Fleeing an unwanted engagement, a young harpist follows her music passion to London. Becoming entangled with a handsome violinist who seems too aristocratic for a working-class musician may be more problematic than dodging her erstwhile fiancé, sleeping in the streets, or staying alive when a madman targets her for murder.

Snippet:

Kit joined the waif claiming to be a harpist in the back of the orchestra pit. After rosining his bow and tuning his violin to her harp, he waited for her to warm up with a series of scales and arpeggios. A few moments later, he pointed to a spot in her music. “Alex wants to hear you play our duet in the second act.”
She fixed large eyes on him. “Our duet?”
“It’s for harp and violin, and I’m the principal violinist,” he explained.
She nodded, swallowed, and took a deep breath. “Whenever you are ready, sir.”
“I’m ready.”
She wiped her hands on her skirts and moved the pedals to put the harp into the correct key. The girl placed her fingers on the strings. And played.
Kit was so thunderstruck by the skill and beauty issuing forth from the instrument that he barely remembered to come in at the right time. Quickly, he raised his violin to his chin, lifted his bow, and closed his eyes. They played together. All the world—all noise, other performers, the audience entering—all else faded away. Kit and his violin, and the girl with her harp, were the only creations in the universe. Together, they produced magic. His soul sang as loudly as his violin.  As the last notes of their duet faded away, Kit let out his breath and swallowed the knot in his throat.
Such beauty and passion. This little waif was a true musician. In all his five and twenty years, he had never heard her equal.

Kit lowered his violin and clutched his bow. Meeting her gaze, he smiled. “Brava.”

Instead of replying, she swung his hand. “We live in a small world. Remember that children’s song ‘It’s a Small World’?” Tara sang a few lines. “Stop me before I take a sentimental journey.”
Kissing the top of her head, he hugged her to his side. He’d never met a woman like her.

It was a cold December eve, some say the coldest in decades, and a blizzard warning was in effect. It was the Friday before Christmas and most of the other workers of Kennedy and Crane had already left for the Christmas holiday weekend.

Samantha looked at the clock and groaned inwardly. It was after 8 o’clock and her boss was in an extra foul mood even for her.
“Shouldn’t you be getting home to put on that awesome Chanel dress you bought for the big night?”  She asked.

Macy spun around enraged, and Samantha sunk back.  Macy’s dark brows
knit together and her brown eyes looked nearly black with the size of her pupils. She ran her hands through her short dark hair and then stared at Samantha with disbelief on her face.

“I got a text from Todd an hour ago. He’s gone off to LA with some friends for Christmas!”  Samantha’s mouth fell open. “What, why?” She stopped herself. “I’m sure he has a good reason Macy.”
Macy snorted. “Yeah, good reasons usually don’t come in a text. I’m losing him Sam.”

Macy plopped down in her chair and stared out the large picture window of her sleek office, and tapped her long manicured nails on her desk like a woodpecker.
“Says he’ll call me when he gets back…in a month.”
Samantha’s groaned inwardly. Poor Macy, it looked like she was getting the ultimate big let down. Broken up with at Christmas. No engagement celebration after all.

“Here’s a piece of mail you didn’t get.” Sam offered up happily as she placed it on Macy’s desk.

“Send it back.”  Macy said dully without turning.

Samantha continued hopefully. “It’s not the annual Christmas invite from your mother Macy, that one is always in a red envelope. I always send that

back. This is something different.”
Samantha looked at the pretty Tiffany blue colored envelope.
“It’s addressed to you personally, not the company.”
Macy cocked her head to the side intrigued.
Sam rushed on eager to bring some sort of happiness to her boss. “Maybe it’s a love letter from Todd with two tickets to Paris for when he gets back?”
Macy let out a big huff and gazed out the window at the oncoming storm. They both knew that wasn’t the case. Todd’s last minute text was just a breakup in disguise.
But if not Todd then who? Macy really didn’t have any close friends that would send her a Christmas card. Anyone that did know her at all, knew she abhorred Christmas.
Too much money being spent in the name of sentimentality and tricky marketers as her father always said.

Macy waved her hand without looking back at Samantha as if she were a servant.
     “Read it.”
Samantha scanned the letter, then suddenly, caught her breath and brought her hand to her heart.
“Macy.  Something in Samantha’s tone made Macy spin her chair around.
    “What?”
“Its from a friend of your mothers, a Ms. Carol Landers.”
“You have got to be kidding me!” Macy threw her hands up in the air.  Now my mother is having her friends beg me to come home and visit her? How utterly selfish!”
She shook her head in disbelief. “What is it with my mother? She ruins my life and then she stalks me! Can’t she see no matter how many times she begs me to come home for Christmas - I’m not going to Kissing Bridge to see her?”
Samantha swallowed uncomfortably and croaked out, “I’m so sorry Macy. But this letter says that your mother passed away yesterday, and you’re the only relative left to claim her body.”
She looked up sadly and met Macy’s stunned eyes.
“You have to go home to Kissing Bridge.”

