Before she could make another foolish mistake, Aeley rushed from the room. The night was nothing like she had planned and not what she needed.

"Ae!"

Aeley did not stop. The sound of heavy boots pounded the stone floor behind her.

The steps slowed as Mayr caught up. "Seriously, that's it?" he asked. "That's how you thought you'd get out of that?"

"I have something to do."

Mayr snorted. "Right, just as much as I believe it, I'm sure." He poked her hand. "Just as much as I know this thing isn't nothing. You went almost white when you read it. What's it say?"

"It says you need to mind your own."

"Aren't you just the joy of the Four Goddesses?"

"Mayr—"

"No. Unless you're going to tell me what this is, you don't get to use my first name. It's Head Guard if you're going to just lie to me."

Aeley stopped in the middle of the corridor and sighed.

"I'm not giving this up so you can stop with the sighing and the huffing, and don't even begin stamping your foot." Wrapping one hand around her elbow, Mayr's tender grip helped keep her steady. "I've known you since we were kids. Don't make me steal that thing. I know something's wrong and you're being stubborn. Again."

She considered her options. It was better if no one else knew what was happening. To have received the summons in front of her guests was humiliating enough. She did not have to share the details.

But Mayr was not a guest. He already knew the truth of what had happened in Oly Valley. He had been there by her side, making sure she returned home alive. What harm could there be in telling him the fight was not yet over?

I owe him that much. And he didn't say a word in front of anyone. He could've, but he didn't. He deserves to know. "Come on." Aeley pulled him through the halls to her study and pushed him into the room before slamming the door. On the way to her desk, she tossed the scroll at him.

"What? You're going to make me read it?"

"Always something," Aeley grumbled and spun around. "They want me to go there, to Council, to watch him receive his ultimate judgment. They'd said I wouldn't."

Mayr leaned against the wall. "No, they said you possibly wouldn't. You slipped in that extra—"

"Mayr!"

He threw up his hands. "Fine. If it bothers you that much, don't go."

"I can't," Aeley said resignedly. "The Councilmen are expecting me to be there to help them put Allon away permanently. He's a danger to everyone. His men caused so much damage. I hear some of the children they captured are still terrified. That isn't how I want things to be. We can't disappoint them and let him off easily."

"So then go."

"I don't want to."

"Ae, choose one." His tone softened as he approached her. "I'll back you on any decision, but you're going to have to choose one. Either you're the perfect Tract Steward or you hide. Of course, if you hide, Allon wins, and then what good is your superiority?"

Part of her wanted to throw the decanter at his head. Just when she thought he was being sweet, he hit her with the blunt truth.

"Don't say it. You hate me."

"You have no idea," Aeley muttered.

Sizzling PR Presents: Temptation by Kelsey Karson; #ReleaseBlitz, #Excerpt & #Review

Temptation by Kelsey Karson

Genre: Stepbrother romance

Release Date: March 15, 2016

Rating:  4.5 Stars

Disclosure of Material Connection:  I received this book for review from Sizzling PR and from the author. I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am posting this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.”

Temptation-KKFate has twisted the knife in Trish Anthony’s back one too many times. The man who has haunted her dreams and heated her fantasies has strolled into her life for a second time; only this time, he’s become her stepbrother. Even if he felt anything for her, he is now off limits, but this doesn’t stop her from fantasizing about him, or from comparing every man she meets to him.
Logan Carmichael has kept focused on his company and denied himself the one woman who could complete his life—Trish. He tries to fill the void with other women that remind him of her and when this doesn’t work, he decides to take action. No longer is the work he once loved enough to give him happiness.
When the past rears its ugly head, bringing with it devastating news of murder, betrayal, and adultery, can Trish hold on to what’s important?

My Thoughts:

Trish Anthony gets a surprise as it comes through the door.  Logan Carmichael sees someone he’s not expecting to.  It’s a story where sometimes life can put a twist of fate in front of us.  But it’s what you do when confronted with temptation that will grab your attention.

