She was sin on two legs, and he wanted to drown in her wickedness.

The moment Damon Barese lays his gaze on Zaylah Wence, he knew he’d move heaven and hell to have her. A beautiful siren singing in a sleezy jazz club owned by one of his enemies. She’s given to him as a peace offering, but the more time he spends with her, the more he wants to unravel all her secrets.

A hint of cruelty lay in his gaze.

Zaylah was trapped, a prisoner in a gilded cage as she sang every night for a man who holds her sister captive. She’s given to Damon, to learn his secrets, but if she crosses the mafia king no one would ever find her body. She walks a tightrope between the man she’s becoming enamored with and the man who controls her.

Could there ever be a happy ever after for the mafia king and his siren?

About the Author:

I began reading my mom’s Harlequin Presents in the fifth grade, and from the first story I knew I wanted to write romance novels. Love is the most powerful emtion we can experience, and I adore happy ever afters. I write about the very ordinary woman thrust into an extraordinary circumstance, so my heroines will probably never be lawyers, doctors or corporate highrollers.  I try to write characters who aren't cookie cutters and push myself to write complicated situations that I have no idea how to resolve, forcing me to think outside the box. I strive to write complex characters  full of flaws, heroes and heroines who find redemption through love.

Stoking the Fire

by Megan Slayer

GENRE: Contemporary, LGBTQ, Erotic,
Paranormal Romance

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Blurb:
Andrew ‘Duff’ Wagner goes straight to the gods to get his love match made. He relies on Men Wanted, the matchmaking service run by Apollo, Artemis, and Eros to find his perfect match. He’s in love with a certain lawyer, but there can’t be enough magic in the cosmos to get them together, right?
Christian Foley knows exactly who he wants as his match, but he works with Men Wanted to find the perfect partner. He’s got a thing for Duff Wagner and won’t rest until he gets a date. Christian and Duff might have a chance if only Duff’s ex would stop butting in. Read an Excerpt:
“You look happy.” Mary, his secretary, arranged the files on her desk, then rolled away from her computer. “Hot date?”
“Actually, yes. I’m heading to the baseball game.”
“You?” She folded her hands on her lap. “You aren’t into sports.”
“I love baseball.” He normally kept his private life to himself, so he didn’t discuss that he’d gone to the game the night before.
“Since when?”
“Since I went to my first game when I was six. My dad took me and it was bat day. I still have the bat, too. I fell in love with the sport, and I’m a devoted Cincy fan. Good or bad, I’m a fan.” He checked the stack of his messages. “I’m out. I need an evening with no law and lots of relaxation.”
“Why do I have the feeling you get emotionally involved in your sports? Are you going to see the Grinders game?” she asked.
“I do get invested.” The tips of his ears burned. “But I’m finally going on a date, so there’s that.”
“You are?” She applauded. “Good. I hope it works out and leads to something great.”
“Me, too.” He winked. “See you in the morning.” He strolled out of the main office to the parking lot. The firm wasn’t big and was rarely full. That’s what he loved about Mooresville―it wasn’t a big city. Everyone knew everyone else. Within hours of him going out, everyone would know he’d chosen Duff. Good. He wanted them to know. He wanted to shout to the whole world he’d picked this man.
He unlocked his car and slid behind the wheel. He should go home and change before attending the game, but he didn’t have time. He drove across town to the park. The Grinders weren’t a major league team, but they were popular in Mooresville. Their ballfield was part of the city park, meaning there was a lot of parking and seating. He wanted to be visible, so he parked under one of the lights and waited for Duff. A few people were already there, and the teams were on the manicured turf, stretching.
“You made it.” Duff strolled along the sidewalk. “I thought you’d change your mind.”
“Me? Nah.” Not a chance he’d forget to be here for this. “You’re here.”
“Did you think I’d leave you without a word?”
“What do you want me to do? Stall her?” Lucas crossed his ankles and folded his arms again. “What do you think?”
