BLURB:

I must keep it locked away—the memory of my darkest secret….

When the rising tides of my life peak, I’m left struggling with the currents of the storm. The first dilemma is my dad’s gambling debt. Mama bounces back quickly from the ramifications it causes. She proves this by getting a new man. Her Rico Suave is just the tip of the iceberg—she moves us across state to live with him and his two sons.

My outgoing, older sister fits right in—she’s the total opposite of me. I am Madison Guillory, the shy, quiet type. Taught to make the best of even the worst situations, I contemplate giving my new family a chance.

Living with my future stepbrothers is interesting, to say the least. They’re like night and day. I have more in common with the laid-back brother, and we become instant friends. I’m adjusting to Taylor High, and the arrogant brother is even starting to grow on me. Maybe everything will work out after all.

My life finally seems to be falling into place until a dreadful night shatters my dreams. My world is flipped upside down because of the consequences I must now bear.

The memories of that night lurk in the shadows to torment me. If I think of what happened, I’ll succumb to my fear. His face has scorned me. No one will believe me if I confess, not even my own sister. I hold the key to my darkest secret, desperate to keep it locked away.

My Thoughts:

Madison is doing the normal things that any young woman might do.  Home life is what she’s questioning.  Hers is not uncommon to see when bad decisions are being made.  She seems to have the weight of the world on her shoulders.  It seems like all the bad stuff is just building and building – a powder keg getting ready to blow.  This seems to be another story where some of the adults are disappointing – their actions are questionable.

Having this book told in parts is a smart move by the author.  This was a long story and having it split in two may make it easy for you when you are deciding to read.  You can split it into days instead of trying to read it all in one day.  But how you split will be a personal preference.

When you start the second part, you will want to give Madison a very big hug.  She’s had to grow up so fast and now she has to be an adult before she’s had the chance to finish her teens.  What was nice with this part is that she has someone she can go to.  An adult who cares was refreshing to see.

This author is one of those people that can disprove those that say “you just can't make this stuff up”.  Her story has more downs then ups but once I finally got to the end, our author let me know she’s not done with us yet.  On top of that, she gives us a little bit of herself so make sure to read the Author Notes.

Excerpt:

My mind begins to wander in the quietness. A new home, city, and school—no friends. Deep in thought, my head snaps to attention when I hear a baritone voice coming into the kitchen. He’s singing, “That’s what I like” by Bruno Mars. My eyes bulge, swearing that he sounds better than Bruno himself.

When he catches sight of me, his tune cuts off abruptly, and his hazel eyes widen. It’s Jackson. He’s dressed more casually in warmup pants and a T-shirt. He must have skipped dinner, too. I swallow hard, assuming he’s going to call me sweet-cheeks again.

“Hi,” he finally says.

“Hey, Jackson.” Maybe if I play nice, he won’t tease me.

His warm hazel eyes twinkle. “I’m not Jackson. I am his brother.”

“Oh,” is all I can muster. This boy is just as tall. He has the same handsome face, lean figure, and muscular arms as Jackson. They’re identical! My mother failed to mention Regan had twin sons. We stare at each other. As I’m studying him, he appears to be researching me. I can’t get a read on his expression. Friendly, although I seem to have startled him. My body is surging with an electric warmth as we stare. I look away, refusing to admit I was ogling him. I shouldn’t feel too foolish. His gaze wasn’t brotherly, either.

Glancing at him quickly, I spy him still staring. “What?” It’s a rude comment—the word just spills out of my mouth. My impoliteness doesn’t seem to faze him. His lips curve upward. A dimple! A deep one forms in his left cheek. Well, that is one way to tell them apart.

He clears his throat, breaking eye contact. “Um … nothing. Sorry, I’m not used to a girl being in our house.”

“Hate to break it to you, but I’m being forced to live here now.” He chuckles. The sound of his laugh makes my stomach flutter. I don’t like it one bit.

“It’s not bad living here. Big house, great amenities—give it a chance.”

“The house is gigantic.” I shrug. “But Baton Rouge will always be home to me. It’s where I was born and have lived all my life.”

He nods in understanding. “Fair enough. I’m Justin, by the way.”

“Yeah, I met your obnoxious twin.”

He laughs again. “That would be my older brother, by only five minutes.”

Explaining my ogling, I say, “My mom forgot to tell us you and Jackson are twins.”

