Excerpt:
I’d thought about nothing else except putting a ring on Lo’s finger, but the timing was never right. The first time I’d planned on doing it, Kyle beat me to the punch.  Then the season had ramped up, and for the first time in years, the Scorpions qualified for March Madness. I’d tried at least two more times since then, but whenever I made plans, something would get in the way.

College.
The team.

Our family.

I’d finally planned to do it earlier this year when we won March Madness and I entered the draft. Only, we hadn’t won, and I’d decided not to draft after all.

I wasn’t ready.

We weren’t ready.

Lo and I had been through so much. I wanted to draft knowing she was one hundred percent ready to stand at my side.

My Thoughts:

Summer Stone-Prince’s life is about to change.  She shows that not everyone has it easy when they hit that point where they move from teenager to young adult.  And she actually found someone, or maybe he found her, to be her champion.  J.B. Holloway is trying to get back in the game.  He makes some very grown up decisions when most in his age group are all about having fun.

For some readers, this may be an emotional rollercoaster ride.  Having a box of tissue handy just in case might be a good idea.  What I’ve read of this series, I’ve enjoyed as well as had issues with.  This one has to be my favorite though.  The author hasn’t written anything that didn’t seem probable.  It’s one where I could see the families existing in my town – the most realistic.  If there was one thing that I really didn’t like is what the author discloses in her Author’s Note.

This is a series where you’ll come to care about these young adults.  In this book, you can really tell how much they all care about each other.  So I’ll be interested to see what the author has in store for her readers once the next book comes out.

Wicked Hearts, an all-new edgy, angsty, addictive YA/NA crossover from L. A. Cotton is NOW LIVE!

Some hearts are too broken to fix.

Kiera Lessinger’s whole life is a lie. Attend high school with her rich friends, check. Act sickeningly in love with her goofball-of-a-boyfriend, check. Pretend that every day isn’t a living nightmare, check. She didn’t ask to be thrust into her new life, but if it means escaping her past she’ll do whatever it takes to stay there. Even if it means forgetting the boy with eyes bluer than the ocean and a smirk that only ever led to trouble.

Trey Berrick has cleaned up his act. No longer the boy breaking hearts with a could-care-less attitude, he’s finally trying to be the man his family always wanted him to be. Sophomore in college, check. The forever girl, check. But despite having the world at his feet, Trey can’t forget the girl with pink in her hair and pain in her eyes.

He’ll always be the boy who broke her heart and she’ll always be his friend’s little sister. Their story was never meant to have a happy ending.

Or was it?

My Thoughts:

This is the story where we get to know Maverick Prince’s sister Macey.  She seems to say one thing but wants something else.  She seems to be holding in a lot of anger, which you can almost feel coming off the page.  It was not hard to feel sorry or sad for her.

Devon Lions has a history with Rick’s girlfriend Lo Stone.  If you’ve not read their story yet, this may give you the incentive to check out what you’ve missed.  Devon is trying to learn from past mistakes.  This was where I really had to feel sorry for both our main characters.

Macey seems like a train wreck waiting to happen.  Instead of asking for help she tries to deal with it on her own and you’ll see how well that’s working out for her.  You can tell she’s screaming on the inside and with this story being told in the first person; I can hear her loud and clear.

Devon has his own issues.  He’s making life choices based on what someone else wants.  And what he wants seems so far out of his reach.  He seems like an addiction to Macey – she can’t seem to stay away.  He’s got just what she needs.  But how is going to help her with the secrets she seems to be carrying.  One good thing is that she seems to be able to open up to him.

Just like other books in this series, the main characters seem older than what they say they are.  I think of them being in college rather than getting ready to graduate from high school.  This is most evident with a few of the incidents that occur.  If you’re a parent that reads the book before deciding if a YA is appropriate for your child, be aware that there is underage drinking going on.  For me, it seems as if the parents are oblivious to what their children are doing.  You will also want to remind them that this is a work of fiction.  We also have teenagers making adult decisions.  My happiness came in knowing that this author isn’t done with this series yet.  Bad news came when I see I have to wait until next spring – it’s going to be a long winter.