He stared at Lucas. He’d known Lucas Cole for ten years and worked beside him for six of them. He was a sweet man, sexy, too, and the kind of guy he wanted to settle down with—the man he trusted. He’d been attracted to him since the first day they met. The idea of mixing work and play bothered him, but if anyone could help him out, it was Lucas. Besides, it’d give him a reason to see Lucas without thetrappings of the job. He’d always liked Lucas and wanted to take things to the next step—trying to figure out if they could be together. Now, he had the chance and he refused to squander it.
“Well? She’s in the elevator.” Lucas unfolded himself and stood. “What do you want me to do?”
“Marry me.” If he had to be a reluctant groom, then he wanted his best friend and confidante beside him.
“What?”
“It’ll put them off if I’m already engaged.” Hudson removed his prized diamond ring his father had given to him years before. He offered the jewelry to Lucas. “Marry me.” He dropped to one knee.
“Lucas?” Not quite the way he’d wanted to propose, but he’d do it over later.
“Me? They think you’re going to marry a woman.”
“I’m gay, and I’m not changing who I am for money.” He held up the ring. “Lucas?” If there was anyone in the world he loved outside of his family, it was Lucas.
“You should marry someone more suitable.” Lucas shook his head. “You need me as your assistant.” A lock of his blond hair slipped over his brow. He tightened his jaw and pressed his lips together. He could’ve been a model instead of an assistant, and he’d be the best one out there because he embodied sexy boy-next-door. He might be younger than Hudson, but Hudson didn’t care. He’d fallen for Lucas a long time ago.
Exclusive Excerpt:
I start to graze my hands over his arms, tracing his tattoo of a rose within a cracked heart with my fingers. My need for him is screaming over my rational side, which tells me to slow it down. But I want every part of his body over and over again, and if I don’t get it, I might just explode. I have to let Cole know there is nothing more I crave right now than our bodies intertwined together as we discover what can make us moan and the places that will cause us to scream.
“Did I ever tell you how sexy you are, Mr. Stevens?” I whisper into Cole’s ear.
Either Cole is stunned by my forwardness or planning a way to get me on my back like he promised before, his stroking hands freeze on my waist. His comforting gaze transforms into a hunger that needs to be fed. I watch as a seductive smirk appears on his face. In a husky voice, he warns, “I think I already told you what I’d do to you if you called me that again?”
“Hmm… I think I might remember that. Maybe I’m just waiting for you to follow through.” I hold his gaze and plant a soft kiss on his lips.
He tilts his head and cocks his eyebrow, suggesting that he is going to take my challenge. Sweeping my legs out from under me, Cole floats me over to the oversized lounge chair and gently places me down on my back. He slowly crawls up and kisses each part of me until he reaches my lips.
While he teases every inch of my body, my hands are weaving through his hair, feeling the short silky strands beneath my fingers. Every time his lips touch my skin, I tug at his hair and a moan would rise in his throat.
I pull his mouth to mine and savor the taste of him. My hands leave his hair and run down the lines of his carved chest, tracing around his nipples. Feeling the hairs rise from his skin, I travel further south over the ridges of his stomach muscles and then slowly slide my hands under the waistband of his shorts. I let them teeter there and tease him to arousal.
“God, Cam, you’re gonna kill me.” He runs his tongue down my neck and over the exposed part of my stomach, cupping his hand over my core. He murmurs in between contact. “I. Need. This. Right. Now.”
With a sigh, I beg, “Please, Cole … take it … take me.”
Teaser:
One of the things I love about Grace is that she is the heaviest sleeper I know. So heavy, in fact, she doesn’t hear me dragging a thrashing body through the front door
at two in the morning. For the first time in my life, I consider it lucky that we live on the outskirts of the north side. If we didn’t, I would never have been able to get it this far without attracting attention. A loud, confused sound starts to come from the net, so I kick it firmly.
