Once upon a time...
A dark King ruled New York.
I used to believe in fairy tales until one winter night, a rival mob set my world on fire. I'm Roza Ivanov, the young prized Mafia Princess of the Russian Solntsevskaya Bratva, the Pakhan's daughter.
My happily ever after never came.
It wasn't prince charming that came for me, but the Mad King himself. The brutal Italian's dark beauty is violent and wicked. This is my life sentence for my father's sins. I must atone for a debt claimed because he always collects.
The monster claims I destroyed his reality, now he challenges my sanity.
My outspoken mouth gets me in trouble, and the bruises he gives me have become too frequent on my fair flesh, leaving scars behind. The people around me look away as my innocence is shed until one stare lingers.
Bodyguards are meant to be protectors, not lovers.
One beauty. Two beasts. Three lives. One love.
Welcome to New York's Underworld.
Goodreads:
Author posts a trigger warning that you want to make sure to read.
Enzo has to take over the family business. His heart seems cold but can it be thawed. Roza saw quickly how cruel some people can be. She may be frightened by her situation but that doesn’t stop her from fighting for her family.
If you get queasy easily, the author gets very descriptive. Either her stories are getting increasingly graphic or my mind is just getting better at visualization. I couldn’t look away for long because I had to know what was coming in the next scene.
I think this has to be the darkest of the series to date. If you like a twisted story then you just might like to check this story out. Maybe you like main characters that when you first start the book, you can in no way picture them ever ending up as a couple. But somehow the author finds the right recipe that makes everything work even if it’s not what you expected. It may be dark, and maybe I’ve watched too much reality crime shows, but this is a series that I’ve been come addicted to.
Our author knows how to tease both her characters and her readers. She certainly knows the right moment to create enough heat that I have to wonder if my e-reader is getting warmer or if it’s just my imagination. She gave me twists that I had no way of guessing they would come and leave me actually not wanting to get to the ending. I wanted time to slow down so I could take my time reaching for the point where the author wraps things up. But I was happy to see that this series is not over yet. And better yet, I don’t have to wait too long.
