Can she forgive… The man who walked away?

Eight years ago, Marcos Ramirez met and married Nina Walker in the space of a day. The next morning, a family tragedy had him hightailing it back to his family’s Texas ranch. After annulling the marriage and redeploying with the marines, Marcos never thought he’d see Nina again. But now she’s moved to his hometown, with a secret that will change this rancher’s life forever…

Excerpt:

Nina opened the brand-new box of turmeric-ginger tea and took out a bag. She got a bag of yaupon tea for herself.

As she was pouring the hot water, Marcos said suddenly, “Nina, how’d you ever manage all this time on your own? I’m worn out after just one day. You’ve been doing it for years.”

She set the kitchen timer and took the seat across from him.

“I don’t know,” she said truthfully. “I guess I just had to, so I did.”

“Well, you’re doing a great job.”

She couldn’t resist a little dig. “There were times today when you didn’t seem to care much for my methods.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he deadpanned.

She gave him a shove on the shoulder, and he grinned.

“Okay,” he said. “It’s possible that…mistakes were made today. I may have overstepped my bounds a time or two.”

“That’s very big of you to say. To be fair, you may have had a point about the whining. Oh, and that whole I-can’t-hear-you-when-you-talk-like-that thing? Genius.”

“That was my mom’s line. Couldn’t believe it when I heard the words coming out of my mouth.”

“Your mom’s pretty smart.”

His face turned serious. “So are you. You’re a good mother. You set clear boundaries, and you enforce them, but you don’t micromanage. And it’s obvious that you enjoy being around him.”

“Thanks. You’re shaping up to be a pretty good father.”

He shrugged. “Well, given my track record so far, almost anything is an improvement.”

Nina remembered how he’d looked with Logan slung over his shoulders, smiling and strong and sure of himself.

“I mean it,” she said.

Her gaze dropped from his heavy-lidded eyes to his mouth, lingering a moment on the devastating curve of his bottom lip, then to his leanly muscled forearms resting on her dining table. His hands were folded together, just inches from hers. His fingers slowly unfurled. Nina’s heart skipped a beat.

About the Book:

Prince Nicolas is looking for a priceless royal heirloom. Trying to stay under the radar, he keeps that he’s a prince secret—especially from the cute antiques dealer he asks to help him. The longer it takes, the more time they get to spend together, though no matter how attracted he is to Lizzie, love is certainly not an option for the heir to the crown of Belfort.
Lizzie Cates fled her family’s new-found fame and fortune because life in the spotlight wasn’t for her. She loves her small town, where the most exciting thing on the schedule is the car parade for the Fourth of July. That’s just how she likes it, until Nicolas comes along. Lizzie finds herself falling for the caring man who craves the country and small-town life as much as she does.

Except Nicolas has a secret that will shatter both their dreams...

Excerpt:

[Nicolas, who's hiding his royal identity and posing as a diplomat on a mission, asks Lizzie to help him find a precious antique that was lost decades ago.]

“And…” She hesitated and a shadow crossed her features as if she considered a problem. “If we do find it, will you actually buy it? Not make trouble for the person who has it? I mean, I already asked if it was stolen and you said it wasn’t, but...”

“You don’t want to create any problems for other people. I understand.”

“I also have a selfish reason.” She looked him in the eye. “It took me years to build up this business. On my own. I don’t need anything damaging my reputation.”

“I understand. I can assure you I will buy it back. At any price.” Money was no issue. He wanted the bird of paradise back for different reasons. To resolve his grandfather’s breach of loyalty to his royal duty when he had given away the bird. Precious heirlooms passed down by previous generations should never leave the family. By returning the bird of paradise to the palace, Nicolas would set the record straight.

She smiled with relief. “Thank you, that is good to hear.” Then another frown drew her brows together. “I do have to admit one other thing. I’m on the organizing committee for the Fourth of July festival in Wood Creek. This is a very big thing here, with a parade, picnic, and other activities. I don’t know if I have all that much time to look for your bird of paradise.”

“In return for you looking for the bird box, I could help you with some of the organizing. I’ve done things like that before.” He spread his hands in an inviting gesture.

***

Really? Lizzie looked him over. He was some hotshot from a European country on a diplomatic mission to set straight something his grandfather had done wrong. And he wanted to help her organize the Fourth of July celebration in her town? He said he had done things like that before, but he probably meant he had given other people orders to do it for him. “We can’t afford to hire people to do everything for us. We do a lot ourselves. Which means painting and dressing a stage, etcetera. I…uh…don’t know if you have any experience with something like that?” Working with your hands.

“Not really, but how hard can it be?”

Lizzie bit back a smile. He had no lack of self-confidence. “Okay then.”

“You know what?” He checked his watch. “It must be about closing time for your shop. How about having coffee together? You can tell me more about this Fourth of July festival and what I can do to help.”

She hesitated. Her back was sore from her work at Mrs. Landers’ cottage and she really wanted a hot shower, an easy meal on the sofa, and some mindless TV to unwind before dropping into bed. But wasn’t this a great chance to get to know him better?

She glanced down at her clothes.

“It won’t be a big thing,” he assured her. “Just something at a place down the block. It seems like a nice street full of artisan shops.”

