About Highland Justice:

As the new chief of Clan Mackay, Gideon Sinclair knows the importance of maintaining order at any cost. To keep the conquered clan in line, Gideon must mete out ruthless justice or risk losing their precious new peace. But from the moment he meets Cait Mackay—aye, from the moment the sweetness of her lips captures his—all of Gideon’s careful objectivity is well and thoroughly compromised.

Cait knows that kissing the brawny Highlander is a dangerous game. It was bad enough she picked his pocket to feed the children in her care, but sometimes a desperate woman must disguise her crimes any way she can. Only her act of deception has made things worse… Because one kiss with the Highland’s most brutal chief leaves her breathless and out of her depth.

Now Gideon must choose between his duty and his heart when his lovely thief is accused of treason against the king himself.

“That’s Fiona’s sister. They live together.” Cait smiled brightly. “I’m well treated,” she called out.

Gideon’s gaze went from Cait to Evie and back to Cait. “She thinks ye are being mistreated up at the castle?” he asked.

“Probably. ’Tis why Fiona was at the castle today.” Her gently arched brows rose. “You’d make large strides in winning the villagers over if the sisters liked you.”

“Mo chreach,” Gideon swore. He turned and waved at her, Evie staring back with her mouth agape. Gideon’s gesture looked awkward like he hadn’t ever waved before. Fiona came out to stand next to her sister, frowning.

“I treat everyone well,” he called. “I mean to say, not prisoners, of course.”

“Don’t tease about prisoners,” Cait whispered with a groan.

“Except Cait. She’s a well-treated prisoner. She’s not a prisoner. Any longer…because I am not… She didn’t…” He stopped talking, his jaw moving as if it ached. “Cait is treated well.” He turned away but then stopped, looking back. “Ye are to come to the Hogmanay Festival she is setting up at the castle,” Gideon called. “Everyone must come. Let others know.”

They started walking again. “Must?” Cait said. “As in, they will be judged poorly if they do not attend? Perhaps treated poorly?”

Gideon frowned. “Nay. ’Tis just…a way to say they should come.”

“For a man who spouts laws and rules to his people, you need to be quite careful of the words you use.”

Gideon huffed, turned on his heel, and strode back toward Fiona and Evie. Good Lord. He’d scare Evie into an early grave. Cait rushed after him.

“Excuse me, mistresses,” he said. “What I meant to say is ye both should…that ye are welcome to come to my…to the Hogmanay Festival for your village, which just happens to be up at the castle. There will be food and drink and music. Everyone is welcome, not required, but welcome to participate. And if ye choose not to come, it will not be noted.” He paused as if thinking. “Except, I would miss your kind company, gentlewomen.” Gideon paused as if going over his words. “And Cait is treated well, even though she’s working off her penance.”

Fiona nodded. “We will come,” she said, her lips pursed like they’d been most of the day as she helped Cait up at the castle.

“Very well.” Gideon forced a smile. “Good evening tide.” He turned, but then pivoted back in rapid succession. “And the bell is just a recommendation to close down and go inside for rest. Ye are welcome to…roam about all night if that is your wish. Let others know that, too.”

Cait could barely squash her smile and met Fiona’s gaze.

Highland Conquest

Highland Warrior

 Exclusive Excerpt:

Bloody hell! What was she doing? Gideon certainly wouldn’t let a lass dupe him like Ella had tricked his oldest brother with a kiss, to escape him when they first met.

Fingers tugging his hair, she pressed her lips hard against his. The kiss was clumsy, frantic, like a virgin caught in her first storm of passion. But when her warm palms caught his face, and she slanted across his mouth, deepening the kiss, he wondered if she possibly had some experience.

She stroked fingers through his hair, her warm lips moving over his, and her frantic desperation began to calm. As the stiffness he’d felt in her faded, so did his thoughts about Ella tricking Cain and whether this soft creature in his arms was a maiden or not. Even the questions about how she got in and her ultimate purpose washed away with the growing warmth of her response. Perhaps it was the darkness, or the mystery of who she was, or the scent that plucked at his memory, but fire ignited inside Gideon. His arms encircled her, pulling her soft body against his hard frame.

