SYNOPSIS:

With death lurking at every corner, love becomes more important than ever.

The fierce warriors of Black Isle are used to living with the threat of war hanging above their heads at all times. They work hard to survive and celebrate even harder.

Shifters of various types must band together to defeat their numerous enemies, yet they never forget that life and love is precious and to grab happiness wherever they can find it. After all, any given day could be their last.

Claimed by the King

When a young human woman is offered up as a human sacrifice to the mysterious inhabitants of the Black Isles, she assumes she’ll be a slave, and life as she knows it will be over. She’s half correct. Her life will change completely, but King Broc, who claims her as his mate, isn’t the brutish captor she expected him to be.

The Soldier and the Siren

The Merfolk are the Isles’ natural enemy; have been for generations. When General Teaq comes across a mermaid inside Black Isle territory, he knows he must capture her. But there’s something about the mysterious woman that gives him pause. Their respective peoples are at war, but hate is the last thing on their minds.

A Dragon’s Treasure

The Isles are on the brink of war, and newly appointed general, Rhea, knows she must summon her secret weapon. The dragon that slumbers underneath the castle is their only hope to defeat the vast numbers of enemy fighters headed to their shores. But dragons are fickle creatures. Will she be able to reason with him and convince him to support her cause?

The Warlock’s Conquest

Ever since Ferris’ sister was taken by the barbarians that live on the Black Isles, he’s been planning his revenge. Years later, he’s finally leading a troop of warriors to liberate her, only to discover that perhaps he’s been on the wrong side of this conflict all along.

My Thoughts:

I haven't listened to a book from this author in a while. Can't think of a better way to fix that then to listen to this collection. Each of the books are just over three hours a piece. This is good for you if you only have a few hours a day to get some listening pleasure in. If you like fantasy with a mixture of romance and suspense then this would be a good choice.

Mr. Turner may be listed as a narrator but here he becomes a storyteller. You could almost picture him sitting around with the young adults of the village and letting them know about the history of the Black Isle. He doesn't try to impersonate a female which I think was a good thing because this is not a story that you want to laugh at the man who is telling us a tale. And I would certainly look forward to listening to him again.

What's good about getting the collection as opposed to buying each book separately is that you can easily go from one book to the next. You will want to do that anyway since it's the best way to enjoy the series. Plus, the book that follows builds on the story before it. It's a great way to get lost in a world that doesn't exist but the author does a great job in getting you to believe that at one time maybe they did. It's one that I can see being listened to more than once.

Genres / Tropes: Adult, Contemporary, Husky Hero, Body Positive, Plus-sized Hero, Steamy, Romance
#NewRelease #RecipeforPassion #BigBoysDoItBetter #HuskyHero #BodyPositive #PlusSizeHero #ContemporaryRomance

SYNOPSIS:

A man who makes food like this… has got to be great in bed.

Sarah: I’ve landed the job of a lifetime: to write a profile about the Heartthrob Chef himself, Byron Ainsworth. Too bad he’s a slime ball in person. No, the real hero on the set of Decadent Desserts is Ethan, Byron’s deliciously cuddly sous-chef, and I’m making it my mission to spend my time at the studio mostly with him. Let’s call it background research.

As I enjoy more of Ethan’s company and my article begins to take shape, I realize two things: I need to tell Ethan how I feel about him before it’s too late. And something feels wrong about Byron. I just don’t know what it is yet.

Ethan: The moment Sarah walked onto the set, she didn’t just steal a piece of my heart, she took the whole thing. But she’s not here for me, she’s here to interview Byron. I might be the better chef behind closed doors, but he’s the star of the show, whereas I’m a nobody.

Still, Sarah’s presence infects me like a sickness. She leaves me obsessed and full of yearning, but I know she deserves so much better than me. Every minute spent with her sucks me deeper into delight and despair, and yet I continue to seek her out. Maybe, just maybe, I can use my talents in the kitchen to woo her? Because if I let her slip away, I know I’ll regret it forever.

Recipe for Passion is a steamy body-positive romance featuring an adorable teddy bear of a plus-sized hero and a strong-minded heroine who loves him exactly for who he is.