“Ah, that would account for the look on your face.”

I smirk at him, trying to hold in my smile.

“You must be Madison.”

“Lucky guess?”

“No, I haven’t met your sister yet. Your curls gave it away.”

My curls? “I don’t get your drift.” Justin opens the fridge, pulling out both trays. He stuffs more on his plate than I had.

“My dad told us the younger one, Madison, has a head full of curls.”

I remember the first time Tanya and I met Regan when he came to Baton Rouge. Self-consciously, I tug on a curl, yanking it straight. Once I release the piece, it springs right back into a spiral. My hair falls to my shoulders. I never do much to it because my curls are hard to tame.

A light sparkles in Justin’s hazel eyes. “Your hair is pretty.”

His admission surprises me. My stomach turns a cartwheel. Ugh! My manners intercept my irritation. Just because Justin’s making me uneasy doesn’t mean I shouldn’t thank him for complimenting me. “Thanks.”

“Do you dye it?”

I get asked this question often. It’s dominantly dark brown with natural highlights. “Um, no. Just born with two-toned colored hair.”

“The blondish highlights are quite unique.”

Okay, time to leave. Justin is charming and sings like an angel. I like the fact he’s making small talk—it lightens the mood. The problem is I shouldn’t be attracted to a boy who could possibly become my future stepbrother. “I’m gonna head upstairs.”

His forehead wrinkles. “Nice meeting you.”

After I clean my plate, I smile—or attempt to. I hurry away, because my cheeks are growing redder by the minute. I wish my complexion wasn’t such a light shade of brown. Even a blind person could see my blush.

I worry about my first impression on him. I’m sure I seemed ill-mannered. But in the short span of time talking to Justin, my palms became clammy and my body tingly. Two totally different reactions with the Jenkins’ twins. Jackson sorta got under my skin—Justin set me ablaze. This is just day one in Houston Texas.

What else will this city bring?

Excerpt:

“Willow.”
I swallow, then rub my thighs together. “Zeke.”
His nostrils flare.
“Is everything okay? You look—” I pause, licking my bottom lip. “—angry.”
He narrows his eyes.
What could I have possibly done to upset him? Didn’t I rock out like a fiend? Didn’t I comply with every obsessive-compulsive demand? And why, for the love of Athena, is he so freaking sexy when he’s pissed?
I need to get my head checked.
Zeke’s chest rises and falls at a frantic rate. It’s like he finished an ultra-marathon clocking a personal best time. Stepping closer, I peer into his face. The pulse at the base of his neck jumps, his jaw is tense, and those caramel irises are ablaze. The fact that he’s seconds away from losing his cool should terrify me; it should send me running in the opposite direction. But it doesn’t. Despite our argument this afternoon, despite his harsh words, the rage draws me closer—a hurricane I’m determined to chase.
On impulse, I reach out, my steady hands claiming his chest. Damn, it’s hard. Clearing my throat, I murmur, “Hey, talk to me. What’s going on?”
“You left.”
I raise a questioning eyebrow.
“One minute you were in the production room, the next you were gone. Reid didn’t know where you were. Drake didn’t have a goddamn clue. Your car was missing, and you didn’t answer your phone.” His hands clench and unclench by his sides. “You. Left.”
There is every chance I’m going to regret my next decision. In a few hours’ time I’ll likely look back on this moment and shake my head at my stupidity. But right now? Right now the fog clears and my path becomes obvious. Zeke is hurting. I’m the antidote. Simple.
I shift closer.
After sliding warm palms over his pecs, I snake them behind his neck until my fingers play with the short strands of his dark hair. His eyes widen. Then his pupils dilate when I draw him toward me. Our foreheads touch.
Zap.
Tingling energy sparks, then flares. Yet my voice is calm. “Yes, I left.”
Strong fingers clamp down on my hips. I bite back a groan.
“But I was coming back.” They dig into my skin. “I’ve signed a contract. I gave my word. I never back out on a promise.” I trace the harsh contours of his face.
He flinches but doesn’t pull away.
“Always so angry,” I murmur, caressing the strong line of his jaw. The stubble on his chin tickles my soft skin. “Why are you always so angry, Zeke?”
His nostrils flare.
Pressing my fingers against his full lips, I continue, “And I’ve never seen you smile. Why is that?”
I cup his cheek, my white skin almost translucent against his tan.
He inhales. “You need to stop touching me.”
When I cup his other cheek, our noses touch. “Can’t.”
His gaze flits between my eyes, searching. I’m transfixed, drowning in his confused indecision. Pulling back, he looks away, his Adam’s apple bobbing on a swallow. “Kinda like havin’ you around.”
Drawing his gaze to me, I murmur, “You’ve got a strange way of showing it.”
“You’ve got a strange way of liking it.”
In that moment, he sets my world on fire then stands back to watch it burn. But I won’t go quietly. If he wants ashes, I’ll become a goddamn ash cloud.
“For the record, I hate when you yell,” I murmur.
Blink.
“I hate when you’re cruel.”
Blink.
“And I really hate that you were married.”

