My Thoughts:
Peyton seems to be emotionally broken. You may be able to connect with her in one small way. Xander doesn’t like hearing the word “hero”. He’s dealing with a heavy heart so you may want to check out his brother’s story in The Trouble With You.
This is a book that got me thinking. How many times have you been hurting but put up a front around the people in your life? That you say those two words they want to hear whether it’s true or not. The author seems to know what a person in a lot of mental anguish will say and feel.
It was one of the toughest reads for me. It was like watching two trains and you couldn’t look away even if a train wreck was about to happen. There’s a lot of emotional pain coming off the page and maybe a little too much for some. For the longest time, I felt that we were reading two separate stories but Peyton’s felt more important. The author does a good job at interweaving the two when the time is right. It makes sense since they have more than one connection.
I had no choice but to keep reading because I became worried for Peyton and wanted to see that the author found some way of turning her world around. Xander has a family that cares but you almost feel like he seems to think he has to fight his demons alone. This story is definitely a page-turner because if you don’t make it to the end then you won’t find out if our two stories ever become one. And you won’t find out whose story is next.
Author of over thirty mature young adult and new adult novels, LA COTTON is happiest writing the kind of books she loves to read: addictive stories full of teenage angst, tension, twists and turns.
Home is a small town in the middle of England where she currently juggles being a full-time writer with being a mother/referee to two little people. In her spare time (and when she’s not camped out in front of the laptop) you’ll most likely find LA immersed in a book, escaping the chaos that is life.
