My Thoughts:

It’s hard to believe that this series is coming to an end.  But where there’s an end something new begins.

Kane shows what happens when a player has to move on.  Jana is there to take a family legacy to the next level.  They have a past but will it survive into the future.  This is not just their story.  You will also get to catch up with some of the other players – it’s hockey season after all.

When it came time for game play, our authors must love the sport because the scene they create puts me right inside the venue.  Our voice actors also get us involved with what is going on.  It’s like we are a part of their group watching their world unfold.  They have two people that give them some really good comedic moments.  Mr. Arden was walking me through a scene that had me burst out laughing.  He also shows one of the strengths our authors have – getting us to laugh at other people’s expense.  But they also create characters that feel human, not larger than life and the voice actors also help with that.  I’m in awe of these people.  They take words and make a funny and believable story come to life.

But sometimes the funny parts get tough when you’re trying to get ready for work.  There came a time when it became difficult to contain my laughter so that I could get my morning smoothie done – I had Mr. Arden to thank for that.  Ms. Moran on the other hand shows that a woman can work in a position of power.  Just like any job there’s a learning curve – you just need faith in the people that are there to help you make the position your own.  They make a great team.

Besides catching up with some of the players of the Florida Fury, we also catch up on their families.  And we get to meet someone from Kane’s.  Even though we only see him for a short time here, you’ll be happy to know that he starts off a new series.  Sadly, that doesn’t come until the end of the year.  But also good in case you’ve missed any books in this series – plenty of time to get caught up.

My Thoughts:

What was nice about this book is that you don’t have to read any of the other books in the series to enjoy Cory and Ande’s story. But I hope if that’s true that you’ll want to get to know more of this hockey team. Having this story read to me was a real treat. I have Ms. Edwin in my library but sadly this was the first book I’ve actually listened to. This was the first book for Mr. Smolders. I have a couple of his books in my wish list but I think that list is going to grow. They both did a great job in bringing our characters to life. 

 

I’m a fan of the writing duo known as Piper Rayne. I always look forward to seeing what they’re going to come up with next. They always create something that you will never think that you’ve read something like it before. They also create great secondary characters. In this book, that was Trevor. But I’m glad he ended up in the background because I could see him overtaking what should be about Cory and Ande.  

 

You may not like hockey as a sport but this story is more than that. It’s a second chance romance with a little suspense. One of the secondary characters happens to be related to Ande and there’s suspense that swirls around her – especially when it involves Ande. Cory also has you guessing how their story is going to end. This is one book that I can see listening to more than once. And maybe have a series marathon – with summer getting closer what a great thing to do when it gets too hot to go outside.

Trouble.

One word that comes to mind when someone talks about me. I like to think of it as protection, watching out for the ones I love. But now I’m spending more time in the penalty box than on the ice and the team owner isn’t happy.

 

Finding myself across the room from the hot therapist I kissed on New Year’s Eve only makes me push my problems down further. I want couch time with her but not the kind she’s used to.

 

I decide to lie to her just to finish off my therapy so I can do what I really want—date her—even if she says she doesn’t date hockey players. Just when my therapy sessions are up and I’ve made some headway with Paisley, it’s my parents who throw another wrench in my plans. 

 

If I abide by my parent’s wishes to marry the one they’ve chosen, I’ll lose Paisley forever. But if I go against my parents, I’m failing my deceased best friend all over again.

My Thoughts:

Maksim is good at keeping secrets.  He’s also very cocky.  Paisley has a job that helps people but there are boundaries that must be observed.  In her personal life, she has some insecurities that keep popping up.

Our authors have created an interesting connection between our main characters.  Maksim is a self-assured Russian hockey player who knows what he wants.  Paisley knows what she wants but seems to have second guesses when actually following through.  That was until she found the right man.

The audiobook version will help the reader when it comes to hearing someone talk with a slight accent.  Mr. Paige was a great voice for Maksim but since I’ve heard a few books told by him, there were times when his natural voice came through.  I didn’t mind that though since it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the tale.  Ms. Sylvan is a new narrator for me.  It was a pleasure listening to her bring Paisley to life.  She also did a good job with a male voice.  This was a duo that I look forward to hearing again.

I loved the book and will certainly read it again but when I need to be hands-free, the audio version will be my choice.  But I think that with the ending, the audiobook wins out.  This is a series that I can see having a marathon read once it is complete.  In the meantime, I can enjoy each book as they come out.
