My Thoughts:
Vaughn Harris is the patriarch of the family and
it was nice to see his point of view here. But it made me
sad. Our authors warn us at the beginning of a book when it delves
into a sensitive subject. I think they need to do the same when a
story is going to require tissues – and I mean more than one. There
were times when I had to stop reading in order to “collect my
composure”. My heart really got touched with this
one. And it might be because some of it hit me personally – especially
since I’ve lost both my parents.
I have followed this series from the beginning
and am in love with the Harris Brothers and their sister. I can
almost compare myself to Pavlov’s dogs. Since I’ve listened to most
of the audiobook versions, I automatically hear the narrators talking in my
head. The issue then becomes, if these books were ever made into
movies, or a series, Will M. Watt would have to play all the male leads and
Charlotte Cole would have to do the female leads. But just like in the
movie franchises, I’ve come to expect these narrators to play certain parts.
This is no way a standalone. It carries on the story of Gareth Harris and
Sloan Montgomery from the book titled Surrender. It also carries on the stories of all the
Harris family. I tried to be upbeat
while reading this continuation but it was bittersweet. I felt as if I was a part of the family as
they get together to celebrate and reminisce.
And that was especially true when the girls all got together. This is
one time that I’m apprehensive as I get closer and closer to the ending.
Now I’m left in a void. I’m left happy at the ending but unsure of
what comes next. There are a couple of
good things that come out of this. The
author knows her job well so I know whatever she has in store for us will be
good. Another good think is that I can
either read or listen to the Harris stories whenever I want to. Maybe I’ll even watch a soccer/football game
or two.