“Shut up,” I hiss, looking around nervously. I’m not worried about Grace rousing, but I don’t want the neighbors waking up and noticing my noisy cargo.  I kick twice more, as hard as I can. Silence, finally. With a sigh, I wipe my arm across my forehead, getting rid of the sweat beading there. I sink down on the couch, staring at the large lump inside the net on my living room floor unblinkingly. Little red flowers are blooming all over the heavy white plastic, and they grow quickly. It’s blood, I realize with a sick feeling. It’s seeping through from the inside and leaking onto the clean white carpet of our house.
It can’t be real. It just can’t be.
I see Almond cut across the room and sniff at the lump with caution. With one movement, I scoop him up and press him to my chest in horror. For the first time, I realize the danger of what I've just done. I’ve invited a monster into my house.
I’ve made a horrible, horrible mistake.
It takes Luna ten minutes to get here five minutes faster than usual but it feels like
hours. She lets herself in the back door quietly, but I rush into the kitchen to meet her.
“Where’s Grace?” she asks with urgency, dropping her medical bag on the kitchen
table.
“What? No, I … this isn’t about Grace,” I stutter. I open my mouth once, then again, but it’s no use. Nothing is coming out, so I turn on my heel and tiptoe into the living room. Luna wordlessly follows, eyeing the netted form. I kneel next to it, holding my breath. With shaking hands, I slide the knife into the plastic and pull it upwards slowly. I know what it’s going to reveal when I pull the plastic away, but it still makes my breath leave my lungs in an audible whoosh. I can’t seem to inhale again once it’s gone. I hear Luna do the same next to me.
“Is it a…?” She leaves her sentence unfinished, and I nod. The small slit I cut in the plastic shows a thick arm under a rolled-up shirt, far too thin for our recently nasty winter. At the very end of the slit, I glimpse a swollen throat and a jaw covered in a dark shadow of hair. A chill runs down my spine and my stomach turns.
“Is he alive?” Luna asks, her voice small.
“I … I think so.” I stare at the floor guiltily. “I kicked him pretty hard to shut him up.” She scoots closer and with trembling fingers folds back the plastic to see his side, where most of the blood is coming from.
“Cut the rest of it off him,” she tells me quietly. I stare at her in shock.
“But, he––” She cuts me off with a look.
“He isn’t dead yet, but he will be if I don’t stop the blood loss.”
I swallow hard, and comply.
Blurb:
Mark Olson isn’t just known for owning his three large care dealerships. He’s also known as a player, at least since his divorce. For a while, he believes he is satisfied as a member of Advantage Insurance Company’s board of directors and bedding a different woman every weekend. That is until someone decided to call his bluff.
Suzannah McCormick is the sweet girl working hard as the executive assistant to Advantage’s CEO. But underneath her saccharine southern charm is a vixen-in-waiting. She’s never been with a man that tapped into that side of her, but she set her sights on Mark Olson with high hopes.
Mark doesn’t realize his single status and his heart are in jeopardy.
Excerpt:
Since his divorce, he’d convinced himself that remaining single was what he wanted. It made things less complicated for his two pre-teen daughters. Shit! It made things less complicated for himself. But that lifestyle could also be quite lonely.
That’s where Suzie came in and complicated the hell out of his life. She was the executive assistant to the CEO of Advantage Insurance Company, Michael Herron, and well… Mark was a member of Advantage’s board of directors, had been for several years. He loved his position on the board. Aside from the small amount of prestige it carried, he’d made great friends with the other members, particularly the two younger board members—John Dorsey and Greg Snow. A relationship with Suzie could compromise his position on the board and with the members, but truth be told, he also loved his most recent position between her legs.
If only the situation was different.
A familiar giggle wafted in from the direction of the dance floor. The delicate sound stirred his cock to life. It stiffened against his black trousers instantly.  After several weeks of clandestine meetings involving dirty talk and hard fucks, he’d know that giggle anywhere. He’d heard it many times afterwards when they lay tangled in each other’s limbs. Turning his head in the direction of the dance floor, anger heated his face and his hands clenched into fists on the bar top at the sight he witnessed.
