My Thoughts:

Ransom Thompson is a man who works with precision.  Stella Kepler knows to keep her head under pressure.  This may the first in a new series but you may find that Stella’s last name sounds familiar.  Her father works with the Moonshine Task Force.  One thing that I found interesting is that his story, Renegade, was also the first in his series.  If you haven’t read his book yet, you may want to go and check out what you missed.

They’re a little apprehensive about what happens should certain people find them out.  Part of that could be due to the fact that they’ve known each other for a while and we all know about fathers and their “little” girl.  It may be terrible of me but I loved to see them squirm.  I think that just makes them seem more human – something we can connect with.

It’s a great cuddle book.  Maybe it’s because I’m a dog person but our third main character just happens to be a dog.  I loved getting to know him and see how much he cares for his people.  And that’s why I wish that my cuddle buddy was still around.  But if you prefer a buddy that actually says something, you could go that route too.  Our author always goes the extra mile for her readers.  She takes the time to create an adventure and she’s very good at not letting it overtake the underlying main theme.  Plus we get just the right amount of the good stuff.  Yea, and I may have let out a chuckle or two.  I’m not afraid to admit that for most of the story I had a smile plastered on my face.  I can’t wait to see where our author plans on taking this series.  And I just may have to find the time to revisit Renegade.

Excerpt:

PROLOGUE

COLE

Have you ever been to a funeral where the preacher stands before the friends and loved ones of the deceased and talks about how shitty the person was? How he fucked around on his wife? Or spent his family’s life savings to feed his gambling addiction? How about during his bachelor party when he snorted coke off a hooker’s ass?
Me neither.
Why is it that we’re fucking saints the moment we die?
You hear the preacher say things like, “Oh, John Smith was a lovely man who loved his wife and kids,” when he should really be saying, “John Smith was a worthless piece of shit who fucked the underage babysitter every chance he fucking got while his wife was busy working two jobs and raising his ungrateful children.”
And let’s not forget that the deceased in that casket before you never even went to church. Let alone knew the preacher who speaks so highly of him. All he knows are the stories the blinded loved ones wrote down on a little card for him to share.
He’s a fucking puppet.
I haven’t read the Bible word for word, but I know the Lord says if we confess our sins and ask for forgiveness, he will cleanse our souls, and we will be forgiven.
Poof. It’s like magic.
Now that begs the question–what if you’re not sorry? What if you don’t care to be forgiven?
No amount of holy water could cleanse my soul, and I’m okay with that because when I sinned, I understood that I would one day have to pay. We’re all going to die eventually. You can be one of those people who bury your head in the sand to avoid talking about it all you want, but it’s life!
Live or die.
Heaven or hell.
Angel or devil.
It’s black and white. There are no gray areas.
So tell me ... when you’re lying in that casket in front of your friends and family, what are they going to think of you? Are they gonna believe that preacher who talks bullshit, or are they gonna know you didn’t care if you were going to burn for
eternity?
I’m not a religious person. Obviously. But I do know this. When I am damned to hell, it’ll be because I fucking earned it.

Blurb:

I’ve never been able to say no to my manager, which is probably why my band instated the No Bang Oath. When she asks me to star on a new reality dating show right before we go on tour, the last thing I want to find is love.  But since it was Kylie who asked, I say yes. Besides, I can’t turn down the exposure for my band.

As I forge connections with the women—including the show’s hostess—I can’t seem to shake Kylie out of my head. When I find myself at the center of a scandal, I don’t know what’s worse: the bad press or the disappointment in Kylie’s eyes.

How do I prove I’m not just another rock star before I hit the road with one of the biggest bands in the world?

My Thoughts:

Dax Hunter isn’t happy about the position he’s been put in.  It’s all about getting ahead – which didn’t earn any brownie points with me.  He feeds into my perception that some men in his profession like to have their cake and eat it too.  But he does have a somewhat redeeming quality but since it’s for his benefit I’ll have to sit on the fence for a while, even though it might get a little cold, as I watch the story progress.  Especially when I turn around and he has me feeling sorry for him.

One disappointment I had was that I couldn’t listen to his band play as I read.  Not sure playing one of my all time favorite bands, Queen, in the background will have me thinking about MFB.  A playlist is mentioned but it’s part of a scene.  So I would say to think about what you can imagine the type of music his group might play and then create a playlist around that.

I liked how the author mashed up some reality shows to add a little spice to Dax’s life.  It gave me a few chuckle moments.  I loved seeing him squirm – doesn’t take much to make me happy.  Our author waits to get her readers involved with her reality show before she starts having him even begin to think of love or that elusive happily every after.  She stars out by including pictures and information about some of the extras.  It was a great way to get us involved – just like the television show.  Full disclosure, I hate that show – always have.  But by starting it later in the story was good for me.  If you’re of the same mind as me it may be for you too.

The author leaves us guessing as to what Dax’s present and future holds.  On the opposite end, she gives me the sense of how everything seems staged – which is what I felt about the actual show.  I liked how she didn’t give him a big personality because as you get to know him that just wouldn’t seem to fit.  You may have noticed that I didn’t mention a love interest.  In the spirit of the reality show I’m not going to mention a name.  Just like The Bachelor you will have to watch to see how things turn out after the show is over.
