Synopsis:
I knew the risks of this job when I signed on with Jameson Force Security. Knew my time as a marine would prepare me for the danger I would face. But no amount of training could have ever prepared me for the helplessness of watching my teammates die, the agonizing mental and physical pain of torture, or the despair of captivity.
Returning home to Pittsburgh following a mission gone wrong, I am riddled with guilt and haunted by nightmares. I spend my days trying to regain the parts of myself I lost in that desert, the pieces that made me the Malik Fournier I once was. While the physical effects of my torture are fading, the emotional ones are proving much more stubborn and I find solace from the last person I should ever seek such comfort.
Anna Tate lost even more than I did in that mission. Now a widow and a single mom to the daughter she gave birth to shortly after her husband’s death, Anna offers me comfort I don’t deserve. As my feelings for Anna grow, I worry that once she learns the truth about what happened, she’ll turn her back on me.
I pull her to me just as tightly as I push her away. Hoping this forbidden love will save me from the ghost I’ve become.

My Thoughts:
Malik Fournier starts the mystery right out of the gate. One scene was pretty graphic which made me glad that I wasn’t eating anything at the time. His story will tug at your heart. Anna Tate is trying to be strong. Her story may be a little similar to Malik’s because it will also pull at your heart. Ghost sucked me in early on. It’s a perfect title since it glides so smoothly and effortlessly from scene to scene. The problem for me was pulling an all-nighter or going to sleep so I could get up the next day and go to work.
I’ll let you figure out which one I wanted and which one I got. You may just find yourself in the same pickle. I hope that this book will give you an incentive to check out the rest of this series if you aren’t already following. Maybe this will be the nudge you need to get that accomplished. If you like a story that evokes a lot of emotion than this is one will give that to you. This author creates the right combination to give her readers what they’re looking for and this series knocks it out of the park every single time.
First person is the best way to tell this story. We need to be able to hear Malik’s thoughts and understand what’s he’s feeling in certain situations. We’ll also need the same thing from Anna. We need to be able to feel the bond that starts to form. Getting it from someone else’s viewpoint would not give us the same impression. This was also a great way to catch up with the people that form this security team and it also left me wanting more. But I’m a little anxious because I have about four months to go.