Sandwiched between two guys that he’d now refer to as dickheads, danced the woman that wreaked havoc on his single life status.  Her little black dress clung to her trim frame, emphasizing her small, but very perky breasts and showing off her figure that could easily grace the cover of any fashion magazine. Her legs stretched for miles and her creamy white skin contrasted nicely against the jet black of her dress. Flinging her silky blonde hair over her shoulder and down her back, her pink Pursecase carrying her iPhone dangled from her wrist as her hips gyrated against her two dance partners. The taller man dancing behind her slipped his hand over her hip and rested it over her low belly as he rubbed what Mark was sure to be a rock hard erection against Suzie’s ass.
What the fuck is she doing?
First, she never came to the Beach Club. Never. In all his regular visits to this club over the last couple of years, he had yet to see her in here once. Not once!  Second, she was practically dry-humping two guys in the middle of the dance floor. That wasn’t her typical style.
Suzie was one of those beautiful women that appeared to have the girl-next-door innocence. She didn’t dress too provocatively.
She was sexy, but in that way that was just natural. Her bubbly Southern charm won over all the men on the board of directors and Mark speculated it would win over anyone. He flirted with her, teasing her on board days to get a rise out of her. There’d always been a twinkle of mischief in her eyes when he flirted with her that would leave him questioning whether he knew her at all.
At last quarter’s board meeting, she left him dumbfounded when she responded to his flirtation with a proposition. After mulling it over for a bit, which actually had turned out to be a couple weeks, he called her bluff. He asked her over to his place for cocktails and she showed up. What he learned was that there was a lot more to Suzannah McCormick than met the eye. The rest was history.
Throwing back the last remnants of his whiskey, he stood from his stool, tossed some cash on the bar, and turned toward the dance floor. He wrestled with what his next move should be.
My Thoughts:
Mark Olson is a man who has personal decisions he needs to make.  Suzannah McCormick has known Mark for a while.  Almost from the beginning you can see the sexual chemistry between these two characters.  There is no way that you won’t be able to tell how sexually into each other these two are.  The author even has the time to add in a real jerk of a character – one with no redeeming qualities.
This is a story that takes no shortcuts and is one that gets right to the point.  I didn’t get any indication, at any time, that you needed to have read Board Stiff or Board Approved in order to enjoy Mark and Suzannah’s story.  An indication about whether or not to read the first two books is if you want to know more about the other couples. But it’s my hope that if you loved this story, you will want to take the time to catch up.  My only disappointment was that it was a short read that I wasn’t ready for it to end.  But if the series continues maybe our couple(s) will make another appearance.
About the Author:
I am a born and raised small town  Ohio girl, who moved to the Sunshine State after graduating from college. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in English. What college major could possibly be better than one that requires you to read novels and write about them!  After spending a year traveling, I attended law school and use that knowledge wisely.
In the journey of life, became a wife and a mother of three children. So, life is always an adventure.
I love to read and write... obviously! I’m a huge sports fan, especially college football and the Ohio State Buckeyes!  Go Steelers!  Go Rays! Go Lightning! I LOVE to travel... LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to travel. And I love sharing my love to travel with my children. Did I say I love to travel? I love to drink coffee in the morning and tea at night! I love a good glass of wine, especially if it comes from a bottle made by the FOOLS wine club… yep, I’m a founding member of that crazy group!  ☺  I love hanging out with my family and my friends!  Music makes me happy. I’m a mix between country girl and city chic. But I love nothing more than putting on my jean shorts, tank top, cowboy boots and hat and watching Tim McGraw or Eric Church belt it out!  I’m a sucker for a cowboy hat!
