NONBINARY, TRANS, PAN, AND LOVESICK
by E.S. Corby
GENRE: LBGTQ Poetry

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Sex is awkward! Gender is confusing!
Discovering his gender and sexual identities in the lonely dungeon of the pandemic, Echo Corby found an outlet through poetry. Graduating high school as everyone was thrust into isolation, friends were hard to find and love was even harder. Loneliness made him crave connection even more, but what did he like and who would love him?
Piecing together the queer world, Corby uses comedy and anecdote to express the uncomfortable ins and awkward outs of gender, sex, love and all outrage that comes with categorization. This collection of autobiographical poetry is a form of release and expression of the vibrant emotions that so many of the LGBTQIA+ community struggle with.
Corby prides himself as an open-book. The vulnerability enclosed within these pages proves as much.
Read an Excerpt:
I Think My Dog is Transgender
I think my dog might be transgender.
But how am I supposed to tell?
She lifts her leg when she pees and mounts other dogs as a display of dominance,
Maybe that means little to nothing. I know another dog and though arthritis-ridden and old, she still tries to hump me when I sit on their couch.
Again,
How to tell?
Again,
How do we know?
Again,
They are animals,
Incapable of speech,
Incapable of grasping our humanly concept of gender.
What do I mean?
*You remind me of breeding pairs*
Yes, yes. Sexuality. Sexual relationships. The concept of conception.
Sexuality is not gender,
Gender is human made.
Gender is being a man or a woman or something in between, neither or both.
It is not the same as having testicles or ovaries—As we all know.
Transgender, nonbinary, androgynous, genderqueer, gender nonconforming.
Forgive me, I’m not in mourning,
When you say sexuality used to be the same as gender.
It’s not anymore.
It’s strange and it’s complex,
It causes confusion in oneself,
And every word in every text,
That you send to your grandma, explaining what you are.
It means decision and revision
Until you’re tired.
But if animals could understand and vouch for such a thing,
And weren’t scared of it like the furry thing is when there’s a chair in the wrong spot,
Maybe my dog would want to be transgender.
We have no way of knowing, therefore animals can’t choose.
Nor can babies when they exit the womb.
“Mama,” “Dada”—they label us at their first words,
But we label them long before that.
“It’s a boy!” the father cries with a burst of blue confetti,
“It’s a girl!” to a ring of applause.
I once heard someone say, “It’s not a gender reveal, it’s a genitalia reveal.”
Before the umbilical cord is severed,
When baby is still part of surrogate,
They are labeled and they are bound.
They haven’t detached, become their own person,
Their own human,
Yet they are represented as a binary singular.
When will the detainment and constrainment of pink not pertain to a girl?
When will baby blue not bespeak to a boy?
Have a baby,
Call them “they.”
I wouldn’t have it another way,
When gender is as acidic and corrosive as it is.
We choose for our creatures and our spawn,
Because they are subhuman, sub-decision before they can talk.
The decision comes from their privates,
Just like in animals,
And they must exist as thus.
Therefore, choosing a gender besides what your reproductive organs are will always be the minority.
About the Author:
Having started writing “seriously” as an ignorant fourteen-year-old, Echo has progressed in his writing and editing skills since finding the inspiration in middle school. His whole life, his imagination has always driven him in the creative writing and arts fields. The imagination of childhood has never left him but has evolved into something malleable to his career and tolerable in his vocabulary and sentence structure. Echo’s writing and other creative endeavors have deep relevance to his personal life, as his characters, world and themes always reflect aspects of his personality and identity in ways that may go beyond the average reader’s comprehension. Often writers add elements of themselves to their characters, as it is easier to write what we know, but Echo goes beyond that in exploring deeply sentimental to traumatic elements in his life as a form of therapy for himself and others tackling similar internal conflicts. As a trans masc, nonbinary, pansexual man discovering his identity in the middle of a pandemic, his writing also acts as a way of exploring himself deeper as well as dealing with mental health issues he has been struggling with his whole life. Writing is both deeply personal for him and also something he has always wanted to share with the world. He feels emotions are better told then hidden and that building a community is extremely important to recovery and rejuvenation.
Hartley Hanover:
Oooh! I hate that man! Booker Sloan is the most uptight, arrogant, annoying man I've ever met! He even has the nerve to arrest me for not filing a permit. A permit! And when it turns out that I did file it, it just got lost in the shuffle....does he apologize? Heck no! He proceeds to tell me all the things I do wrong every single day of my life! I'm surprised he doesn't yell at me for breathing!
But when I'm alone at night...why do I keep thinking about him? Why does the occasional sadness on his face make me want to fix whatever's wrong in his universe? Why can't he stay out of my dreams and keep those dang handcuffs to himself?
Booker Sloan:
I know I messed up and I should apologize. I shouldn't have acted the way I did. But something about that dang, sweet woman just has me so screwed up that every time I open my mouth the worst things come out!
It's not her. It's me. And I know it. But I feel like if I give her one little inch, the gorgeous woman will take every piece of me I have left. I'm barely hanging on and if I have to push her away to protect myself? Well, that's just how it's got to be.
