My Thoughts:

Asher “Ash” Jenkins has a new neighbor.  Kristy Richards is getting to know her next-door neighbor.  This story is about the relationship between an older woman and a much younger man – just a little note for those that have issues with taboo subjects. 

There were times where I could easily dismiss Asher’s age because of how he acts.  But then it’s constantly brought to my attention so it ends up being all I think about.  There are moments of awkwardness and our author does a good job in getting me to feel that.  I could also feel Asher’s frustration over the situation.  He reveals a secret that for some may shock but it’s just one more reminder of the differences between the main characters.  On the other side, I really couldn’t feel any connection, other than physical, between our main characters. 

I was surprised that this was considered a romantic comedy.  I found it very hard to find anything funny.  I did see a couple of jokes which I guess is what makes it a comedy except they fell short in getting me to laugh – and no, not even a chuckle.  On the plus side it does seem realistic.  One thing that I felt wasn’t realistic was the acceptance of some of the secondary characters - we see how public opinion plays out in the news.  But that’s why this is fiction.  In the fictional world anything is acceptable.

This book was just not for me.  I don’t mind an age difference in a book but this just stretched that a little too much.  It made it difficult to read at times and maybe that’s why I didn’t feel any that connection between Kristy and Asher.  In the author’s defense she did give me the happy ending that I always love to see in a romance.  Will this stop me from reading any more by our author?  No it wouldn’t as long as I don’t see this type of subject – it just pushes a little past my comfort zone.
