Hey all you romantic suspense fans out there! Julie Ann Walker here, celebrating the release of the fourth book in my bestselling Deep Six series, DEEPER THAN THE OCEAN, by sharing with you my eight favorite lines from the book.
Without further ado, here we go!
1) “Did you binge eat asshole flakes this morning?”
2) But she insisted all she wanted from him was friendship. Friendship... Never in his life had that word sounded more wretched than the day it came out of her pretty mouth.
3) Tough and tender don’t have to be mutually exclusive. He’d taught her that.
4) Just as she’d know it would, one corner of his mouth hitched up. That beautiful mouth that tasted like damnation and salvation all at once.
5) “That man is a downed power line. He looks harmless, but get too close and he’s capable of causing you pain like you wouldn’t believe. The kind of pain that cracks you wide open. You can heal from it, but you’ll always carry the scar.”
6) “There are no guarantees in love. That’s what makes it so precious. And what makes it worth it.”
7) “When all is said and done, we only regret the chances we didn’t take, the love we were afraid to feel, and the ones we let slip away.”
8) “You crazy woman, don’t you know a life spent with the one you love is the greatest adventure of all?”
There are dozens more I could share; I love this book so much. But I’ll let you grab a copy and determine which lines are your favorites. Cheers, and happy reading!
Praise for Julie Ann Walker's Deep Six Series:
"Hot men, hot action, and hot temperatures make for one hot romance!"— BookPage
"Walker blends the tender romance of a reassuring touch with lusty sex scenes... Readers will be panting."— Publishers Weekly
"Julie Ann Walker and her SEALs serve up spicy fare...an exciting, spellbinding story."— Long and Short Reviews
Ray “Wolf” Roanhorse took one look at Chrissy and knew she was the woman of his dreams. There’s a hitch, however. He screwed things up with her. Big time. Now all she wants is to be friends. He’ll have to be his most charismatic and charming self if he has any hope of changing her mind. And winning her heart.
Christina Szarek knows all about sexy, brooding men like Wolf. She grew up watching her mother fall for – and be broken by – plenty of them. If she had her way, she’d avoid Wolf altogether. But they’re partners in the hunt for the Santa Cristina’s legendary treasure. Avoidance is impossible. And the longer she’s near him, the more he chips away at the walls she’s erected against him.
The danger to Chrissy doesn’t only come from her burgeoning feelings, however. There are mysterious players who would see her silenced – for good. And Wolf, with his wicked grin and spec-ops training, is all that stands between her and a date with death in the deep.
My Thoughts:
Wolf just wants to take care of those that he loves. Chrissy wants what a lot of other women have. The author makes it very easy to see her characters as being real. Could see them as part of a reality show – I'd be a fan. The suspense would add the extra that all other reality shows don’t have and it would keep me hooked.
This story isn’t just about the main characters. The secondary characters help to carry the story along. If you’ve not read this series before then you’re in luck. You won’t be lost by starting here. However, it might be an incentive to see what the other books are about. I have been reading books for a very long time. In all that time, I have to admit that I have never read a book by this author. By the time I finished this story, I had to give myself a pat on the back for finally changing that. Then wondering why it took me so long.
When reading a suspense, you assume that the author will keep everything close to the vest. Ms. Walker puts an interesting spin to that concept. Some might assume that it might be giving something away but she doesn’t do that. To me, it’s a teaser to find out what the true outcome is going to be. It also sets her apart from other authors. There are some chuckle moments that I think help to keep things from getting too dark.
If I’m reading a contemporary, I like to see that at least some things seem believable. Our author does that for me. Maybe it’s because she’s been doing this for a few years now that she knows to give her readers what they want – as well as reaching new ones. It’s possible she does a lot of research but all I know is she’s got the perfect recipe to keep her readers entertained from beginning to end.