So why does it bother me so much when a new man in town shows a little interest in the petite, sunny woman who's got me tied up in knots? She's not encouraging him. In fact it seems like she's running away from him.
So how come I still want to punch his grinning mouth and grind him into dust under my boot heels and then haul her over my shoulder and make sure she understands that she's mine?
Excerpt:
Laughing, I reach over and hug little Edward Reese. He hugs me back hard. He is just the sweetest boy.
“Now, I know that you’ve been waiting for this book!” I pull it from behind my back. “Surprise! It came in early and I made sure to set it aside for you!”
“You are the best, Miss Hanover!” His huge, gap-toothed smile makes my heart light.
He hasn’t had an easy time of it lately. His dad got hurt while driving home from work last month and broke his leg so the whole family has had to pitch in to help. Even nine year old boys. So he hasn’t been able to spend as much time in the library as he usually does and he loves to read.
“You just get it back to me when you’re done. Doesn’t matter how long. I’ll take care of it.”
His little round cheeks flush and his freckles disappear in a wash of red. “Thank you so much, Miss Hanover. I can’t wait to read it!” He dances off and his mom smiles at me, watching his light steps before she turns back to me.
“We really appreciate you doing this, Miss Hanover. We’re all working really hard. And Sam is worried about him.” She nods her head at Edward.
I can’t even speak, my throat tight with my own tears. But I clear my throat and say, “I’m glad. I hope that this helps him relax a little bit.”
“It will. Thank you.” She moves off and I turn back, groaning when I’m faced with the last person I want to see.
“Sheriff? How nice to see you.”
His arctic blue eyes glare at the setup on the sidewalk. “I talked to you about this last month with the Christmas in July to-do. You cannot block the sidewalk like this. And did you get a permit this time?”
I nod my head and sigh. “Yes, I did. Last month when you had your hissy fit.”
He stands up straight and pushes his broad shoulders back and I feel that little pull in my belly that I absolutely hate! Why the fuck do I have to react like this around this man?
I mean, sure he’s hot. His light brown hair is thick and gleams in the sunlight. But it’s so tamed that it almost doesn’t look real. His body is tall and tanned, muscles upon muscles to drool over. I jerk my brain back in line.
No, not drool over. Dread. You dread seeing this man. He smiles at me and I growl under my breath.
“Can I see it?”
“I don’t have it on me.” He nods his tawny head at me. “I’ll be back then.”
He steps away and I see him on his little radio talking to someone and I roll my eyes and turn to Mrs. Cassidy, discussing the latest thriller that she just read that I recommended to her.
“I loved it, Miss Hanover! So good! Do you have any more like that?”
I’m nodding at her when I feel a big hand grab my wrist and pull it backwards. My mouth falls open when I see that the Sheriff has a hold of my wrist.
“What the heck are you doing? Get off of me!” I try and pull away and he grits hit teeth, his firm jaw tensing.
“Stop resisting.”
“What are you doing, Sheriff?” Mrs. Cassidy’s mouth is hanging open and she’s glaring at him like he’s mugging me.
“I’m arresting her for disturbing the peace, not having a license for a demonstration and now resisting arrest.”
“You must be joking,” I huff, staring at him.
“Nope.” He grabs my other hand and pulls it behind my back, clicking the handcuffs on my wrists. The cold steel against my skin makes me shiver and freeze in my tracks.
His blue eyes look me up and down and I swear there’s some kind of emotion there that I don’t understand. I don’t think I want to understand it.
I just want him to get away from me and leave me alone. And take his handcuffs and shove them where the damn sun doesn't shine!
Making It Hard
by Tanith Davenport
GENRE: Erotic romance
Release Date:
Rating: 4 Stars
Disclosure of Material Connection:  I received this book for review from Goddess Fish Promotions and the author. I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. BLURB:
Vlogger Angel Metzler likes to create content on her two favourite things – rock music and classic cars. So when lead guitarist Judah Kallam approaches her at a car show and asks her to do some promotion work for him, she accepts – and when she notices someone filming them as he’s flirting with her, she kisses him, hoping this will result in good publicity.
Judah tells her he plans to quit his band Vegas Dreams to go solo and is happy to get any publicity he can by any means necessary. Irresistibly drawn to him, Angel agrees to make public appearances with him, but knows it will go no further – she has made a private vow never to date musicians, having been let down by too many in the past. But when the press attention grows too much to handle, Angel and Judah are thrown closer together and the heat growing between them tempts Angel to break her vow – but will Judah still be interested when the promotion is done, or is she just a groupie to him?
My Thoughts:
Angel has a job she loves, and she gets to meet a lot of people. Judah’s job takes him all over but he’s ready to spread his wings. Their jobs are how they met. If you’ve been reading the Rock My World Series, then you need to include this in your library.
It’s a story that’s over before you know it. Our author knew what to keep out of the storyline in order for things to flow. Since it won’t take long to read, you can do a marathon read of the series. If you have a favorite band, why not play their music in the background for a little ambiance. There’s just enough drama, a buildup of the heat between our main characters, and the author knows just what type of ending these two need.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXCERPT:

