Paging Through The Days Presents: My Own Nightmare by Barb Shuler; #ComingSoon, #TeaserWednesday,

My Own Nightmare
Shatter Lives Series; Book 1
Genre: Suspense/Thriller

Blurb:

One night a life changed. My life.

I used to write about chaos – about lives turning on a dime. Never once did I think it would ever happen to me. I went from a blossoming career to a prisoner in the span of a single evening. A living nightmare I was determined to escape.

The price of evil was high, but I wasn’t backing down. I knew in my heart the men in my life would be looking. I just had to survive. One day at a time. Minutes turned to hours. Hours turned into days. Then, it was time to make a choice.
Live or Die?
I chose to live.

Hell hath no fury and I had no more time...

Maybe This Kiss by Jennifer Snow
Book 1 of the Colorado Ice series
Forever Yours, Grand Central Publishing
Release Date: November 1, 2016

— SYNOPSIS —

Love is always worth the risk . . .

Neil Healy was happy to be promoted to Air Force Lieutenant, but he's less than thrilled that the new job has brought him back to his hometown. The memories alone could kill a man, to say nothing of actually seeing the woman he never got over. Neil knew avoiding Becky Westmore would be impossible, but he didn't expect the chemistry between them to be as strong as ever.

All Becky wants this holiday season is to get through the month of December with her sanity intact. Not helping? Her ex-boyfriend's return to Glenwood Falls. Even after a decade apart, Neil still makes her feel in ways no other man has. But Christmas is a time for miracles, and maybe Becky's will be a second chance at first love.

“Need some help?”

The unexpected sound of a deep male voice made Becky jump and lose her balance once again on the wet floor. Two hands gripped her shoulders to steady her and she immediately wished he’d have let her fall. Feeling her cheeks on fire, she turned to face Neil.

His profile picture did not fully capture the hotness standing in front of her. Time had been far too good to him. The young, boyish face had been replaced by a rugged handsomeness that would turn more than one head in the small town, and she immediately felt a pang of irrational jealousy. His solid, square jaw with just the right amount of stubble had always been her weakness, and his dark brown eyes held a look of uncertainty mixed with a friendly familiarity as though no time at all had passed since she’d last gazed into them.

Becky folded her arms across her body, putting up a physical barrier to match the internal one that had immediately sprung up around her heart at the unexpected feelings spurred by the sight of her ex. “What are you doing here? How’d you get in?” Small town or not, she never left her door unlocked. After having a police officer for a husband, she’d known not to adopt a false sense of security.

“Your daughter let me in.” He surveyed the mess of the laundry room. “Washing machine problems?” he asked, removing his jacket to reveal a tight, black T-shirt haphazardly tucked into one side of a hip-hugging pair of denim.

“Oh no…it’s no…” She clamped her lips together. She couldn’t even remember the question. What was it about his big, muscular arms that turned her brain to complete mush?

Maybe the fact that she still remembered what it felt like to be wrapped up in them?

“Let me look,” Neil said, moving her away by her shoulders and stepping carefully into the two inches of water on the floor. It sloshed under his boots and soaked the frayed hem of his faded jeans.

Riding boots. He’d always talked about owning a motorcycle. An adrenaline junkie from an early age, he’d owned his first dirt bike at fourteen and the sight of him on it had done crazy things to her teenage hormones. She remembered sneaking out after curfew to ride on the back of it, holding on tight to him as they sped along the empty dirt roads at night, stopping to make out near the riverbank…“That’s not necessary. I got it under control.”

He ignored her. Opening the lid, he looked inside, then reached into the water, up to his biceps. Sexy, toned, still-tanned-from-the-Miami-sun biceps.

“Really, I’m sure you have places to be. I’ll call someone if it’s something I can’t fix on my own.” Since ending his pursuit of a hockey career, Jackson flipped houses for a living and was quite the handyman. He was her go-to for these kind of things.

“It’s okay. I’m here anyway,” Neil said, not sounding all too pleased about it.