EXCERPT:

“What is it?” His voice is low, almost like a whisper, but with a rawness to it which I haven’t heard in him before.

“Some flour on your cheek, there,” I say, dabbing at his face with the corner of the towel.

He mimics what I’ve just done and wipes it off with the back of his hand. Then he seeks out my eyes with his again. “Gone?”

I’m lost for words. How close I am to the man I’ve obsessed about since our first meeting. And I’ve been trying so hard to keep things professional between us. This is my first solo assignment, after all. The first time Tom has even let me out of the office and into the field. What would he say if he found out I’m dangerously close to seducing the guy I’m supposed to be interviewing? Worse still, I’m actually meant to be interviewing his boss. Instead, here I am drooling over Ethan and spending additional time with him, because I can’t stomach the idea of going back and talking to Byron like I’m supposed to.

Objectively I’m failing at my job, but my heart is telling me that I’m on the right track. That this is where the real story is.

“Yeah, gone,” I whisper.

“Well, we’re nearly there,” he says, glancing down at my lips for a moment. We are. Nearly exactly where I want to be.

I wish he’d do more than just look. As if he heard that thought, he takes the towel from me and drapes it around my shoulders. His gesture melts my heart and warms my cheeks. If I’m not careful, I’ll lose myself in the moment. It would be so easy to follow my instincts and kiss him right now. But what if he’s not into it? Or worse still, what if he is, but for the wrong reasons?

I know how I feel; what I want.

If I’m going to do anything like that, I want to make it clear I’m not in this for a one night stand. My heart can’t afford to put itself in a vulnerable position like that. If I’m going to give up my credibility as a journalist, I’ll only do it for something meaningful. Something real. But I don’t have the courage to follow through on that impulse.

And so I take a deep breath and sit down in my seat again and peer out of the windshield. The clean glass facade of the Premier Inn gleams like a shining beacon up ahead in the first rays of sun trying to break through the clouds. He wasn’t wrong. We are almost there. Unfortunately.

“Before we call it a night, did you have any more questions for me?” he asks.

It’s an excuse; we both know it. After everything we discussed already while he was cooking for me back at the studio, I couldn’t possibly have missed anything. But I’m grateful for the opening.

“So many. And I wanted to thank you for helping with my car and the ride back. Why don’t you join me for dinner? My treat.” I don’t know why I say that. I’m not even hungry.

“I couldn’t possibly,” he says, while keeping his eyes fixated on my lips.

“No?” I breathe.

“It’ll be my treat.”

“We’ll see about that when the time comes,” I say.

He smiles and slowly raises his hand, bringing it closer to my face. I dare not stir; I don’t even dare to breathe until he touches me. His fingertips brush past my forehead and push some errant wet strands of hair behind my ear. Then, his eyes lock onto mine again, and I lose myself.

I can’t think. I can hardly breathe.

“May I?” he asks.

“Yes,” I whisper, though I don’t even know what he’s asking me. Does it matter?

Anything he wants. Right at this moment, it’s a yes from me. Anything.

“I don’t know if I’m on the right track here, but I like you, Sarah.”

Squeee! I can feel my eyes widen, and my heart speed up, as my cheeks warm and turn an even deeper shade of red. But I just can’t move or look away.

“And after the time we spent yesterday evening and earlier… I wonder if perhaps that’s something…”

“Yes,” I whisper again.

He smiles again and I could just cry. Happy tears, of course. Not that I actually am crying; that would be embarrassing.

“This is so unprofessional,” I blurt out.

He pulls away and leans back in his seat. “You’re right, it is.”

“No, Ethan!” I place my hand on his knee, and am shocked at how intensely my body reacts to such a simple gesture. My palm is hot and cold all at once. Still, I don’t want to let him go.

He turns to me again.

“I like you too. I just wasn’t sure—” I stammer.

“You’re here on assignment. I understand,” he says.

“But knowing that you feel the same, I don’t see why we can’t make an exception.”

“Just this once?” he asks.

The innocence in his eyes makes me smile again.

“Hopefully more than once,” I say.