Gideon lifted her, backing her against the wall. She was all womanly curves and softness. His fingers tangled in the twist of hair at her nape. Pins fell, plinking on the stone window frame next to her, and her heavy braid slipped down over one shoulder. He pressed his face to it, inhaling along the thick length as they both pulled shallow breaths. It was silky and fragrant, tugging at that memory that wouldn’t reveal itself. Who was she? Would she stay the night?

His mouth fell upon her neck, tasting the light saltiness there as he trailed kisses over her smooth skin. Her head tipped back against the wall, her breath coming in shallow rasps. He moved back to her parted lips where the kiss swept them both up again. The woman’s scent, her warmth and curves, the mystery around her… It all ensnared him. Like a siren in Homer’s Odyssey.

He held her between him and the stone wall beside the open window. Cold air had no effect on him with such fire growing inside at her response. He captured her face in his hands, feeling the mask. It was wool and tied tightly. He reached behind her head to pluck at the knot. As if the lass had been under the same spell as he, his tugging on the ties startled her into action. She gasped, turning her face away before he could free the knot. She shoved at his chest, her knee rising, but he shifted so she missed his groin.

“Hold still,” he said, but her hand whipped out toward him, and Gideon felt the sting of a blade across his arm. Surprise made him release his hold for a second. Apparently, that was all the time the lass needed to hurl herself out of his window.

“Nay!” he yelled as she disappeared, leaping to her death.

RABT Book Tours Presents: Knights In Time by Chris Karlsen; #BookTour, #NowAvailable, #OutNow, #TBR, #Live, #Giveaway

Box Set, First 3 Books in the Knights In Time Series
Genre:  Romance
Date Published: 09-05-2014
Publisher: Books to Go Now
#rabtbooktours #KnightsinTime
#ChrisKarlsen #TimeTravelRomance

Best-selling series, together for the first time in a boxed set.

Three friends...warrior knights, One battle will change their lives, Love will change their worlds.

HEROES LIVE FOREVER

Elinor Hawthorne has inherited a house haunted by two medieval knights, Basil Manneville and Guy Guiscard. Basil is literally the knight of her dreams. She never expected to “meet” a ghost face to face let alone fall in love with one. Living the normal life together that they’d want is impossible unless fate intervenes.

A lifetime later fate does intervene. Basil, still in love with Elinor, is told her spirit lives on in a young woman. He is given another chance at life to find her.

Excerpt:

Strong arms caught her. Strong arms? Before that curious thought formed in her confused brain, she found herself upright.

Elinor blinked several times, trying to get her bearings.

“I didn’t feel that. I’ll look behind me and see no one is there,” she reassured herself not wholly convinced. Prepared for flight over fight, she spun around.

A man stood a few feet away. At least what was visible looked like a man. He appeared to be a knight, similar to the one in her painting, except semi-transparent. She gasped, momentarily more stunned than afraid. The knight seemed as disconcerted as she was shocked. Two ebony eyebrows slashed downward into a harsh frown as he stared back. He composed himself. The fleeting moment where he looked rattled, gone.

“Milady.” The corners of his mouth tipped in weak smile. “I would’ve liked us to have met under better circumstances.”

JOURNEY IN TIME

The budding romance between London attorney, Shakira Constantine, and her client, Alex Lancaster is put to the test when the couple finds themselves torn through time back to the medieval world. It’s a world Alex has a strong connection to, a connection that will cost him his life unless they can find a way to return to this time. Without him, Shakira is condemned to live in a dangerous medieval world alone.

Together they’ll struggle to discover a way back to the modern world while dealing with the political and social intrigues of 14th Century England. The intrigues of that world all too often work against their efforts to get home.

Excerpt:

Nothing made sense. Whether it was a crazy university project, a period movie, or re-enactors too into their roles, Shakira didn’t care. This was not the weekend she envisioned. She wanted to leave. The atmosphere, the people, and the looks they gave her made her uneasy. She didn’t know what was going on with Alex. Why did he know everyone? Why had his manner suddenly grown so stiff and imperious? What about this place made it so dangerous for them?

She had enough.

Alex must’ve sensed her anxiety. He interrupted his conversation and was at her side in a matter of seconds.

“I’ll help you dismount.” He took the reins from her firm grip and lifted her down to the ground. “Come.” He offered her his arm and tucked her hand in the crook of his elbow.

“No.” Shakira refused to move. “I want to go home.”

He looked ill, green around the gills, like he was seasick.