Well neither was she. She certainly hadn’t been expecting a visit from the hottest man to ever leave her weak in the knees. And she definitely would not have invited him in and allowed him to see her messy laundry room. But here he was. Standing in two inches of water, his arm disappearing in her washing machine, looking like a sexy gift from handyman heaven.

And she was wearing Star Wars pajama pants and a holiday-themed sweatshirt featuring Grumpy Cat that said dashing through the snow…get the f*ck out of my way.

Not exactly the way one fantasizes about running into an ex.

She was going to have to have the “don’t open the door to strangers” talk with Taylor again.

“I think I found the problem,” he said, pulling a thin piece of black, lacy fabric from the machine. “These were wrapped around the agitator.” He opened the thong, stretching the thin waistband between his hands. “Nice.”

Her mortification obviously knew no bounds. She yanked them out of his hands and tucked the wet fabric under her arm. She’d worn them under duress earlier that week when she’d had nothing else clean. They were horrible. The lace, the string between her ass cheeks…She shuddered at the memory of how they’d ridden up past her jeans when she’d bent over at the grocery store to pick up an apple that had rolled off the fruit display table, and she’d caught the fifteen-year-old stock boy, Al, staring.

She should have burned them instead of washing them because she would never wear them again. “Thank you for discovering the problem,” she said through clenched teeth. “Even though I said I had it under control.”

He ignored her comment. “Why don’t you plug it back in and see if that fixes things?”

Well, another thong wouldn’t be caught in there, if that’s what he was hoping. A memory of the lingerie she used to wear for him flashed in her mind—matching bra and panty sets, one-piece teddies…The look in his eyes seeing her in those things had made her feel like the sexiest woman in the world. And the way he’d slowly remove the garments from her body had sparked a passion, an intensity, an undeniable need…

Her eyes met his now and she could see her own thoughts reflected in his expression. He glanced away quickly, but it was too late—she knew that look well. She wasn’t the only one struggling with the past.

She plugged in the machine and it hummed as it resumed its cycle as though nothing had happened. As if the ground beneath her feet hadn’t just trembled.

“Great,” Neil said. “Just FYI—You’re supposed to put those things in a garment washing bag.”

“Suddenly a connoisseur of women’s delicates?” Damn, that sounded jealous even to her ears.

“Twelve years is enough time for anyone to change.”

Was it? Then why did things feel so much the same when she looked at him? Too much time had passed, too much life had happened for both of them—she couldn’t claim to know the man he was now. Yet, her heart insisted it did.

Before she could say anything, his hands were on her face. Her eyes widened at the feel of the rough palms against her skin. She opened her mouth to speak, but his lips pressed against hers before she could process what was happening.

What was he doing? What was she doing? That was the better question as her arms circled his neck. And how did the sensation of his mouth on hers feel so damn familiar after all these years?

— SHORT EXCERPT —

"You cared, and you challenged me. You pushed me to want more for myself. You gave me a reason to fight for my life. And, that’s when I felt it—hope. I felt it instantly—the minute you walked in, and it scared the sh*t out of me."

— ABOUT THE AUTHOR —

Hello! I’m Kate Squires, and I write contemporary romance novels. Want to know a little bit more about me? Well, then keep reading!

Northeast Ohio, is where my life began and continues. I’m the only girl in my family of four older brothers, who lightheartedly tortured me as a child. My father was an avid reader, and was somehow able to watch TV, and read books simultaneously, without missing a beat. My mom loved to read as well, and was basically June Cleaver. Not that I am old enough to know who that is.

I met my husband, though I was sure he wasn’t the one for me. Through his ability to make me laugh in any situation, I found that my original assumptions were incorrect, and we married three years later. His romantic side is often the inspiration for some of the parts in my books. Together with our four crazy children, we fight and make up, which incidentally, is how some of my best fight scenes are written!

Aside from writing, I’ve held other steady jobs. They range from Dog Groomer, to Home Health Aide, Housekeeper to Dance Teacher. I’ve also been a foster parent to countless children, and a host mom to several foreign exchange students. So, when do I find time to write? In between bringing home the bacon and frying it up in a pan, of course!

