Awakening
The Inner Compass - Book 1
by Abby Wynne
GENRE: Magical Realism

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
When Marissa’s fiancĂ© leaves her unexpectedly, she is left trying to put the broken pieces of her life back together again. The magical years of her childhood are now lost or long forgotten and, trapped in a downward spiral of worry and anxiety, nothing seems to be bringing the magic back any time soon.
Training to become a therapist, Marissa discovers an unforeseen talent for helping others and, for a while at least, she puts her own needs and concerns to one side. An unexpected windfall prompts a spontaneous trip to Peru, and an encounter while she is there triggers an astonishing series of events. Shaken but excited, Marissa embarks on a wonderful journey of revelation and adventure – after which, her life will never be the same again.
Marissa’s story is your story, is my story, is everybody’s story: we each must find our own true path through life, our one true way.
Abby Wynne, author and Shamanic Psychotherapist, brings all her wisdom to bear on Marissa’s amazing tale of discovery and healing. A catalyst for people’s healing processes, Abby is a problem solver, a creative artist, an alchemist, a healer, a mother, a daughter, a lover of life - and it shows in this, her first novel.
You can buy The Inner Compass Trilogy on all good online bookstores.
EXCERPT:
Marissa looked out the window at the moonlight. It was half a moon and seemed to glisten through the tree branches. The leaves were falling, the days were getting darker earlier and earlier. A single star blinked in the pale sky, but the sky was too bright with light pollution to see anything more. She looked at the cloud as it crawled towards the moon, shifting and changing its shape. She could see a dragon in it for a moment, then it turned into puffs of smoke, and then the moon was hidden.
She put the notebook down beside her laptop and climbed into bed, leaving the curtains open. She liked moonlight. Her room in the half-light felt like an in-between place, her breathing slowing down, her body relaxing. Tobermory jumped up beside her, looking straight into her eyes. She stroked his back.
‘My familiar, my friend, my cat,’ she said, ‘what do you think? Do you have an answer for me?’
As usual, Tobermory was silent, but he held eye contact for a moment longer than Marissa expected him to. Perhaps he understood her? He mewed, then curled himself into a black circle on the bed beside her and began to purr.
Training, she thought to herself as she settled under the covers. But who is going to teach me?’
What made you decide to write a work of fiction? Did your background make it easier or harder to develop?
Thanks for asking such a great question! I have published over 10 books in the genre of self-help. I’ve even published a colouring book! If you were to ask me which of my previous books would be the most helpful for a person to navigate their life I would say “How to Be Well” and “Heal your Inner Wounds”. These, in my humble opinion are the manuals you need, the instruction books for life that you feel you didn’t get. You don’t really need anything more if you do the work in both of these books. So what to write next?
I felt for a long time that if I was to write another self-care book, ( I prefer to call them self-care books because they’re imminently practical), it would be a dilution, or a variation of what is already in these two books. Now I could happily do that, but because I am who I am, I actually wouldn’t be happy doing that, I get bored easily.
So I worked with my clients for a while, and I continued to write poetry. I’ve been writing poetry for a long time, since I was about 10 years old, that’s 40 years now! I don’t claim to be good at it by any means, however I have explained some difficult spiritual concepts through poetry, and when I posted poems on social media they seemed to go down well.
In my work as a shamanic psychotherapist, I do come across some amazing and magical things. When I look at a client and see what their issue is, sometimes the issue unravels itself as a story. So I began to write short stories as an elaboration of my poetry practice, to explain difficult spiritual concepts, and to tell some very interesting tales in the process. I ended up with quite a collection of these, so I published them all in a book called Planting The Seeds, short stories, poetry and prayers.
