I was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas and lived there until I went off to college at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville (Go Razorbacks!). I've lived in Little Rock, Memphis, back to Little Rock, and finally back home to Hot Springs, where my husband and I live on a lake.
I spent seventeen years in the healthcare field. I worked as an RN, taught Obstetrics in an RN program, coordinated a prenatal screening program and then was Medical Services Director at the University of Tennessee, Memphis and ended my medical career as an Administrator for a private group medical practice. I missed academic and left medicine to return to the University of Memphis as Director of Graduate Programs at the Fogelman College of Business. I grabbed the opportunity to return to Arkansas by taking a position as Assistant Dean for Executive Programs in the College of Business at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. It was there that I finished my education by earning a doctorate in Higher Education Administration. In 2002, I retired and took up the pastime that had consumed all my spare time my entire life –reading, a new book every day. I've been a reader as far back as I can remember – including forging letters from my mother when I was in grade school so I could stay in from recess and read! I cut my teeth on Nancy Drew, Trixie Beldon, and The Hardy Boys.
When I decided to try my hand at writing, I did what any academic would do; I decided to get as much information about the craft as I could. I traveled a great deal in 2006, meeting people and learning about writing as an art.
Since my husband retired in 2003, we've split our time between home in Arkansas and home in our RV on the road somewhere. But we don't travel alone. We have Maggie (Border Collie), Jill (Flat Coated Retriever) and Panama (Spoiled Parrot).
So, that's my story. I travel. I read. I write. I erase what I wrote. And FINALLY…I can say…I SOLD!

My Thoughts:

Sable Hunter is ready to validate her occupation choice.  Her job has me wanting to go back and watch some of my favorite Animal Planet shows.  Ryan Donovan is the hunky cowboy who happens to own a ranch.  They had me wanting to take a trip to Texas and go looking for their small town.  It wouldn’t hurt to find a sexy cowboy either.

It’s a short story that won’t take long to read.  It may just leave you wanting more of this series.  We have a strong female character that is trying to change men’s perceptions about women vets.  At one point in the story, Ryan made me pissed and I thought Sable was too good for him.  But I liked the fact that he manned up and realized his mistake before it became too late.  The ending is one that may have you smiling or saying “aw”.  If you’ve not read this author before this book is a great showcase of Ms. Holt’s work.  If you’ve not read this author’s books in a while, this is a great reminder of why you love her work.  Bad news is that I can’t find out if there’s going to be a book nine.  But it’s a good incentive to read any books, in this series, that you may have missed.

My Thoughts:

Delaney “Laney” Murphy doesn’t seem to have any luck picking men. Beck Townsend is a man who knows how to surprise a woman. One thing that impressed me was that this author takes on a hero that’s older than some that I’ve read lately. It also shows when it comes to being a hero - age is only a number.

Beck is ex-military and it was nice to see him in Delaney’s corner. I loved how the author had him looking for love. If you’re a reader that loves her military men then Beck will fill that bill for you. Maybe you’re into alpha males – he has that covered too. These two had me binge reading – I didn’t get to bed until I finished the whole thing.

I can relate to how Delaney feels about her mom – I had the same feelings about my own. When you can relate to a character it’s just one way that you see how talented this author is. One thing I loved was how the author created a support team for her. She made me wish that I had one of my own.

It didn’t take me too long to realize that this is a series that I need to follow. I start to feel that this may be a series that doesn’t need to be read in order – this could be read as a standalone. But then I remember that this is the first book. And that just means that I will definitely have to follow the series so I know if that is true or not. This author had me transfixed right from the beginning.

Ms. Munroe doesn’t drag any of her scenes out and none of the characters get too much time – which might have changed the tone of the storyline. As you read, you feel as if their lives are playing out right before your eyes. You’re able to picture everything going on before you.

I was investigating this author and to my surprise this is her first book. But upon further investigation she has two pen names Cynthia Garner Sherrill Quinn. So if you want to expand your reading horizons, and as you wait the next book in the Hot Desert Heroes Series comes out, you may want to do a little investigation of your own.