Logan has an agenda and it will be interesting to see if he’s able to accomplish everything he wanted to.  Trish is stubborn and it will be interesting to see if she changes her stubborn ways.  Some may not be comfortable with the theme of stepbrother but remember that these are two consenting adults.  Their parents didn’t marry when they were children and the parents didn’t adopt them.  So if you think about it like that then there should be nothing to make you feel uncomfortable.

The author doesn’t leave the story at that.  Some questionable things come up and they need answers.  It was hard to believe the amount of story that was within so few pages.  You can get it read in just one day.  Even if you have things that need your attention so that you need to put the book down for a while, you’ll still have plenty of time to get this read within your day.  It will be interesting to see what she has in store for her readers next.  You will not be disappointed if you take time out of your day to read this book.

Still in love

Excerpt:

He tugged off her shirt before he kissed along her shoulder, working closer to her throat, and slipped a hand beneath the thin material of her bra. The brush of his fingers over her nipple had her arching toward him. “Oh Logan…”
The front door opened just then and her father stepped through, catching them in the middle of things and shattering the mood. Jumping off Logan, she grabbed her discarded shirt. Shit!
“What the hell is going on?” Her father stalked into the house, his eyes wide with anger. “Who the hell are you?”
“Logan? What’s going on?” The woman that Trish hadn’t noticed at first followed closely behind her father.
“That’s your son?” Her father took a side glance at his new bride before quickly looking back at them.
“Yes, Mr. Anthony. I’m Logan Carmichael.” He didn’t offer his hand, but he did stand up, placing himself between her and her father.
“What the hell do you have your hands on my daughter for? She’s your stepsister!” Anger had his words echoing off the walls.
“David…I’m sure there’s a logical reason.” Nancy laid her hand on his arm. “Right, Logan?”
“Oh sure, Mom.”
“What could that be? She tripped and landed on you with her shirt off?”
“That’s enough, Dad.” Suddenly, everything that had been building up within her was ready to be let loose. “Logan and I dated years ago and things just happened.”
“Just happened! He’s now your stepbrother. Things like that can’t just happen.”
“Like how you killed Mom?” The words were out of her mouth before she had a moment to think things through.

SEALed in Texas by Marissa Dobson

Genre: Military Contemporary Romance

Release Date: January 26, 2016

A SEALed for You/Hot SEALs crossover novella for Cat Johnson's Hot SEALs Kindle World

MD-SEALedinTexas-KWAfter sustaining injuries in the line of duty, Trever Alexander was forced to leave his SEAL team and all he worked for. In the midst of considering a job offer with GAPS, he was thrown into an assignment, one that brought him face to face with the woman he’d left behind.

One day Allyson Mason is living a normal, quiet life, and the next she is on the run. She doesn’t know who or what she’s running from. All she knows is that if she wants to stay alive she has to keep moving. She calls the only person she knows that might be able to help.

Chased by both physical and mental horrors, Trever and Allyson must put their emotions aside and work together.

Excerpt:

She turned around to face Trever. “I can’t leave Texas.”

“The fuck you can’t.” He now stood near the window, his back still to her. “You’re in danger here.”

“Don’t you think I realize that?” Her voice rose, which was better than giving in to the tears she wanted to shed. How had everything worked out like this? It was supposed to be a simple run to the store, then Anthony threw everything away and dragged her down with him.

“No, I don’t.” Trever turned back to look at her, his hand gesturing toward the door. “Otherwise you’d have been more careful. What the hell were you thinking, not even bothering to put the latch on the door? Are you hoping they catch you?”

“I…I…didn’t think…” she stammered, knowing she had messed up. If Trever had gotten in without her hearing a sound, anyone could have. Someone else could have been waiting for her when she exited the shower completely unaware.

“You’re right, you didn’t think, and you could have gotten yourself killed.”

He stood there unmoving as if she went through this type of shit all the time. She was out of her element and she knew it. It was why she’d called Brier.

