He always gets what he wants...
and now his focus is on me.

I lost my boyfriend on the night I had planned to propose.
It was a horrific accident that was all my fault.
I gave up and resigned myself into a life of obscurity.

Until I got a call that my sister, Sara, needed me.
It gave me purpose and I ran to her rescue.
Because that's what I've done our whole lives.

That's how I ended up in Brigs Ferry Bay.
But when I showed up, things were so much worse than I thought.
She was sullen, fragile, and sinking into a depression I didn't know how I'd get her out of.
Together, we were drowning.

Until I met Kian.
He's everything I'm not.
Bouncy, bubbly, full of life, and an innate ability to make everything better.
He makes me believe I can be happy again.

Now the unthinkable has happened and Sara is on the verge of losing her life.
Once again, it's all my fault.
Kian had clouded my vision with promises of hope and forever.
I was so stupid to believe I could be happy again.

I try to push him away.
To shove him out of the darkness that follows me.
I don't want him to suffer the future fate had secured me to.
But Kian's focus is on me
And he's used to getting what he wants.

Brigs Ferry Bay is a steamy MM romance series.

Fall in love with the charming small-town gay romances of Brigs Ferry Bay.

While each book can be read as a standalone, to get the full experience, they’re best read in order.

My Thoughts:

Archer will have you holding your breath and wondering when it will be safe to release.  It will have you wondering how a heart can heal after that.  Kian just wants to share his life with someone.  With this story, we get more of a sense of community – the reader may feel a part of.

The author shows how tough it can be on a person who already has issues and then more gets put on their already sagging shoulders.  You have an author that knows what she’s doing when you begin to question a character’s train of thought.  Will all that weight ever get lifted off those shoulders?

I know there’s an age-gap but it’s so slight that you really don’t notice it.  If your going to notice anything then it would be where their minds are.  Expect plenty of heat once the match is lit.  The author has created a subplot that’s tough to read because it makes the heart hurt but it adds a little extra realism to the story.  Sometimes we have others in our lives that can pull our mind and heart in other directions.

In this particular situation, it pulled my attention away from the main story.  Besides bringing me down, it also brought down a lot of the story.  This was the first time in a very long time that I wanted to skip ahead so that I could get back to where I wanted my attention to be.  I kept up the hope that things would get better so I soldier on.  Part of what made it difficult was that those parts seemed to move in slow motion.  If you are someone that has had to deal with some “down” moment in your life, this may not be for you.

One thing to remember about our main characters is that their trying to develop an M/M relationship.  My rating had nothing to do with that at all.  There was nothing that the author wrote about these two men that made me feel uncomfortable.  It’s wanting to see if they got to have a relationship that had me wanting to finish.  It was the secondary character that had me deciding on what my rating was going to be because I had such high hopes after reading the first book in the series.  But I still wanted to see happy but it takes a while to finally get there.

About My Kind of Love:

Micaela

Once upon a time, a boy and a girl met and fell in love… That’s the way my love story began, but unlike the fairy tale, it ended with me standing in the cemetery, watching my prince get lowered into the ground, along with all our dreams. Now he’s gone and I’m lost. Until an impromptu trip to my family’s beach house has me spending time with Ryan. With his help, I’m learning to live again and make plans for the future. The only problem is, we both know they can’t include him. So, when our time is up, we do the only thing we can do—go our separate ways.

Ryan

My entire life, I’ve felt like the waves in a raging sea—crashing and breaking, never settling. Until Micaela stormed in like a hurricane, colliding into my life and my heart. I thought she’d be my destruction, but instead she turned out to be my calm. The more time we spend together, the more life she breathes into both of us. But all too quickly, our time is up and she’s ready to face her future—one I can’t be a part of. So, I do the impossible and walk away. But life is crazy, and love knows no bounds. You might’ve thought this is where our story ends, but the truth is… it’s only the beginning.

Take an amazing ride around the world with Brisa and Ranger, and CREW!
No passport required.

