Lily-May, wife of Detective Murray and mother to beautiful Callie, tragically goes missing, with her daughter witnessing the ordeal, but unable to save her mother from the captor's grip. Will Callie be able to live with herself?
A mystery as to where she is or how she got there and to stay alive, Lily begins a new life pretending to be someone else. Will she ever be found, or will her captor carry out the unthinkable when he learns her true identity?
Back home, Lily's husband and daughter have been left to pick up the pieces. While both suffer immeasurable pain and emptiness, Callie believes she has seen her mother on a number of occasions but has been too scared to tell her dad who, unbeknownst to her, has witnessed his own sightings of this same woman.
Has Lily returned, or is it her ghost back to haunt her daughter and husband?
My Thoughts:
Darren seems to be a little confused.
But what’s confusing is how he tries to go about fixing a problem of his
own making. Murray’s job seems to be
solving mysteries. Until a personal
tragedy rocks his world. Callie is
Murray’s daughter. She shows that even
though a tragedy may have happened years ago, it can sometimes feel like it was
only yesterday. Lily is in a situation
based on what she looks like.
For me, this read like one of those psychological thrillers that sucks
you in as you try to figure out what’s going on. The author has created a character that may
have mental issues – I don’t have the professional background to diagnosis his
issue(s) but the author has done such a great job of creating his scenes that
you will have no trouble in recognizing that he’s a man in need of professional
help. She also has put a face to the victims
of kidnapping. It may be the person that
has gone missing but it’s the family members as well. They live with the pain of loss, as days and
years go by without their loved one, and a small hope that they will be
returned eventually.
It’s like getting more of an insight into what we see on the news when
a woman has been kidnapped. Take for
example the three women that were rescued from Ariel Castro. We watched the news for days watching how
these women were found. Listening to
them tell us about their ordeal. It may
have been hard to listen to and watch but we still did. More things like this are being reported on
the news. This book, gets you right
inside from the moment that Lily was kidnapped.
The author bounces back and forth from the past to the present. She lets you know which character is speaking
to you and whether it’s from the past or present so you will not get lost.
I won’t lie to you that this was a hard book to read. Because always in the back of your mind is
what we see in the news. In a way it
does give you a reference point but it still does not make it any less
disturbing. I did have to put it down at
times and go off and think about something else but it is also a wakeup
call. In this day and age you need to be
aware of your surroundings and to never give up hope. This book didn’t come with a happy ending but
it is a story that will be continued next summer. I still have hope that things will be better
for Lily and her family but we will just have to wait and see.
