Ivy is in something that she’s not sure she can get out of. Santiago is still looking for his pound of flesh. This beginning solidifies how you will be spending your foreseeable future. It’s also a reason not to start this trilogy here. It would be like starting to read in the middle of a book just so you can get to the ending faster. You won’t understand what is happening between the main characters.
When you start this book, just make sure to start it early in the day. Otherwise, you’ll be in for a very late night. Or you’ll be like me and get up very early the next morning because you didn’t follow your own advice.
Santiago thinks he can control everything around him. But there is a Society that controls even more and we get to see some of their power here. Ivy still hasn’t learned how to toughen up but she’s part of what kept me reading. Santiago is still his brooding self which makes him the perfect one to rule his family. But you’ll find yourself wanting to see his heart.
This was quite the ride. You never knew what was going to happen around the next bend. And that continued right up until the very end. Now I don’t think I’m ready for the next book. Since this is the second book in a trilogy, we already know what that means. But I’m hopeful that I’ll get to read more work by this writing duo. They always know how to pack a punch and leave you wanting more.