BLURB:
She’s the forbidden fruit, and I’m her dirty fantasy.
Four years ago, she kissed me. She said she was nineteen. She wasn’t even close. To make it even worse, she’s daddy’s little princess.
Then, a year ago, I was hired to head a security team for her out-of-control younger sister while on a world tour with the band Foreplay. I vowed to stay away from her, becoming a shadow in the dark whenever she was around.
Now she’s been hired to photograph her sister’s sixty-day honeymoon, all around the world.
She’s not a little girl anymore. She makes damn sure I notice that, too. But I’m still the same man.
Falling is not an option. However, each day, she’s making it harder and harder to avoid.
I promised myself not to break her heart, yet mine lies in busted pieces all over the world.

Purchase 𝐁𝐔𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐄𝐋:

My Thoughts:

Author writes a note To The Reader that you need to pay attention to before you proceed.

Brisa is a young woman who thinks and acts like someone older.  She lets us in on some of her memories that will give you a chuckle or two.  Ranger has past regrets.  He’s a man who likes to take charge – definitely an alpha male.

You can tell there’s an age gap but it’s nothing that should make you feel uncomfortable.  A way you can tell is in how they each act and during the times we go back in time.  Brisa reminds me of some of the girls you see when you’re at the beach or walking around – a younger woman trying to grab attention.  Our author must know that I watch way too many of the reality crime shows.  I was actually watching one at the time of writing this review and parts of this story would fit in perfectly.  On the opposite end of that she knows how to kick the heat up.

The author is good at writing some awkward moments that gave me a snicker or two at someone else’s expense.  She’s also good at creating men that command our attention and women that when you first meet can’t see how these two are ever going to end up together.  That’s a great way to keep my attention and looking to see how it all ends.  And the ending just left wondering if I’m going to see them again.  And you know what that means, I’ll have to keep following this series.

#Review: My Darling Arrow by Saffron A. Kent; #NowAvailable, #OutNow, #TBR, #Live, #Audiobook, #Review

My Darling Arrow
by Saffron A. Kent
St. Mary’s Rebels Series, #1
Narrators: Jason Clarke and Sarah Puckett
Rating: 4.0
Told in the first person. Alternating persons.

Disclosure of Material Connection:  I received this book for review from Wildfire Marketing Solutions and the author. I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am posting this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255: "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising".

Synopsis:

Darling Arrow,

I shouldn’t be writing this.

It’s not as if I’m ever going to send you this letter and there are a million reasons why.

First of all, I was sent to St. Mary’s School for Troubled Teenagers – an all-girls reform school – as a punishment for a petty, totally inconsequential crime. Not to ogle the principal’s hot son around the campus.

Second of all, you’re a giant jerk. You’re arrogant and moody and so cold. Sometimes I think I shouldn’t even like you.

But strangely your coldness sets me on fire.

The way your athletic body moves on the soccer field and the way your powerful thighs sprawl across that bike of yours, make me go inappropriately breathless.

But that’s not the worst part.

The worst part is that you, Arrow Carlisle, are not only the principal’s hot son.

You also happen to be the love of my sister’s life.

And I really shouldn’t be thinking about my sister’s boyfriend or rather fiancé (I overheard a conversation about the ring that I shouldn’t have.)

Now if I can only stop writing you these meaningless letters that I’ll never send and you’ll never read…

Never yours,
Salem

NOTE: This book is a standalone and DOES NOT contain cheating.

My Thoughts:

I loved listening to this book and at some point will listen to again.  Part of the reason that I want to listen to the book again is due to the narrators.  Mr. Clarke and Ms. Puckett did a great job in helping me imagine who Arrow and Salem are and what they are feeling.

Our narrators are the ones that brought life to what our author has written.  By listening to Ms. Puckett as Salem, we feel so sorry for what she’s going through and your heart wants things to get better for her.  Mr. Clarke is good at showing how brooding Arrow is.  He has issues that you hope he can resolve.

One warning might be that there comes a point where your heart almost breaks for what Arrow had to go through growing up.  It’s something that does happen so for some it might be a trigger.  At points in the story, that feeling sits in the background as I listen to Arrow voice his frustration.  Salem seems to have a bubbly personality that sits below the surface because of how she feels that others see her.  She also has issues but has some great friends if she’s willing to let them in.

Your experience will be different if you read as opposed to listening to a book.  In this case, I think the listening is the way to go.  You can’t feel the hurt, the anger, or the passion as good as you can when someone reads to you.  Words have a different life when you can put a voice to what you see on a page.  As I was writing this review, I found that this is the first in a series so I will be interested to see where the author plans to take her readers.
