My Thoughts:

Dash gives me an impression of an unseasoned professional.  Not quite like the movies and that shows a spark of realism.  Chrissy shows some of the hard choices that single parents sometimes have to make – another show of realism. 

 

Loved how the author seemed to play with our main character’s names – very creative.  This whole story showcases her imagination and sense of humor.  I think that if you’ve never read her books before than you’ll find this a great introduction.  Especially if you like an author that gets you to laugh.  She also seems to have a devilish streak.  Even though there are plenty of laughs our author creates something unique and at times very serious.  It’s one last piece of realism that has a concept that might be interesting to some that have lived in the “system”. 

 

This was one instance where I hated seeing the Table of Contents.  It shows that our time is fleeting but it was great while it lasted – which is great at this time of year.  I have one question for Ms. Robinson though – will we have something similar for Easter? 

About the Author:

Sarah Robinson first started her writing career as a published poet in high school, and then continued in college, winning several poetry awards and being published in multiple local literary journals. 

Never expecting to make a career of it, a freelance writing Craigslist job accidentally introduced her to the world of book publishing. Lengthening her writing from poetry to novels, Robinson published her first book through a small press publisher, before moving into self-publishing, and then finally accepting a contract from Penguin Random House two years later. She continues to publish both traditionally and indie with over 18+ novels to her name with publishers like Penguin, Waterhouse Press, Hachette, and more.

In her personal life, Sarah Robinson is happily married to the gentle giant of her dreams and the duo recently welcomed to the world their first baby, Norah Grace. They have a home full of love, snuggly dogs and cats, and are happily living in Arlington, Virginia.

My Thoughts:

Grant Mercer seems to have his work cut out for him.  Simone Reynolds is starting a new career.  She’s in a musical that I actually had the chance to see – I loved watching musicals growing up.  My problem comes when they do the live version.  I have certain expectations, having watched the original, and a lot of the live shows don’t meet them.  With this book I want to go back and watch Howard Keel and Kathryn Grayson – I may have had a crush on Mr. Keel growing up.  Once I finish the movie I would reread this book.

As I think about what I just said, I could picture Keel and Grayson as Grant and Simone.  That would be another reason to revisit the movie.  I wonder how they would feel about stepping into those roles.

There’s a reason that Grant is on U.S. soil and that mystery caught my attention.  I’ve never watched The Voice, and any of its competitors, but I can almost picture Simone as an ingénue.  We get to see her blossom as the story moves forward.  But Grant seems to say one thing and then goes off and does something else – maybe it’s because of the business they’re in.  It shows how crazy it can be.  Makes me glad that I never had any aspirations of being in the limelight.  But just like in true Hollywood fashion, things end happily for everyone.