As she turned her head towards the next car, a Chevy, she noticed the videographer had moved closer and was filming them both. A sudden idea flashed into her head.

You want coverage? I’ll give you coverage.

Judah had stepped up behind her. She could feel the warmth of his body radiating against her skin, and Angel backed up, letting her body rest flush against his. She heard him chuckle, felt his hands rest on her hips, and it was the work of a moment—Angel turned her head, raising her hand to touch his cheek, and kissed him.

An audible gasp came from the videographer. Angel pretended to be oblivious, focussing only on the brush of Judah’s lips against hers, at first light but then firmer as his tongue glided inside her mouth.

Angel on Tour and Judah Kallam. Let’s see what people make of that.

As their lips parted, Angel cast a deliberate eye at the camera, bringing it to Judah’s attention.

“Going viral by the end of the day,” she murmured.

“Mmm.” Judah’s voice was low in her ear. “It’s a start, but I’m going to need more.”

“I bet you are.” Angel cocked her head, thinking. A kiss was one thing, but she didn’t fancy being followed around the show all morning. She dug in her pocket for her business card, lifted his hand off her thigh and tucked the card into his palm.

“Meet me at my office after the show. I’ll see what I can do.”

Colt is a twenty-two-year-old owner of a biker dive bar that he’s turning around into a success.

Feeling pressure from his dad, he takes time off from work to visit during 4th of July at the family’s lake house.

Maggie is a twenty-eight year old certified public accountant who’s enjoying a week of sun and fun but when Colt rides in, the attraction sends sparks.

Goodreads / Amazon

EXCERPT:

Standing to the side of the house, I hang my matte black Beanie helmet on the handlebars of my Harley. I just arrived at my dad and stepmother’s lake house.

I wasn’t coming this weekend, and if it wasn’t for my dad sounding disappointed when I told him I needed to work, I wouldn’t be here.

The bar I own was a complete dive when I bought it, but I’ve turned it back into its glory state. It’s slowly becoming a popular site with the locals and even the surrounding towns.