I’ve published a series of contemporary romance novels. That Kiss, and its sequel, That Promise, I Will Catch You, and Tracing Hearts. That Kiss, That Promise, and I Will Catch You, are all available in paperback on Amazon, and for your e-reader at Amazon.com and Smashwords.com. Tracing Hearts is available on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited!

If you have any questions or just want to send me a message, please do! I love getting reader mail, and strive to answer every message. Don’t worry, I won’t bite.

Thanks for visiting. Come back soon!

Goodreads:

Jasmin Stallworth is very protective of her friends, Billy and Vicky.  The author starts the book off with a very intense scene – you will have no trouble seeing what’s going on.  But it could also be disturbing to some.  The author does turn the scene around so be patient.  It’s interesting to watch this author’s creativity unfold.

This story shows how the lives of these friends has changed since their less than stellar reunion.  We get to see how these three women handle the world around them.  I can’t say that there is one main character.  You have three distinct stories and it’s like getting three books for the price of one.  What draws these stories together is their connection to each other.

You won’t get shortchanged in the BDSM and sex department.  Personally, I think there was a little too much – I know, right!  I would have liked to see more character development.  The only way to change that would be to go back and see what book one, titled Pleasure, has to offer.  It just may give me more of an incite into the lives of these three ladies.  The ending leaves you feeling sad but it’s a great way to have the reader getting ready to see what’s going to happen next.

Excerpt:

Billie wasn’t in Miami for more than a month before she knew she had to move away again. She still felt in need of new scenery. But where to next? She mulled on it for a few days, but nothing jumped out. Jasmin had suggested Alaska, but Billie wasn’t in the mood for somewhere so cold. Then it hit her. She remembered a conversation with David, and it provided the exact inspiration she was looking for!
Oh, how she wished she could talk to him, but of course, she couldn’t. Instead, she did the only thing she could do, and went down to his burial site to connect with him. This wasn’t the first time that Billie visited David’s grave, but it was rare for her to do so. At the time of his death, she would have preferred to have him cremated, but David’s mother, a staunch Catholic, was adamant that her son have a traditional burial. Billie had conceded. It wasn’t that important to her. David was dead. That was all that really mattered at the time.
Yet now, almost four years later, she found herself glad that she let David’s mother have her way at the time. Billie was glad there was a place she could go to speak to his spirit. So much had happened since her last visit. Besides, she wanted to tell him her idea.
The Mount Pleasant Cemetery was a beautiful peaceful place with big oak trees lining each row of headstones. It was apparent that family members came by often as many of the sites were adorned with fresh-cut flowers. The grass was well manicured and the leaves cleaned up regularly. She drove there in her rental car and wiped away tears before even stepping out of the vehicle. Toughen up, she told herself.
When she got to his headstone, she sat down in the grass beside it. It was a warm sunny day with a light breeze, and the grass was free of any residual morning dew. She got comfortable with her legs crossed, and with no one in the vicinity, she decided to speak out loud.
“Hey sweetheart. I brought you my favorite flowers. I know you were never into flowers, so I brought you the ones you used to buy for me. Fresh daisies for you, my love. Don’t roll your eyes at me. How’s life in heaven? Can you see me from up there? I try to be strong for you. Some days if I think you might be watching down on me, I make sure not to cry. I know you hated seeing me cry. I wish I knew if you were watching me.

Excerpt:

Abigail Watson-
I knew there was a part of me that was different from most, if not all, of my girlfriends.
Sure, every girl dreams of a beautiful wedding. We all want to fall crazy-in-love with a cool, fun, smart, sexy, successful guy. I guess I wanted that too, in a way.  But I never saw myself as a Princess.  I never wanted to be fawned upon.  There was something a little different happening in my head.
Late at night, under the covers, in the private darkness of my bedroom, my fingers would wander, along with my thoughts.  The storyline wasn’t rooted in romance.  Instead, I would envision myself strung up from the ceiling, hanging by my wrists, body covered in sweat, tears falling on my breasts, while some man I cherished stood behind me with a whip.
The more the guys around me in college catered to me, the less interested I became. Don’t get me wrong, I like sweet attentive men – as friends, maybe. But guys like that just don’t excite me. To find one’s way into my late night fantasies, my suitor required an entirely different style.
I craved a strong unforgiving dominant that would put me in my place.