SYNOPSIS:

Abandoned by her people, a young woman was being sent to her doom.
Kelly was going to be a prisoner; a slave. At least that’s what she thought as she waited for the mysterious giants that lived on the Black Isles to claim her. A human sacrifice, once every eight years. That’s what it took to keep mankind safe from these savages.
The human would ensure the survival of his bloodline. Whether he liked it or not.
Broc’s reign as King of the Black Isles had lasted seven years already. That was a long time to go without a queen and therefore, an heir. He knew what he had to do: to claim the human offering and make her his own.
When they met, it changed everything. A glimmer of hope, even of love, in unexpected places. But life on the Black Isles was far from simple. And there were powerful secrets, yet to be uncovered, that could change everything yet again.
Claimed by the King is the first in Lorelei Moone’s brand new fantasy romance series, Shifters of Black Isle. Shifters, magic, and relatable characters; set in a mysterious, distant land, where anything seems possible, and yet all its inhabitants hold dear could be destroyed in an instant. One-click now and find out what all the fuss is about!

My Thoughts:

This book has a little bit of everything.  There’s fantasy which may spark your imagination.  There’s a paranormal twist with the addition of shifters – although that part is a little understated.  You don’t really know at what point in time this takes place but I think historical fiction when listening.  Speaking of listening, Mr. Turner was a perfect choice for this book.

While listening to him, I thought of our main character Broc.  He made it easy to picture what our hero might look and sound like.  Broc seemed to be a man with plenty of patience.  I didn’t mind that we didn’t have a female voice for Kelly.  We still get to experience who she is and what she’s going through.

I was happily listening to Mr. Turner when I heard a nasty word – Epilogue.  A little surprised how quickly it came up.  It felt like a lot was missing but I'm going to assume that what is lost might be found in the next book.  If not, my mind will have to fill in any blanks but I’m hoping that won’t happen since I’m sure I won’t do any justice to the people of the Black Isle.

SYNOPSIS:

The enemy of my enemy is my friend?

Lucille Amboise has been serving as Enforcer to the Vampire Council for centuries; a role she’s always taken extremely seriously. When an investigation causes her to cross paths with a human tracker who is hunting the same criminal, she decides to join forces, at least on the surface, to increase her chances of bringing the rogue vampire to justice.
Two things she didn’t count on: The growing connection between the human and her, and the ever growing risk of losing either her life or her heart if he finds out about her true nature.
Valentino Conti’s family has lived on the fringes of human society for generations. He comes from a long line of hunters, not of animals, but of so-called Nightwalkers. His latest investigation takes him to London, where he’s surprised to find a mysterious woman on the trail of the same murderous monster he’s after.
They begin to work together, but he can’t contain his curiosity: Who is his new partner, and what secrets she does she hide?
All books, including this one, in the Vampires of London series are stand-alone and can be listened to out of order.

My Thoughts:

Mr. Edwards has been the perfect narrator for this series.  My respect for the way he brings a story to life just grows with every book I listen to.  He adds humanity into the author’s words which helps with the video that plays in my mind.  The only issue I had was with the speed of this latest book.

While listening, I had to go in and check to see what speed was selected because my ears had a hard time connecting with what was being said.  It seemed as if the standard speed was going by too quickly – as if our narrator was speedreading.  This was the first time that I had to turn it down so that I could concentrate on what the author created.

This may be Lucille’s story but if you have followed the series than you already know that we have met her before.  If you’ve not followed than I would start at the beginning so that you can understand the type of woman she is–even though she was a secondary character in the previous two books.  This latest goes more into what her job is about–she becomes the star.

I almost felt like I should be sitting by a fire in a wingback chair with a glass of mulled wine.  Sad part is that where I live its summertime but I just might do the chair and fire thing anyway.  I could get a fake fireplace and that way I would still get the feeling without the heat.  What was even sadder was that the time went by too quickly.

Our author has created a story with plenty of suspense, action and romance.  If you like a kick **s woman and a couple of men that bring out the mystery of the story than you’re going to enjoy this latest Vampires of London.  It may also make you curious as to what other type of books she has written.  My problem is that I’ve come to love listening to her audiobooks-but that’s not always a bad thing.