“Oh, yes, it’s great. All the shopkeepers are my friends.” She smiled at him. “Okay then. Let me close up the shop and I’m all set to go.”

“I’m the stranger here, so you’ll have to tell me where we can get really good coffee.”

Lizzie put her clipboard away, her mind racing. A moment ago she had mentioned her shopkeeper friends. They would be surprised to see her going for coffee with a handsome man. In a small town like Wood Creek, people kept an eye on their neighbors. Kindness, yes. Curiosity, also. And in some it was a bit stronger than in others. Did she really want to create talk? Then again, if he was going to help with Fourth of July, people were going to notice. Maybe it was better to get it over with right away.

She turned to him. “If you’re going to help out with the Fourth, I have to know what I can say about you. I’m not going to mention this…uh…diplomatic mission. Because it’s so vague, it will only provoke more questions.”

“Introduce me as Nicolas, a prospective buyer who’s lending you a hand with the festival in exchange for extra speedy service. Or something.” His eyes twinkled.

Lizzie had to draw a deep breath to get oxygen into her system. Her head seemed so light. “Okay.”

About the Book:

Marshall Dyson wants one thing and one thing only: to raze his grandfather’s island to the ground. Everything is ready to go––except for the freakin’ bunnies! Hundreds of the furry critters hopping about and multiplying before his eyes. And then there’s the American Bunny League, along with one distractingly beautiful veterinarian, taking him to court to save them...

Dr. Augusta “Gus” North can’t believe the grumpy–and annoyingly hot–builder she’s facing in court cares more about demo-ing some cabin than the lives of 200 bunnies. But when the judge orders Marshall to stay on the island and help her rehome the rabbits – the entire month – she knows they’re going to need to lay some ground rules.

Like, for example, absolutely no kissing. Might as well go ahead and get that in writing. Sure it’s on a napkin, but that still counts.

How hard could it be to keep their hands off each other amidst all the fighting? Surprisingly, harder than wrangling 200 bunnies...

Excerpt:

“Nothing to do with a certain blond vet who bested you in court?”

Marshall snorted. “I hate to break this to you buddy, but she bested you, not me.”

“You tell yourself whatever you need to.”

The humor in his brother’s voice was irritating. “Bite me.”

“Dude...face it. You have the hots for her.”

“I do not. I like agreeable women.”

Jeremy laughed. “You only think you like agreeable women.”

“I think I know what I like. I’ve been engaged three times to your zip, remember.”

“Exactly.” Jeremy laughed harder. “You’d make a lousy lawyer making my point for me like that.”

Marshall was not going to sit here and be lectured by his younger brother who wouldn’t know monogamy if it kicked him in the balls. “I’m hanging up now.”

“Come home, leave them be.”

“Is that your official legal advice?”

“Yes. Not that I think you’ll take it for a moment.”

Marshall stared at the floorboards. “It’s just a couple of days.”

Jeremy’s sigh was heavy in Marshall’s ear. “Be nice to her. It’s only a month and I don’t want to have to bail your ass out of jail because you’re being an obstructive dick.”

About the Book:

My life has revolved around the two things I've always loved: whiskey and rugby. Now the marriage clause in my Da's will has me putting both on the back burner if I want to save the Murphy's Pub empire and find a wife.

As the last brother to get married, I need a little help, and that's where my sister-in-law's American best friend, Leah, comes into the picture. She could use a little Irish luck after the deceitful things her ex did to her that brought her to Ireland. With her take-no-shite-attitude, she's just the type of girl to help me find a wife.

That is, if I can remember she’s the matchmaker and not the match.

Excerpt:

Now, here I was, with a new beginning and purpose.

The position with Sean might not be my dream job, but it gave me the chance to find something closer to it. To figure out what I was going to do next.

After picking up a sandwich from a nearby café, I continued to stroll the streets of Dublin, looking in storefronts and people-watching the businessmen who walked by.

I pulled out my phone and, like a glutton for punishment, looked through the dating app I’d loaded, where I’d posted Sean’s magazine cover photo as his profile picture.

A lot of random women and men were already sending messages and some very lewd photos. How the hell did they even know if this was the real Sean Murphy before they sent a picture of their goodies? Geez…

Okay, maybe dating sites weren’t the best bet for him, and I’d have to try something else.

Groaning in frustration, I decided to put the dating app to the back of my mind, like I’d been doing with everything else in my life, and open the word game app that I’d been playing.

Normally I just played random bots, but there was one name that made me smile as an opponent, even if I wouldn’t admit that to him.

Sean Murphy played the word whizbang for 76 points

What the hell? Was that even a real word?

I opened up the messenger on the same app and sent him a reply.

Leah: I feel like you’re just googling random words to see what will work.

His response was quick—and smart-ass.

Sean: Whizbang, according to Google, means a resounding success. Like I am at this game.

Leah: *Eye roll* Good thing you still have Google. How else would you score any points, since I know for a fact this game doesn’t take slang?

Sean: Find that out trying to use some American lingo? Like gotten? Why do people still use that anyway?

Leah: Did anyone ever tell you that you’re a pain in the ass?

