My Thoughts:
Gracie, Ryan and Liam are all good friends. But sometimes things fall apart. The author will surprise you – which is a
good thing. You think it’s going to read
as a YA but she has some scenes that make you realize that it’s not.
Almost
from the beginning, you realize that this book is like a good mystery – you
have a hard time figuring out what’s going on until the author finally reveals
all. She’s very good at building
anticipation. She also shows that
secrets can hurt people. But one thing
about secrets is that you may never know what it is - which you will learn when
you get to the ending. Is it a happy
ending? Do the three end up going back
to being friends? Or does the author amp
up the anticipation and leave the reader wondering if there’s going to be a
book two?
Our
three main characters are seniors in high school and one thing that surprised
me was when the author broached the subject of underage drinking. Only you can decide if you are comfortable
with that but also realize that the subject doesn’t consume the whole story. On the plus side, the reader will never
realize that this is a short story. The
scenes are not rushed and the story isn’t choppy. It was a great way to find a new author to
follow. I look forward to seeing what
she has in store for her readers next.
