My Thoughts:

Darcy Connors is a very frustrated woman. Her stepfather is one nasty man who makes her life miserable. She shows the reader what some people will do for family. Joe Colton also shows what he’s willing to do for family. He’s finds himself conflicted over a certain woman. Each time they come together, their connection just gets hotter and hotter.

The sad moment for me was her visits with her younger brother. He’s being used as a pawn and paying the price. The story shows how children always seem to pay the price of a parent’s bad decision. One thing I loved was that our author doesn’t try to glamorize what our couple must do in order to survive. But our author is also very devious. She puts so many obstacles in Joe’s way. It was interesting to watch him squirm and how he gets around it just to find something else in his path.

You know an author has a winner when a reader gets personally involved with her characters – ones that make you angry, sympathetic, laugh, brings tears to your eyes and even the thought of yelling at them. The author has certainly done her job when you start to realize how alive these characters seem to be. This also includes those that are really nasty – you have no choice but to hate them and if you could you would act like a concerned citizen and call the police.

Even though this story is a part of a series, Ms. Gray gives her readers a very nice HEA. This was a book that I enjoyed from beginning to end – even while reading the tough parts. And I’m on pins and needles waiting for when Slide comes out. When this series is done, I can see myself having a read-a-thon and that’s never a bad thing.

Cole moved to his kitchen window and froze, hands gripping the edge of the bench hard enough to make the Formica groan. Piper stood in her yard, garden hose turned on, aiming the jet of water at herself.

Finally, she turned off the hose and dropped it to the ground. Gripping the front of her shirt she wrung out the excess water, giving him an enticing glimpse of her smooth, rounded belly. She was walking back to the front of her house when she turned toward him, eyes locking with his.

“Goddammit.” He needed to move away from the window, now, but he couldn’t tear his gaze from her. He stayed where he was, watching until she disappeared into her house.

My Thoughts:

Reid Parker owns his own business but doesn’t like competition. Two words to describe how I first felt about him – male chauvinist. And his language is very graphic when it comes to something he wants. Jane “Rusty” West is a woman with an attitude. If you’re one to see what hook the author uses to grab your attention it would be the attitude between our two main characters. She has had an experience from her past that appears to have clouded her thinking.

If you’re a reader that likes to set the mood as you read, cars are the backdrop but I don’t think you want to sit in a car dealership parking lot. If I could, I would ask to take a Mustang for a spin and not return it until I finished the book. Maybe you’re a tattoo kind of person; both our characters have them – just to give you a visual.

This book didn’t read as part of a series but you do want to know about the women that run West Restoration. I don’t think you’ll have any problem if you read this book first and then go back and read Crashed. Then you won’t have too long to wait when the third book, Wrecked, comes out in February. This is a book that I would read again and once all the books come out I probably will read the series from beginning to end.

About the Author:

Sherilee’s always had a big (some may say warped) imagination, and as a kid scared herself conjuring up horror stories full of ghosts and other terrifying creatures. As she got older the stories changed quite a bit, but they were always there. Still, she never dreamed of actually writing down any of those wonderful imaginary people or places. Not until many years later when her sister introduced her to the wondrous world of romance novels, and her very large book collection.

She’s pleased to say, she still has the big imagination… only now her characters are chasing their happily ever after.