Sean: Every day of my life.

I may have been snarky in our conversation, but I found myself smiling as I stared down at the screen.

It was easy to get lost when it came to talking to Sean.

So, lost I could forget that he was my best friend’s brother-in-law and my new boss who I was supposed to be finding a wife for. He had a future with rugby and the company.

We couldn’t be anything more than friends and in a business relationship.

No matter how much he made me smile.

Excerpt:

The woman stopped glaring at Marco to stare at the pilot. “What happened? Why didn’t you tell me you were hurt?”
“Same reason you’re pretending you don’t have blood dripping in your eyes. We’re both stubborn idiots. Now, go get yourself checked out. I’m going to inspect the damage to the cabin. I’ve got a call in to the maintenance crew.” He looked up at the darkening sky. “They probably won’t make it until sometime tomorrow.”
The observation earned the man a withering glare, which the woman then turned on Marco before stomping off in the direction of the ambulance.
“You’re not pulling my leg, are you? It really was her flying?” Marco winced when she stopped. She looked like she was about to turn around and stomp back to him but instead gave her head an irritated shake and continued to the ambulance.
Her co-pilot leaned in to him. “She has excellent hearing.”
Marco glanced to where she now sat in the back of the ambulance. “Despite what it sounds like, I’m not a sexist jerk. I just—”
“Yes, you are,” she yelled at him while waving off the paramedic.
“I think she just told them not to waste time numbing her cut before they stitch it. She’s like some kind of superhero. Oblivious to pain and able to save planes from crashing to the ground,” Marco said.
“I wouldn’t say that in her hearing, but in some ways, she is. She’s a former navy fighter pilot.”
“Really? Wow. That’s, ah…cool.” He went with the opposite of what he’d been going to say. Hot. The woman was hot.
“Trust me, pal. You don’t want to go there,” the co-pilot said.

“What? You think I’m interested…in her? No. I just met her, and she, ah…” He was about to say kicked him in the groin and maybe quip that he wasn’t a masochist, but his gaze had strayed to where she sat talking to the paramedic who was preparing to stitch her cut, acting like she wasn’t nervous. Her fingers clenched into fists said otherwise. And that small show of vulnerability intrigued him. He wondered what else she was hiding.

Excerpt:

“An ache has plagued me from the moment I sat in that damnably cramped carriage across from a temptress for two bloody long days.”

Cat’s breath stuttered to a halt. She swallowed, rubbing her lips together. Lord, how she wanted him, and here he was before her, locked away from the rest of the judgmental world. A vision of Esther Stanton stopped her from reaching for him. “I am sure there are others who would like to help ye with your ache,” she whispered.

Nathaniel lifted one of her curls, inhaling it as if he was starving and the curl was a delectable treat. He touched a finger to her forehead and traced a light line down her nose, touching her lips and chin before continuing down the naked skin of her low-cut neckline. Chill bumps speckled her entire body, her nipples peaking against the linen of her smock under her gown. “Damn,” he closed his eyes as if struggling. “All day I have met with old acquaintances and dry, pompous men. Listening to philosophy and political theories and business ventures.” He opened his eyes. “The whole time, I could not stop thinking of you, Cat Campbell.”

Her breath caught in her chest as she watched him. She drew in a shallow inhale. “Me?” He looked tortured. “I was searching for no other tonight, Cat.” Nathaniel dropped his hand, shaking his head. “Tell me to leave,” he said. “There are things that we have not discussed yet.” He glanced upward at the ceiling, a tightening of pain over his face. “And we must keep your reputation above reproof so that you can move in the duchess’s and the queen’s circles.”

“The king has already seen us together,” she whispered. Her voice sounded different, as if she didn’t have enough breath. She couldn’t stop her hand from reaching to rest on his strong arm. “And right now…we are just a man and a lass. Not English and Scot. Not Viscount and peasant.” His gaze slid from her eyes to her slightly parted lips and then up again to her eyes. The strength of the wall at Cat’s back was the only thing holding her up as her knees weakened. She breathed evenly despite the racing of her heart and the heating of her blood. He had an ache, but could it be as torturous as the one she’d been trying to ignore all night?

“If ye think of me and no others, and we are alone now in my room with the door locked, why must ye stay away from me?” Cat’s hand slid up to his shoulder, her fingers curling into the weave of his tailored jacket. She pulled herself up onto her toes to press her lips against his, stopping any paltry answer he might give. Parting to look at him, she let the desire coursing through her reflect in her gaze and pressed her softness against his hardness, marveling in the contrast. “Believe me when I say that I ache, too.” She let her gaze drop to his strong jaw. “From the blasted moment ye kissed me, incoherent with fever.” She looked back up to his eyes. “Ye damn Englishman.”

Her breath caught as Nathaniel’s powerful arms lifted her against him. One of his hands spanned her back, the other holding under her backside. “God, Cat,” he murmured against her lips. “I cannot get you out of my blood.”

“I am quite bloodthirsty,” she murmured back as he fitted her snuggly against him. She tried to lift her legs and remembered that she wore a full gown, the stays encircling her as if in iron. “And I have way too many clothes on.”
