My Thoughts:

Phoebe is trying to cope with what she’s been through.  Liam is having to deal with a shock that has rocked his world.  A tragedy that no one should have to bare starts this story off and it shows how fragile life can be.  It’s also something that is dealt with in real life.  It shows how things can consume us, and not in a healthy way.

Drama from the first book continues here which is just proof not to start a duet with the second.  Even though a work of fiction, this story may have some of you connecting with your past and how you may have been treated.  Just like in the first book, I still had the sense of the film Mean Girls.  But is this where the tide begins to turn and the school dynamic changes?

This part of the duet brings up lots of emotions – both good and bad.  There are even some that can be really hard to read about.  It seemed like their world is falling apart and we have front row seats.  What I liked was how the author turned things around before anything got too dark.  For some, it might be upsetting but some people know how to turn themselves around before they let the darkness fill their heart.  That doesn’t mean that the author isn’t going to continue with the twists and turns.  That’s what kept me turning the pages.  With such a creative mind, I wanted to know what she was going to come up with next.  And her Epilogue was a pleasant surprise.

My Thoughts:

Liam does what he has to in order to get by.  He makes an outrageous suggestion to his buddies.  Phoebe has family pressures that are weighing her down.  It doesn’t matter if you’re rich or poor, bullies are going to be there.

Even though this is a work of fiction, the author has a secondary character have an idea and I could see that playing out in the real world.  Her story seems to be a cross between Oliver Twist and Mean Girls.  It was like getting into the minds of those who you weren’t cool enough to associate with.  And it shows to what lengths some people will go to in order to get out of their current situation.  

For the most part, it was watching these young adults work their way through the school year.  Including all the plotting, snide remarks, and not knowing what kind of trouble they may get themselves into.  Any thoughts of romance were secondary.  It was like reading a year in the life.  But then you realize that year isn’t over yet and now you have to wait for the next chapter to begin - or in this case, the next book.

Around ten minutes later I heard the front door open. “I’m in the living room,” I shouted.

She pushed open the door and began stripping out of her clothes, discarding them to the floor until she remained in a black lacy bra and G-string. My eyes soaked up every inch of her skin.

She walked over to the sofa and put her hands on the back of it.

A slow, lazy smirk came over my face. “How wet are you for me?”

“Soaking. I need you inside me right now.”

“Bring yourself off.”

“What?” Miss Feisty was back.

“Bring yourself off.”

“No. Get over here and fuck me already.”

Standing up from the chair, I slowly walked over to her, standing behind her.

“Now strip,” she commanded.

I went in my pocket, took out the switchblade I carried around with me and I flicked the lever. I showed her the knife before holding her hair in my fist again, pulling her head back and holding the blade to her throat.

But she didn’t scream or beg me to let her go. She just stayed there, her breathing heavy.

“Still think you’re in control?” I asked.

“You’re going to fuck me. We both know it. So, yes, I still am.” She defied me with her words. I moved the knife and slit through her bra strap, so it fell off her shoulder. Then I did the same to the other. Finally, I turned her to face me, slitting through the centre of the bra, so the material fell onto the floor in a drift of lace. Turning the knife around, I ran the end of the handle down between the valley of her breasts, trailing it down to her panties. Over her mound. Her breath hitched as it dipped between the valley of her thighs, touching her most intimate places. I turned the knife and cut through both sides of her panties, so the material fell away, leaving her completely naked.