Exclusive Excerpt:

The elevator ride is beyond tense. Zeke refuses to look at me, yet won’t let go of my hand, while I try not to yank him close and trace his scowl lines with my tongue. I keep reminding myself he’s not mine to touch, that I have no right to want a man who has been a jerk to me. But my body won’t hear of it. It wants what it wants, and for some stupid reason, it wants Zeke. A lot.

My mind, however, is adamant. Are you crazy, Wil? Don’t let the guy touch you. Step away from the sexy man. Now.

I try to ease out of his clasp, but his hold tightens. Giving up far too quickly, I sigh, frustrated by my quick submission.

When we step into the hallway, Zeke leads me toward the apartment Drake and I are sharing. He punches in the code and opens the door. Finally letting go of me, he points to the couch. “Sit.”

“I’m fine. Give me five minutes to make myself a snack and I’ll be good to go.”

With a low growl, he slams the door shut behind me. I jump. Zeke shifts his body until I’m pushed against the cold wood and he is standing a hairsbreadth away. His hands rest on either side of my head. Craning my neck, I take in his thunderous expression. Something about the barely veiled ferocity calls to me. It dares me to step closer, spread my arms, and dance in the tempest.

I’ve always loved storms, and this man is a storm personified.

Tingles break out on my skin. My heart pounds against my chest as deviant fingers itch to reach out and cup his strong jawline. I want to press my lips to his. I want to taste his tongue, his mouth, his soul. I want him to gift that essential part of him, so I can keep it safely locked away for eternity. But I won’t. It’s not mine to take, and he’s not a man who’d give it anyway.

Zeke’s low growl snaps me from my reverie. “When I tell you to do something, you do it. Don’t argue, don’t question, just get it fucking done. Understand?”

Rather than intimidate me, his dominance triggers a tension that has no place between us. A warmth swells in my belly, heat rushes to my cheeks, and desire fuels my movements. Tipping my chin up, I narrow my eyes, daring him to bark directives again.

Beside me, Zeke’s hands curl into fists. For a long moment, we stare at each other, the standoff growing, building, morphing into a tangible being. Heat and annoyance war on his face. I’m transfixed by the interplay—couldn’t look away if I tried.

Without warning, he wrenches from the wall and marches to the kitchen. My eyes, traitorous heathens, follow him the whole way.

Exclusive Excerpt:

“You’re not a people person, are you?”

Silence.

“Zeke?”

Nothing.

Oh hell no.

Planting fists on my hips, I glare at his dark, close-cropped hair. If it wasn’t for my guitar swaying from the movement, I would look totally badass. “It’s rude to ignore people, you know. And it’s really rude not to look them in the eye when they’re speaking.”

He stills.

Zeke turns. His movement is slow, deliberate. I swallow, resisting the urge to stumble back. His gaze purposely travels the length of my bare legs. They’re perfectly ordinary, with ankles and knees and everything in between. But under his scrutiny they become something more, something desirable. My calves never felt so smooth, my thighs never so lean. I shiver. His stare flits over my denim cutoffs, partially obscured by my Fender, and rests a moment too long on my exposed stomach. His eyes then take in the loose cropped T-shirt and caress the outline of my breasts. They’re made even more obvious by the guitar strap resting between them, and it takes everything I have not to arch my back.

Zeke’s jaw tightens.

My thighs clench.

Since my shirt hangs haphazardly off one shoulder, his stare zeros in on the dusting of freckles near my collarbone. Goose bumps break out on my skin. Taking his sweet-ass time, Zeke lets his gaze roam my neck, lips, cheeks, hair, and, finally, finally, his eyes meet mine.

Whoa.