BOOK 2- STANDALONE

A Condo with Two Views
By: Al Daltrey
Release Date: January 6, 2015
Genre: Erotica BDSM

Synopsis:

Men and women see the world differently, as do dominants and submissives. A Condo with Two Views is told from two perspectives: Jack’s and Chloe’s. Jack is a loving and protective husband, but with a kinky penchant for sharing his willing wife. Chloe is smart and strikingly beautiful, and obeys every command from her husband, no matter how perverse. Each gives their view of the story: one where Chloe must submit to a grungy caretaker, a sexy lesbian couple, an evil developer, an older sadist, and the list goes on. But, what happens when she’s pushed too far? Is the deep love of a husband and wife more powerful than the bond of a dominant and submissive? What will win out, love or bdsm?

Excerpt:

Jacks View-
I’d say Chloe is the perfect wife. She’s beautiful, of course. She’s killer smart. I often tell her that she’s smarter than I am. If we have kids, I hope they take after her. Not only that, she’s insightful, she’s caring. Yes, at times she can be stubborn. Oh, I guess I should say she can also tolerate quite the spanking. I have to practically pry her safeword out of her when I’m laying into her ass with a paddle.
Outside of the bedroom she can stand her ground with anyone, me included. She’s no pushover. But in the bedroom, well let’s just say that behind closed doors, the love of my life turns into a complete and total slut. Make no mistake; my wife Chloe Walker is a submissive masochist: no wonder I love her so much.

Excerpt:

A thick envelope full of paperwork arrived the next morning. Having been delivered by a lawyer, she didn’t have to look inside to know what it contained.  The whole thing gave her an ugly feeling inside. The multi-national mining company that David had worked for, MGGP Minerals, had been more than fair. The accident happened on company time, while David was visiting a mining site that was on the verge of going into production. As a V.P., he had a lot of stock options, which had tripled in value during his tenure. He was also heavily insured both personally, and professionally. All told, Biljana Stevens was getting a settlement worth $6.4 million dollars. At only 28 years of age, it was enough that she didn’t have to work another day for the rest of her life.
She signed the series of documents, all the while thinking that she’d happily trade in every penny of the money, if she could just get David back. But life doesn’t work that way. Life charts its own course. You have some control over it, but barely. At best, you’re a backseat driver. You can make insistent suggestions and requests, but ultimately life takes you wherever the fuck it wants.
Biljana was now quite rich, but barely alive. Physically she was present, but emotionally she was vacant. She would lie awake most nights with no regulated sleep schedule. The only time she put on a brave face, was when her mother called from Seattle. “Oh, I’m okay Mom,” she would say, trying to sound upbeat. “I’m going to go for a nice long walk today.” In reality, this meant she was going to walk to the elevator, and then down to get the mail.  The color had left the sky in her world. Food tasted bland. Music became muzak. Movies helped simply because they had pictures and sound. Books were okay too, except oftentimes she’d have to re-read a page because her mind had drifted off somewhere else, as she lost track of the story.

By day I work in Marketing, which involves a fair amount of writing. Therefore, I never really had an interest to write for pleasure. When you do it all day, the last thing you want to do when you get home, is more writing. All the while, as my career progressed, so did my involvement in the BDSM lifestyle.

This interest in kinky sex started in my University years. Like most men, I loved meeting women, and especially the occasional one who didn't mind being tied up, or blindfolded, or spanked. All sex was great, but kinky sex was more exciting, more exhilarating, and more fulfilling.

Over the years I was lucky enough to meet my fair share of submissive women. And don't for a minute think these women were weak. Outside the bedroom they were confident, opinionated, gregarious and self-assured. However, inside the bedroom (so to speak) they wanted to feel the strong firm hand of a dominant man taking complete control.

Eventually I found the perfect partner, and am happily in a relationship.
