Don't miss the next chapter in the New York Times bestselling series from Marie Force! Read the electrifying romantic suspense novel that everyone is talking about!
It's just another day at the office for Washington Metro Police lieutenant Sam Holland when a body surfaces off the shores of the Anacostia River. But before Sam can sink her teeth into the new case, Secret Service agents seize her from the crime scene.
A threat has been made against her family, but nobody will tell her anything—including the whereabouts of her husband, Vice President Nick Cappuano. This isn't the first time the couple's lives have been at risk, but when a bombshell from Sam's past returns to haunt her, she can't help but wonder if there's a connection.
With a ruthless killer out for vengeance, and Nick struggling to maintain his reputation after secrets from his own past are revealed, Sam works to tie the threat to a murder that can't possibly be a coincidence. And she has to get it done before her husband's career is irrevocably damaged…
Sam Holland Cappuano is having trouble dealing with things on her own. Some may find her language crass but it gives me a laugh and shaking my head. Add in her interactions with her partner and I need to put out the Do Not Disturb sign.
This is like watching an episode of Law & Order – all it needs is some intro music. I can almost hear the characters talking in my head as the scenes go by. You can hear the emotion; feel the tension and frustration these characters feel. And just like the tv series, you’ll find yourself getting hooked on this series and may continue to follow and see what this author has in store for Sam. The enjoyment of this story was all about the mystery and suspense. Having a little romance wasn’t a bad thing and breaks things up when it seems like a scene is getting too dark and there’s a happy ending – just not a series end.
One thing about this book is that you could consider it a standalone. I had no trouble following along and didn’t feel that I was missing anything. But there was a certain situation that occurred that had me wondering what I might have missed by starting here. One good thing about a series is that are books that have come before so it’s a good way to learn more about Sam, her family, friends, and coworkers. And what better series to pick up when that Do Not Disturb sign gets put out.