“You’re the fucking SEAL, not me,” she spat. “It’s not like I run for my life every other day. I don’t know what the hell I’m doing!” She sank down onto the bed again and stared at the floor. “Maybe I shouldn’t have run. If I’d stayed I—”

“You’d be dead,” He finished for her. He came around the bed to stand in front of her. “A drug deal? Damn it, Allie, are you hooked on that shit?”

“What?” She looked at him, blinking as she tried to adjust to the sudden swing in the conversation.

“If you’re messed up on that shit I need to know. I can’t have you strung out. In order to get you out of here I need you with a clear head.”

“I thought you knew me better than that, Trever. I don’t do drugs.” Tired of her emotions pulling her in two different directions she forced herself to look away from him and let her gaze fall onto the duffel bag that held everything she now owned, which wasn’t much. “Just get out. I don’t need your help.”

“I think you do.”

“You left me…” The words were out before she could stop them. That simple statement was the root of the newest turmoil inside her and was the one reason she was rejecting his help, though she hadn’t meant to verbalize it. She didn’t want him to know that she still missed him.

“That’s not what this is about.”

Sizzling PR Presents: The Morrigan by Kennan Reid; #Excerpt, #Giveaway, & #Review

Title:  The Morrigan
Series:  Damaged Dieties, #1
Author:  Kennan Reid
Genre:  Adult Paranormal Romance
Release date:  March 16, 2015
Rating:  4 1/2 Stars

Disclosure of Material Connection:  I received this book for review from Sizzling PR and from the author. I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am posting this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.”

Blurb:

Morrie Brandon is the best horse trainer in Oklahoma, able to tame the wildest of beasts. She's also the Celtic goddess of War and Sex, The Morrigan, abandoning her supernatural life for a simpler, more human one. When Morrie is hired by a secretive Scottish family to capture a killer horse ravaging their Highlands manor, the past she has spent thousands of years running from calls her back. Will Morrie learn from her past mistakes and embrace the bold goddess she truly is, or is it too late?

My Thoughts:

Morrie Brandon is very envious of someone she knows.  She also knows how to kick some serious ass.  Kamden MacLeod is in need of her special gift.  He also seems to be a man of mystery.  And he’s the catalyst that sets this story in motion.  Then Kade enters the picture.  This is when the book will catch your attention and not let go until the last word is read.

Early on, this story had me wanting to sit somewhere where I could see horses roaming free.  Or, I can see getting on a plane and going to visit the highlands of Scotland.  It also had me wishing that I had a way with languages and this is when I realized that I was wishing for an audio of the book.  I would love to hear the Irish brogue and Scottish burr.  It’s one thing to see it and read it but it just would add a little to the experience if you could hear the characters speak with their accents.

It also has you thinking of some of the old fairy tales but this story is for the adult.  If you’re someone who likes the Mythology tales than you just might like this series.  This is a story that takes something that is from long ago and mixes it with today’s world.  It makes you wonder if some of what you read just may be possible.

This book does give you glimpses of Morrie’s interesting sisters.  It will be interesting to see how the rest of this series plays out.  Do you believe in destiny?  Can you see it coming true in this author’s tale?  How do the past and future fit in with what Morrie must do?  Even though this is the first book in the Damaged Dieties series, it can be read as a stand-alone.  The author’s ending  doesn’t leave her readers hanging and gives them the HEA.

