“Trey” Lattimer III is interested in something from Harriet “Jane”
Terrance. Our author uses Trey as the
force that will keep you reading this short story. He is something of a mystery – one you will
find that you want to solve. Jane is a
woman that wants to be the best at her job.
I
found that this was a strange read but that didn’t stop me from keep
reading. Even the word weird comes to
mind. Maybe it was just my day but I
just couldn’t get into this story – I found it disconnected. Our main characters never seemed to have that
connection that we look for once they become a couple. The story ends with a happy ending which is
always a good thing.
I
do love to read this author but this is my least favorite of the ones that I
have read. Just because I didn’t like
this one story as much doesn’t mean that I won’t read her again. Also, just because I couldn’t connect with
the story doesn’t mean that you won’t.
Only you can decide.
Hook Me Up by Adele Downs
Lexi Wentworth starts our story off in quite the predicament. Knox Townsend is a man who takes his job very
seriously. It’s her predicament that
weaves their lives together. This is one
story where you can understand how the title of the anthology came about.
This story is all about the heat that ignites between these
two. You can see how their relationship
develops. I found that this author has
written a few books and if not for this anthology, I might never have
discovered her. I’m looking forward to
reading more of her work.
Slow Burner by Sam Cheever
Duncan Yves job has him coming into contact with an old
friend. Hilda Bennet has someone who’s
not very happy with her. This author
creates a mystery that will bring these two together. With any good mystery nothing is revealed too
early.
There will be times where you may find yourself wanting to hold
your breath just like any good suspense story does for its readers. This author created a story that had me
riveted from beginning to end. I just
could not put it down until I read the very last word.
What is great about an anthology is that the stories are short
enough that you can get them read in a short amount of time. And if you want, depending on your schedule
you can read more than one story in a day.
It’s a great way to rediscover some of your favorite authors or to
discover new ones. I think that you
definitely get your money’s worth when you pick up this set.