Lady Amber's Reviews & PR Presents: Harlequin August Recommended Reads; #BlogTour, #NowAvailable, #OutNow, #Review

Disclosure of Material Connection:  I received a copy of The Greek's Bought Bride for review from Lady Amber’s PR and the author.  I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review.  The opinions I have expressed are my own.  I am posting this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255:  "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising".

Title: Craving His Best Friend’s Ex
Series:  The Wild Caruthers Bachelors
Author: Katherine Garbera
Genre: Romance
Harlequin Imprint: Desire
Hosted by: Lady Amber’s PR

Blurb:

Until now, Crissanne Moss has been off-limits. As his best friend’s significant other, she is Ethan Caruthers’s friend, too. So he’s always snuffed out any spark between them. Now Crissanne is single and seeking comfort. Ethan is happy to give her all she needs—and desires. But can their friendship truly become more when one explosive revelation changes everything?

Katherine Garbera is the USA Today best-selling author of more than 90 books. Writing is the chief focus of her time after her family and the only thing she likes more than working on her own books is reading other authors. She is a frequent speaker at conferences and loves the opportunity to talk about writing with anyone who'll listen.

Garbera started making up stories for her own benefit when she was on a competitive swim team in high school. Though she went to State and usually medaled at swim meets, Katherine says her heart wasn't in swimming but rather in the stories she created as she swam laps at practice.

She worked for The Walt Disney World Company for 15 years and did everything from being a hostess on It's a Small World, to saving swimmers at the Grand Floridian Resort, to touring around VIPs such as Jack Valenti at the Disney-MGM Studios and being a production page on the New Mickey Mouse Club--yes, it might be possible that Britney, Justine and Christina owe her a nod of thanks for keeping all those kids who had to go to the bathroom from interrupting their performances.

Title: The Greek’s Bought Bride
Series:  Conveniently Wed!
Author: Sharon Kendrick
Genre: Romance
Harlequin Imprint: Presents
Rating:  4.5 Stars

Blurb:

Tamsyn lost her innocence in a spectacularly sensual night with a Greek billionaire. She didn’t expect to see notorious playboy Xan again, until he proposes a marriage of convenience! It’s hard to refuse when he’s promising incredible wealth, and her pregnant sister desperately needs support, but Xan is dangerously addictive… If Tamsyn isn’t careful, she could lose herself to the Greek—for good!

My Thoughts:

Alexandros “Xan” Constantinides is a man who’s very observant.  He seems to have an attitude about people that are socially below him.  He’s one arrogant S.O.B.  Tamsyn Wilson is on her way to a celebration.  Something I loved about Tamsyn was how she turned Xan’s attitude around onto him.  The author did such a great job with that scene that I could almost here her talking in my head.  One thing she didn’t seem to have was luck.

Xan’s attitude just had a habit of rubbing me the wrong way.  He seems so cynical especially when it comes to women.  And that couldn’t have been more evident that after one of their conversations.  Do you like stories where the main characters appear to hate/not like each other?  Do you like stories where marriage becomes a necessity?  Maybe you just like the Harlequin imprint.  Maybe you’re already following the Conveniently Wed! Series.

I love books where I get to be transported somewhere else.  It’s not required that I get in my car and drive somewhere.  I don’t need to take a boat or a plane and I can even wear my pajamas if I so choose.  All I really need, besides the book obviously, is a comfortable seat.  One disappointment I did have here was in not having read Tamsyn’s sister’s story first.  You don’t need to have read it first but I feel it will give you some idea as to how the beginning of this story comes to be.  And to let you know, it’s not part of this series but the One Night With Consequences.  I’ll let you figure out how much I liked this story with the fact that it took me a few hours to figure out what book belonged to Hannah Wilson.

Summer is coming to an end so you may find yourself getting busy or getting ready to go on vacation.  You may be a bookaholic like me and look forward to your next read.  But you need something that’s either not too long or isn’t going to take you all day to read.  Once I got into this story, it only took me a couple of hours to get from beginning to end.  The only issue I had is I started it on one day but stupid me started it more toward the end of the day.  So I had to put it down and then pick it back up the next day.  Once I got back into what was going on between our main characters I couldn’t put it down or bother with whatever program was on TV – and thank goodness my phone didn’t ring.

To the horror of my parents, I left school at sixteen and held a bewildering variety of jobs: I was a London DJ (in the now-trendy Primrose Hill), a decorator and a singer. After that I became a cook, a photographer and, eventually, a nurse. I waitressed in the south of France, drove an ambulance in Australia, saw lots of beautiful sights but could never settle down. Everywhere I went I felt like a square peg--until one day I started writing again and then everything just fell into place. I felt like Cinderella must have when the glass slipper fit!

Today, I have the best job in the world, writing passionate romances for Harlequin. I like writing stories which are sexy and fast-paced, yet packed full of emotion--stories that readers will identify with, laugh and cry along with.

My interests are many and varied--chocolate and music, fresh flowers and bubble baths, films, cooking and trying to keep my home from looking burglarized! Simple pleasures--you can't beat them!

I live in Winchester, one of the most stunning cities in the world, but don't take my word for it--come see for yourself! I regularly visit London and Paris. Oh, and I love hearing from my readers all over the world...so I think it's over to you!
