You want some?
She snarls those words at him with barely concealed hostility the moment he arrives at her window to ask for her license and registration.
After a few choice words, he lets her go with not one ticket, but three.
Next time she should check the attitude at the door and realize that he’s a cop, and just doing his job.
Come get some.
Fast forward a week, and he’s still unable to think about anything else but her and her bad attitude—oh, and those sexy lips, angry eyes, and her promise to make his life hell.
Knowing he should stay away, he takes a step back and tries not to think about anything that has to do with those long legs, and that mouth that could be used for much better things than spewing venom.
Then she makes a mistake.
At an interview, she rattles off a random number to use as a reference for a job that she desperately needs, and that number just happens to be Johnny’s.
She’ll regret being so rude, and one day she’ll think twice when she decides to throw attitude toward a man like him.
Vowing to make her life hell, he decides to have a little fun.
Never get enough.
What he doesn’t expect is to fall for her.
The more Johnny learns about June, the deeper he digs his hole. Soon, he doesn’t know which way is up, and he’s just fine with that.
Over time, he learns that not everyone bothers to dig past her prickly demeanor and get to the woman that lives deeper.
When one too many citizens of Hostel, Texas tries to back her against the wall, he’s had enough.
After all, you don’t mess with what’s his.
This is not the time to skip the Dedication. It’s totally one of a kind.
Before I even start the book, I see a list of other titles by our
author. I say to myself, “I’m going to
be very busy”. Especially when I see her
up and coming titles. As well as having
to catch up on this series and the tie in series.
Johnny Mackenzie had a lot to bear recently. June Carter Common is having a rough time of
it. You realize how tough it is to get
away from your past – or even your parent’s past. There’s a reference to a famous couple who
just so happen to sing. So the decision
has to be made as to whether music will play in the background as you read.
Johnny may not like it, and June might not either, but he seems to
be a knight in shining armor. He’s there
when June seems to need it the most.
Although when they first meet that might be a little hard to see. But it’s not hard to see that there are
people willing to give her a chance and not put a label on something that has
nothing to do with who she is as a person.
Something I didn’t realize is that this is tied to one of our
author’s other series, the Dixie Wardens. So my personal preference would be to figure
which Dixie child matches and read back and forth between parent and
child. One thing this book did do for me
was give me the chance to just sit back and enjoy. There’s no insta’ love so we get to see the
relationship develop over time – time for me to put my feet up, relax, and do
my favorite activity.
Sometimes you like setting the mood when you sit and read but
being that I’m reading this during the summer I don’t know that I want to
travel to Texas – unless I find a nice piece of beach real estate where I can
park my chair. One thing I’ll have to remember is to pack is a box of
tissues. Johnny gave me that “aw” moment
as we get toward the end of his story – a very romantic moment. June makes a profound statement when it comes
to family and I wanted to say “you’re right about that”. Their story may have had an ending but it
felt more like a beginning.