You would think my stepmother would give me recognition. I’ve done everything on my own at the young age of twenty-two, but my stepmother’s snooty ways think a bar is beneath her. Her demands of always wanting to be in high society’s social life, only eating at five-star restaurants, being at fancy country clubs, and socializing with people who care less about her have never interested me. Her son possesses many of her snooty traits.

Running my hands through my short, dark hair, the sound of someone spitting out profanity catches my attention.

I spot a set of gorgeous long, toned, and tanned legs. My eyes move up to a perfect, tight ass that makes my dick twitch, but when I scan her breast and her barely covered tits, my cock hardens.

Fuck!

Seeing her face, I realize it’s the girl from my apartment complex. Her blonde hair is up into a messy bun, displaying more of her tan skin around her slender neck.

My dick hardens to full mast, pushing against my zipper, and begging to be released.

I can still feel how it felt to have her pushed against me.

Who the hell is she? Why is she here?

I adjust my cock.

Fuck, she’s hot!

Walking out onto the back patio, I stand over her, blocking the sun. I use this moment to get a close look at her full lips and think about how badly I want to see parted as she screams while I pound into her.

Her head stretches up, trying to look up at me. She lets out a small gasp through her plump lips.

“Umm, can I help you?” Her voice comes out shaky.

She can help me with this rod in my pants.

“I’m Colt,” I announce, “And you are?”

“Maggie,” she whispers.

“Don’t I know you?” Pulling my t-shirt over my head, I don’t miss how her lips part and her nipples harden through the thin leather fabric. She has sunglasses on, but I can tell she’s enjoying the view. I see her throat work.

“I’m not sure. Can you move? You’re blocking the sun.”

“Are you sure?” I grin. “You can admit if you would rather—”

“I would rather have the sun burn my eyes out.” She makes a swiping motion with her hand.

A smirk creeps up on my face. Feisty as shit is just my type. Moving to the lounge chair beside her, I throw my shirt down and unzip my pants.

“What are you doing?

“I’m taking off my pants.” I give her a cocky grin.

“I can see that. Why?” she asks as her face reddens.

I point to the pool. “I’m going to take a swim.”

My Thoughts:

Tawny is having to face her past. But that past comes back with a mystery. Her past has a name and his name is Marsh. Tawny is our guide through this story. Everything is seen through her eyes and her thoughts. If you enjoy rock music, why not play some in the background as you relax and enjoy getting to know Tawny and her man.

Marsh is doing a refresh with his band. Some bands end up having issues due to all the fame and his group is one of them. The mystery of the story revolves around his celebrity. Now that it is concert season, while you’re waiting for said concert to begin why not read this book. Their story also includes a possible second chance.

Tawny and Marsh’s story will be over before you know it. If you have a couple of hours to spare, this can be read in one sitting. You don’t necessarily have to have read the first two books to enjoy this one. But it might give you incentive to see what the other books in the series are about.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT:
As the last words echoed through the air, Marsh opened his eyes and saw her. Tawny met his gaze without flinching. She was years past hiding away.
“And here’s the woman I wrote this for, all those years ago.”
Lola’s eyes widened as she immediately took the bait.
“Can you tell us more about your relationship with Tawny?”
“Oh, that’s a long and complicated story.” Marsh held Tawny’s gaze. “She stood by me while we were first forming as a band. And then, when we were going on our first tour, I didn’t know how long we’d be gone, so I asked her the night we left to come with us—and she jumped right in the back of our van.”
Tawny kept her face impassive as the memory surrounded her.
It had been a risk, she had known that. That was why Marsh had been reluctant to ask her. They had planned for him to go and stay in contact with her, even though she had known how unlikely it was that they would last at such a distance.
And that last night, after the show, Marsh had told her, “Come with me. I want you with me—and whatever happens, let me get you out of here.” And she had ridden away in the rear of his van, with nothing but her handbag and the clothes on her back.
Lola was looking even more eager now, and Tawny had had enough. She had to get out of there.
“Tawny?” Lola asked as she started for the door. “Do you regret giving everything up for Marsh Kilmer?”
Tawny turned and looked Lola full in the eyes.
“Not for a moment.”
And she left, closing the door on Lola’s gleeful face.