Sun-kissed bronze. I’ve never seen anything like it. His eyes are golden caramel mixed with flecks of amber and tawny. Despite the color’s vibrancy, they’re flat, defensive, caged in so much suspicion that I’m desperate to know who or what put it there. Distrusting or not, they’re beautiful.

“See?” Breathless. Crap. “Knew you could do it.”

Then, with more grace than a six-foot-two mountain of a man has a right to, Zeke stands. My head tips back to take him all in. The man is close, so close I inhale his scent—pine needles after heavy rain. I take in a lungful, wanting to secrete away this part of him before he shatters the illusion of perfection by speaking.

Zeke’s eyes drop to my lips.

I swallow.

He swallows.

“Zeke, sugar?”

His head whips to the right. Standing in the doorway is a tall, curvaceous bombshell. From the glistening cobalt hair cascading over tan shoulders to her hourglass figure enhanced by a white wrap dress, she is everything I am not. Her flawless makeup is artfully applied, and, at a guess, she’s either in her late twenties or early thirties, older than me by at least five years. She wears it well. So well, it takes everything I have not to groan out loud. Is she lost? But then I remember the intimate way she greeted Zeke.

My insides constrict.

“Oh.” Red manicured nails clutch a voluptuous chest. “Am I interrupting?” With a smile that is two parts conniving and one part candid, the woman saunters toward me, her bejeweled hand outstretched. “I’m Selena. And you are…?”

Stunned.

Zeke’s voice is hard. “She’s no one.”

Ouch.

I glare at Zeke. Did he eye-fuck me despite having a girlfriend, or even worse, a wife? Asshole.

About THE PROPOSITION:

They call me the Charmer. My best friend Wade tells me it’s because I’m suave and mysterious. But he doesn’t know my secret. The one I’ve kept hidden from him for twelve years. The one I will never reveal to him — Rhys

They call me The Brute. Probably because of my physique. And, let’s face it, because I’m a total dick at times. So Rhys likes to tell me anyway. Thing is, there’s something Rhys isn’t telling me. Something I’m dying to hear from his lips. His sinful confession. You see, I know Rhys’s secret — Wade

Rhys Damon has spent most of his adult life watching Wade Tucker bed woman after woman, his dark desire for his best friend and business partner a secret he is determined to take to his grave, since he knows it will never be reciprocated. With their design firm thriving across two continents, Rhys finds himself content burying his heartache in a string of meaningless, casual sex arrangements. Until the night everything changes.

When Wade Tucker stumbles upon his best friend calling out his name as he pleasures himself, he knows his relationship with Rhys will never be the same again. A year later, the memory of what Wade saw is still branded in his mind and his feelings for Rhys have evolved into something he never anticipated. As tension mounts and the relationship between the two business partners becomes increasingly strained, things finally come to a head the night Wade follows Rhys and discovers him with another man.

After an explosive confrontation, Wade makes Rhys a proposition he can’t refuse: that they try things out for six weeks. Six weeks of exploring a side of each other they never knew before. Six weeks of torrid kisses and sultry touches. Six weeks of screamingly good, scorching hot sex. Six weeks of utterly losing themselves to one another.

But as the end of their proposition looms in sight, can Wade persuade Rhys that he wants more? Or will Rhys’s deep-seated fears stop him from fully surrendering his heart and soul to the one man he thought he could never have?

Discover Rhys and Wade’s wickedly intoxicating story in this sixth novella in the hot, contemporary romance series Nights by A.M. Salinger.

My Thoughts:

Rhys Damon is not happy about the turn of events.  Wade Tucker is the man in charge.  Expect some graphic conversations.  Maybe you don’t like books that are very explicit, than you may need to rethink whether you want to read or not.  I was impressed with how our author treated her characters – each scene felt very real.  If I had one downside it would be the way Wade didn’t seem to be conflicted about the change in their relationship - especially if you look at his past.  Even though these are two businessmen this story is more about their personal interactions.

Who says a romance between two men can’t be sexy?  Well they should check this book out because this may change their mind.  I know there are some that are just uncomfortable about this type of story.  But this a story about people who are comfortable in their skin and enjoy each other’s company – the emphasis here is people.  If you’ve read far enough you’ll see that Wade says it perfectly.  Some may think this sad but everyone deserves happiness.  And I was happy when I got to the end because our author is not done with these two gentlemen yet.
