interior of the car. A trail of sweat rolled down Celia Wakefield’s backbone. She shivered as the first glimpse of the house came into view, and the meal she’d consumed miles up the road rumbled in the lower regions of her stomach. Despite the heat, chill bumps prickled on her forearms. An inexplicable reaction, really.

She glanced at her husband Les out of the corner of her eye and cringed. An intense tightness defined his jaw line, which meant he was in one of his dark moods.

His fingers curled around the steering wheel. “There’s no telling what condition the main house will be in when we get there.”

He had warned her of its disrepair repeatedly since the day he first told her that he’d inherited the old Wakefield Plantation. It was as if he was apologizing in advance for the state of their first home. She had, of course, wanted something newer, but beggars couldn’t be choosers. She was lucky Les Wakefield had found her appealing enough to overlook her past.

Her eyes widened at the fine specimen of male physique he had been hiding beneath his uniform shirt. The man was ripped and lean. His broad shoulders narrowed to slim hips. His jeans didn’t hang loose on him, as was the style among younger men. The taut fabric accentuated his manhood without reservation. The man was fine. Heat rushed up her neck when she realized she’d been ogling him.

“I can see by the look on your face—”

“I shouldn’t have looked.” She averted her willful eyes. They seemed to want to stray toward his southern parts without her consent.

“I shouldn’t have left it out.”

Left what out? It looks covered up to me.

She winced and wanted to slap herself out of her hormone-induced stupor. He meant the binder. His voice was deep and husky with the sound of morning rumbling through its timbre.

He stepped around her and closed the binder with a snap.

Loving the Book Presents: Memory Catcher by Denise Moncrief; #BookBlitz & #Giveaway

Denise is a Southern girl. She has lived in Louisiana all her life, and yes, she has a drawl. She has a wonderful husband and two incredible children, who not only endure her writing moods, but also
encourage her to indulge her writing passion. Besides writing romantic suspense, she enjoys traveling, reading, and scrapbooking.

Accounting is a skill she learned to earn a little money to support her writing habit. She wrote he first story when she was a teen, seventeen handwritten pages on school-ruled paper and an obvious

When someone touches Naomi Fuller, she catches visions of
dark memories that fill the other person’s soul with regret, fear, or shame. Living with other people’s guilt leaves little room in her psyche for her own history.
She recalls seemingly unconnected events, but did those horrible incidents happen yesterday, last week, or six years ago?
Naomi believes someone is messing with her mind, so she turns to Sidney Ashe for help untangling her distorted timeline, but the more she leans on him, the more she questions his motives. Can she distance herself from Ashe when her heart is hopelessly falling for him?
As Naomi struggles to understand how her emerging memories mesh with the guilty memories of everyone around her and things become clearer, she fears there is a killer in Clallam County who would do anything to stop her from remembering.

An uncomfortable silence ensued. Abigail shifted, inching her ample frame a little bit farther into the house. “I thought maybe something was going on up here. This place has problems.”
“I'm all right.” Naomi’s sharp tone should have conveyed her desire to end the conversation, but when Abigail didn’t budge, Naomi stepped forward and wrapped her hand around the doorknob.
A sneer appeared on the woman’s face as she reached out and grabbed Naomi’s forearm. She jerked at the sudden contact, a jolt of hyper-consciousness zipping through her psyche. A vision of a young woman flashed across Naomi’s mind. Shoving. Resistance. Feet dragging on torn carpet. Tears in the girl’s eyes. Naomi’s stomach muscles tightened, and she held her breath until the unwanted image
dissolved.
Abigail scrutinized her as if she knew what went on in Naomi’s mind, and she wanted to kick herself for her carelessness. She shouldn’t let anyone touch her, but Abigail had grabbed her arm before she could stop her.
She pushed the woman’s hand off even though the damage was already done. Naomi had to nudge Abigail out the door before the inevitable aftereffects of seeing into someone else’s mind hit her. The confusion. The depression. The lethargy. Whether she passed out this time or not, the experience would consume her, as it always did.

Attracted to a man haunted by secrets of his own...

Grayson of the Hill County Sheriff’s Department dive into a tangled web of jealousy, deceit, and revenge as they attempt to solve both crimes, Jared’s death and the mysterious death years ago of Victoria Hamilton. Grayson’s past keeps interfering with his present, causing turmoil in both his professional life and his personal life. Can their love survive revealing the truth—from both the past and present—surrounding the tragedies at Victoria House?

Snippet:
At regular intervals, dim lights were set into recesses in the wall, so that the tunnel was never totally dark. Of course, Hamilton could afford to light his house and his grounds. Hamilton ruled the county, financially, socially, and criminally.
The dim corridor seemed to go on forever until the man came to another door just like the one he had entered. This entrance was unlocked as well. Either Hamilton and his men were incredibly lax with their security or something else was happening at Victoria House that night.
He stepped back from the open door. Perhaps, his timing was off. Perhaps, another night would be better. Maybe someone else would do what he intended to do and all he would have to do is sit back and laugh. No, no. This was his justice. His wrongs to right. He couldn’t let anyone else do what he needed to do, even if someone else’s agenda played out in Victoria House that night as well.
He moved past the door into the dim interior of what he presumed was the basement. Above him, the house stood quiet. One swift glance around the large space told him all he needed to know. The room was used for various illegal entertainments. Gambling and drinking. A speakeasy. Across the way sat a long bar with a mirrored wall behind it. An assortment of shiny glass bottles lined a shelf against the glass. He’d heard there was a club on the peninsula, and if he had thought about it long enough, he would have assumed Hamilton had control of it.
Against his better judgment, he proceeded toward the stairs in the far corner of the room. The wood treads creaked as he ascended toward the first floor of the house. For a second—just a slim moment—he studied the fine woodwork of the stair banister. Hamilton had chosen only the best for his castle, even in his basement.

My Thoughts:

As things unfold the author will give the reader some background information but it fits seamlessly within the scene – you will not feel lost.  It’s like reading a movie scene.  There’s a scene where Gray and Tori are working the same job but the circumstances of the scene will have you thinking that there may be other forces involved here – is this something you believe in?  It didn’t take me long to think that this would be a great Lifetime movie or even a series – I would be a fan.

Just like a movie would have you questioning what you see, this author has you questioning what you read.  I’m one of those people that are lousy at figuring out mysteries, which for me is a good thing because the story hooked me in until I got to the very end.  If you’re a fan of CSI then you will love this read.  It’s not just a simple mystery – murder and the paranormal also have a role in this second book of the Haunted Hearts Series.

I could go on and on about this book but this is a read you need to get lost in and experience it for yourself.  It’s a movie that plays out in your mind.  One difference between reading this book and watching it on TV – no commercials.  This is also a series that doesn’t need to be read in order (at least so far).  And that’s good for you if you haven’t read Laurel Heights yet.  With 2014 almost being over it brings the reader that much closer to the release of book three which is titled Ashley Ridge.
