Claiming Catherine
Montana Maiden Series, Book 1
Audible by Vanessa Vale
Date of Publication: November 7, 2014
Blurb
Branded a harlot for undoing a confining button on her blouse, Catherine Langton finds herself rejected by the man she is to marry, leaving her in a predicament: mail order bride or the poorhouse. Her decision is simple, and she arrives in Liberty, Montana, to marry a man she's never seen, her only desire to be a pleasing wife.
Jake Bridger exceeds Catherine's expectations at first glance. He looks as if he stepped from the pages of the Western romances she knows she shouldn't read. But she's about to find out that the men of Liberty are not like other men. Here, a wife is expected to make all of herself available to her husband, even parts a good girl like Catherine never expected a man to plunder. It's not an easy adjustment, but Jake isn't a man to take no for an answer, and he sets about training his new bride using techniques that soon have Catherine wantonly eager for his attentions.
But can Catherine live with her new husband's explicit requirements when it opposes everything she's known?
If you're looking for a smoking-hot Western that breaks the mold, then this first book in the Montana Maidens Series won't leave you just satisfied but eagerly awaiting the continuation of the sexiest, most wildly explicit adventure to hit the open range of publishing in a very long time.

My Thoughts:
What made the experience of listening to Claiming Catherine the most enjoyable?
It's not hard to get lost in the story. Made my commute much more enjoyable. It was nice to get lost in the past and forget the present for a little while. Had me looking forward to seeing what the author has in store for her readers in book two.
What did you like best about this story?
This story packs a lot in just a few hours. It brings a spin on the mail order bride from America's history - very erotic. Lauren Sweet did a great job of bringing Catherine to life.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It didn't make me laugh or cry but there were times where you had to feel sorry for Catherine. It's sad when men feel that they have to use artificial means in order to get what they want from a woman. But that just plays into the mindset where we don't think a lot of men back then were very smart. This proves that wrong.
Any additional comments?
One thing I liked was having the two narrators. It adds a little extra to my listening pleasure. My only issue was with narrator Brian L. Hunter - he brings my brother to mind. You don't want to think of your brother reading you such a hot read - ew factor. And that was one reason that I had a hard time envisioning the Jake Bridger character as hot. I think that the author did a great job in creating a town that may have actually existed during that time period. The Dom/sub lifestyle had to start somewhere - why not here. This was a story where earbuds were a blessing because this is not a book for little ears or having coworkers eavesdropping on.