Excerpt:
Did no one tell ye its rude tae give a man the best night of his life and then run away? a voice rumbled low and soft and managed to be as seductive as it was menacing.
Kade, Morrie sighed, hoping he couldnt hear the desire and relief laced in the sound.
She shouldnt be this excited over knowing he had raced home after her, but inside she nearly bounced like a giddy school girl.
And what did he say?  The best night of his lifeMorrie would have to admit, she felt the same.
She spun around on the stool to face him, leaning back when she found him standing too near.
He closed the small space, towering over her as he dipped his head to be eye level with her, forcing her back against the bar.
Ye will no leave like that again, he growled.
Morrie frowned at his order and opened her mouth to respond, but the words caught in the back of her throat.
Emotion flickered in his eyes, eyes that had grown black with what could have been either desire or fury, she wasnt sure.  But also something else
Morrie tilted her head to the side. Did I scare you?
Kade huffed with quick offense and straightened up, leaning back from her.  But his expression changed to one of wonder.
Like ye would no believe, he admitted on an exhaled breath as though surprised by his own revelation.
I told you I was here for business.  And that business was quickly becoming an obsession of hers.
A challenge that would determine just how far down the mortal hole she had fallen and whether she could find her true nature as a goddess once again.
This job tested her mettle because it should have been done by now.  She knew she could find the horse if she used her powers, but she needed to know she could find him on her own.
Though why she needed that, she couldnt say.
Kade turned his angry eyes on her. Do ye really expect tae succeed in this daft quest?
Morrie blinked, surprised by thewell, vehemence of his question and the turn of his questioning.
Of everyone in the home, he had seemed the least concerned about her reasons for being there.
If I didnt think I could catch him, I wouldnt stay.  And she had thought he wanted her to stay, but his question had elicited an unwanted responseone of insecurity. If you think Im wasting my time, then I should just leave.
For emphasis, she moved to slip off the stool, to really get away from him before he could see just how his doubts had touched her, but he stopped her by placing his hand on her hip.
Wait, thats no what I want.  Morrie paused but crossed her arms over her chest, pressing her lips together and waiting for him to continue.  Kade sighed. O course I think ye can catch him.  If anyone can, its you.  I doona doubt ye. He blinked, like a discovery had been made. Maybe yere supposed tae. In fact, Ill help ye do so.
Morrie gave Kade a sidelong glance.  He was up to something, she just wasnt sure what.
Youll come with me to the loch?
There it was again!
A passing cloud of fear across his face, but this time it was different.  It seemed spurned on by a different place.
But it came and went so quickly, Morrie soon questioned seeing it at all.
Ill follow ye anywhere, he answered her and there was a deep truth behind his statement. Just doona leave again like ye did this morn.
Morrie studied him like a suspicious package wrapped in a thin veil of desperate relief.  He seemed changed from the night beforethis emotion even different than the cloud that settled over him after the encounter with his mother.
Kade either wore many masks or his true nature was too complex to determine.
Like the horse, Kade was a challenge.
And Morrie was a sucker for challenges.
And his dark eyes turned her into a puddle and it seemed there was nothing she could do about it.  Her shoulders slumped before she muttered, Stop making me melt.
Kade frowned. What was that?
Nothing, Morrie stood up, placing her body much too close to Kades, but she couldnt appear weak.  She pulled out some money and slapped it down on the bar to well cover her tab.
Alright, you can help.  But what happened last night cannot happen again.  I am your brothers employee, I am your employee.  And for us to entangle ourselves…” Kades responding grin caused Morrie to roll her eyes and regret her word choice, but she continued on, hands on her hips, would only result in an unnecessary distraction.
She hoped to glower that smirk right off his beautiful lips.
At the fire in her eyes, Kade threw up is hands in surrender.
Aye, lass, as ye wish.  If ye insist on lying tae yerself and pretending, then I will no impose my will on ye.
Morries face burned with outrage, but that only resulted in Kade laughing at her, gazing down with desire in his smoldering eyes and adoration in his smile.
Stop that! she complained, pushing past him.
Stop what? he asked with feigned innocence.
She whirled around and nearly smacked her face into his chest.
Sighing, she stepped back and looked up at him.
Stop trying to provoke me.  Nothing will happen between us.
If ye say so.  As I said, I will no impose myself on ye, but if ye canna keep yer hands tae yerself, lass, I will no stop where they may roam.  And we both know theyre curious, lil things.
Volumes were spoken in his heated gaze.  Morrie flushed anew.
Her body grew rigid, her hands balled into fists at her sides.
My hands do notthere will be nogah! Morrie sputtered and turned her back to him, stomping out of the restaurant and towards what was going to surely be a violent battle of wills.
For the first time in her existence, Morrie didnt know if she would be the victor.