Excerpt:

Valentino stole a glance at Lucille as they left the pub together. What a peculiar young woman. Everything about her, from the way she carried herself to her choice of Scotch signaled that she was an old soul. The fact that she had joined him out here meant that apparently she was fearless as well.

Was she part of the same underground he belonged to? The online message boards, the discussion groups that met virtually to discuss any supernatural activity they had come across. It had been one of those anonymous reports of vampirism that had brought him to London in the first place. Was she active in those circles? Or was her presence here a coincidence?

Her catlike movements as she walked alongside him toward the feeding site suggested she was strong and well trained. She definitely knew how to fight.

He wouldn't be surprised if she had some hidden weapons somewhere underneath her long coat. He had some too, after all.

When they reached the bin he had inspected on his own earlier, he pulled out the bottle of Luminol again and sprayed the area where he knew the blood to be.

She leaned in closer and followed the direction of the spray pattern with her index finger.

"Interesting."

Valentino smiled. "As I said, the evidence is right here."

Lucille stood back and stared at the ground surrounding the area. "It wasn't much of a struggle, so perhaps the victim came here willingly."

Valentino raised an eyebrow. "How do you know this?"

Lucille pointed at a very faint muddy footprint which the winter rains had done their best to erase. "If two men had fought here, they would have knocked over some of these bags of rubbish. They would have left smudged prints and scuff marks from their shoes. I don't see any of that here."

She turned to face him, her eyes narrow and darting back and forth between him and their surroundings. "Do you think the murderer might have arrived here by train? Or is he a local?"

"I think he is not the sort of man who could travel by train without drawing too much attention to himself. He is the sort who stays in the shadows."

Lucille nodded, as though she understood him perfectly, even those things he’d left unsaid. She really was peculiar, unlike any woman he'd met before.

Could he risk it?

It had been a long time since he'd ever told an outsider about his calling, and that had backfired spectacularly. Suddenly years of history didn't matter anymore, and the woman he'd opened up to because he wanted to spend his life with her had simply left.

But this right here was different; there was no history. What did he have to lose?

"There are more things between heaven and earth than most people choose to see or believe…"

Lucille folded her arms as she focused on him. He had her full attention.

"This murderer is not strictly a man," Valentino added.

"Why. Is it a woman?" she asked, cocking her head to the side.

The peculiar glint in her eye told him that he was on the right track. She was testing him; Valentino would bet his life on it.

"He's a Nightwalker. A vampire."

Lucille pursed her lips and glanced at the bin with the blood evidence on it, then back at him. The corner of her mouth twitched in amusement; it was so subtle he would have missed it if he wasn't paying attention.

"You're a hunter," she remarked, as though it was the most natural thing in the world.

He nodded. She knew the terminology. Unless she was the best actress he'd ever come across, nothing he'd told her so far had shocked her in any way.

"You have unusual methods. More like a forensic investigator than a hunter," she added.

He nodded again. "And your methods? Old school. More like a tracker."

Lucille smiled briefly. "I favor a more intuitive approach."

"Have you been at this long?" he asked. He was thirty-four, not old by any stretch of the imagination, but Lucille looked about ten years younger—exceptionally young for someone in their line of work. Perhaps it was a family affair for her, just like it had been for him.

"My entire life," she said.

Fine, so she wanted to keep things vague. He didn't mind. Their line of work was lonely and unappreciated for the most part. To run into another hunter was its own reward. He didn't need anything more than that for now.

"How about you make good on that promise then?" she said. "Of buying me another drink."

Valentino grinned. If she didn't look so serious he might have thought she was flirting with him.

They walked back together, and he again marveled at her smooth, deliberate movements, the strong spring in her step. It was a lonely existence; living on the fringes of society, hunting creatures that most people only acknowledged in their nightmares.

The times had changed since his parents and grandparents had been around. Mainstream society no longer believed in the supernatural, as he had so painfully found out in the past. Continuing in their footsteps had earned him a solitary life. It would be a nice change of pace to combine forces with a like-minded soul.

Plus, Lucille was an exceptionally beautiful woman. He would be lying to himself if he thought that she hadn't affected him on some deeper level. But he'd been at this too long to simply take other people at face value. He still needed to find out if he could trust Lucille.

"Right. Let's get that drink then," he said.