“You can’t.”

KNIGHT BLINDNESS

Stephen Palmer, a wounded medieval knight finds himself torn through time from the battlefield to the modern and alien world.

Seriously injured, he now must make his way in a world he has no context for and no knowledge about.

Esme Crippen is hired as his tutor. Love is something he does understand and as the two fall into love, they both must overcome the fact the world thinks him mad with his time-travel talk, including Esme.

EXCERPT:

“The men would stay here how long to hunt?” The primitive accommodations did not instill confidence in Jane. She’d likely not make it here a single night.

“According to my father, sometimes a week or more.”

Grimacing, Jane moved to the single door on the right. “What room is this?”

“That chamber is reserved for the Kinellan.” He opened the door and ushered her in.

Much larger than the other rooms, this one boasted a large double-sized poster bed with curtains around its four sides made of what was once costly blue brocade fabric, though now faded and dusty looking. At the time they were new they must have been quite elegant.  The walls of this chamber were not Spartan as the other rooms, but decorated with several sets of antlers, a portrait of some Seton ancestor she assumed, and an ancient broadsword hung beneath the Seton coat of arms. A chest on chest and a wardrobe gave the room an aura of sophistication after the other sparsely furnished rooms.

“I see the Kinellan likes his luxuries.” She ran her hand over the comforter and pressed down on the mattress, testing the bed. “Although this mattress is quite lumpy.”

“Really?” Kinellan suddenly loomed overtop of her and she caught her breath. “That could be unfortunate.”

“Unfortunate?” Her voice rose to a squeak as he tipped her head back and lowered his mouth to hers.

The insistence of his lips, the tension in his body, and the bulge in his buckskins all told of his desire.

So much the better.

“What speaks to you as you write a historical romance?”

Being a life-long lover of history and a history major as an undergraduate in college, I can assure you that history has always spoken to me in a very intimate way. I’ve always been fascinated by various time periods and especially how people lived during eras that were much different from my own.

This sensibility certainly carries over into my work as I pen historical romances in a variety of periods. So one of the biggest things that speaks to me while writing is the time period itself. I’m curious about all kinds of things: distances a carriage can travel in a day, how a lady’s maid dressed, what kinds of carriages were available, what did dueling pistols look like. I have a voracious hunger to get all the details in my novels as historically correct as I possibly can, and so I delve into research with both feet, sometimes taking huge amounts of time to track down one tiny piece of minutiae that I believe the necessary to build the historical world of my novel.

What also often speaks to me are the characters themselves—sometimes in very literal ways. They really do have voices that I can hear in my head (I hope that doesn’t sound psychotic) and I usually listen to them because, after all, this is their story. Once I needed a name for a very minor character—a previous suitor of the heroine. That’s all. And out of nowhere a voice whispered, “Amiable.” I’d never heard that word used as a name before, but suddenly, with that whispered name, the character sprang to life for me. He went on to have his own very successful romance in that same series. So now I do tend to listen when characters speak to me.

EXCERPT:

Throwing up his hands, he groaned and sagged against the wall, his banyan sliding half off him. “Have your way with me, woman. I surrender myself into your hands. Do with me what you will and I swear I will enjoy it.”

Panting, she stepped back from him, seeing the sculpted muscular form, strong arms, and dark eyes glazed with smoldering desire as if for the first time. This man wanted her, or had wanted her to be his wife for a long time. No one would ever make her feel this way again, mo matter how many lovers she might take. She could look for the rest of her life and not find a man as kind or generous or loving as he. And she had all but thrown his love away with both hands. The revelation devastated her and she hung her head.

“Jane?” Kinellan straightened, peering into her face.

Sobbing, she threw her arms around him, laying her head on his broad chest, the only place she wanted it to be. Tears pricked her eyes. The fast beat of his heart beneath her ear should have given comfort, but did not, for her own heart was tearing asunder. The trickle of tears became a flood.

“Darling.” He slipped his arms around her, cradling her close. “What is wrong?”

“I…I don’t want to leave.”

“Sweetheart.” He cupped her chin and turned her face up to his. A thundery frown marred his brow. “Who has asked you to leave? Was it Aunt Prudence? Fiona?”

“N…no.” Jane sniffed, trying to blink back the tears and regain her composure.

“Someone else?” His frown grew darker.

She nodded. “You.”