I began to wonder about how to use story as a way to teach spiritual concepts. The greatest spiritual mystery that we come across every day of our lives is good and evil. How does it all work? And why are we here? If I could expand on the short story form I felt I might be able to explain this.  I decided to write a semi-autobiographical novel through the eyes of a fictional character (Marissa)/  The books follow her journey of Spiritual awakening, the ups and downs, the balance and imbalance of suddenly discovering there is more to the world than meets the eye. (Because there most certainly is!). Anyway, Marissa slowly became more substantial to me, as did the other characters that appeared along the way, and the story arc then appeared, to bring her on an epic journey to answer these questions. It became a trilogy. As I wrote the story unfolded itself to me, and as I immersed myself in it more and more complexity and beauty revealed itself to me. It was a wonderful experience.
That answers the first part of your question, to answer the second part, my background of being an avid reader, a poet, a writer, a creative, an artist and an abstract thinker enabled me to play with words that came, and the fact that I have done my inner work allowed me to step out of the way to a greater degree, so I could listen as the story told itself to me. That was a remarkable experience. I just nipped and tucked it here and there, fluffed it up in some parts, toned it down in others. And of course my editor helped polish the language a little too. But the story most definitely told itself to me. I would lie sitting with Marissa in her counselling room wondering who would be showing up for a healing session with her. I’d hear the characters speak and wonder why they said what they said, or did what they did, and then a little ways down the line that would become more apparent. I was sad to finish, but it did have to finish to be complete. (I like to finish things!) And now that I’ve finished it, I’m clearing the decks, so to speak, for more stories to come in and share themselves with me. I really hope they do! And I hope you enjoy reading them too.
My Thoughts:
Make sure to read About the Author. You get to know a little bit about the person behind the book. It also had me wanting to listen to some healing music as I read. It’s a book that I can see reading more than once so I need to get a playlist ready.
Even though there are many types of cancer, and yours (or someone you know) may or may not be mentioned here, you can still take away something from the author’s words. You’ll find that no two people are alike; your type, your stage, or even your treatment may be different. But you can use the book as a learning tool.
In my own journey, I learned to stay strong and think positive. You need support so don’t try and go it alone. People are willing to help so don’t be afraid to reach out. Also, don’t give up on what makes you happy.
Part of the author’s story was a dialogue she has and the forthcoming response. I found it interesting, and yes even a little bit funny, because it had something to do with my own journey. She mentions self-care, something my support group has discussed. So you see, even I got something out of her trek.
As we age, we are all going to get something – some sooner than others. Doing some reading about what you, or a loved one, are dealing with may help you understand that you are not alone. If not for this tour, I may never have found that there is light in the darkness.
EXCERPTS:
Cancer is supposed to change everything—sufferers are supposed to devote their lives to their condition, and thanks to both their illness and their treatment, they are supposed to feel terrible. This has not been my experience at all. Since diagnosis I have felt progressively better apart from one serious, slightly alarming episode. Much of the time I don’t actually feel ill at all. For now, I am contented and have a good quality of life. Friends remind me that in the eleven years before I was diagnosed, I really did suffer—but somehow it feels as though if I could put up with it and carry on working it can’t have been that bad.
Cancer is not a competition, and one person’s experience does not invalidate another’s. What is important is not comparison but sharing discoveries and learning. I have tried in these pages to become a friend to those who are walking a similarly scary path. And cancer is always scary.
Regardless of whether your prognosis is terminal or curable, you will have to carve out a new normal for yourself. Trying to carry on exactly as usual, as I did, masking fear with humour and trivialising the concern of others, is a form of denial. After all, it was some form of the old normal that helped get us into this mess.
Cancer is shit. Always. But it does bring blessings in its shitty wake. If you are reading this book, you likely have cancer yourself or have someone close to you who does. By sharing my path with you, I hope you might occasionally say, ‘Oh yes!’ or ‘Oh, that really is a thing!’ Although my level of well-being is mostly good, I have dealt with all the fears that come with more ‘normal’ cancers—the fears of death, of what will happen if I can’t work, or look after myself, or take care of my cats. These fears are very real and can haunt a person’s waking and sleeping hours. I must remind myself sometimes that SĂ©zary is by no means a fraudulent or insignificant cancer; there will likely be suffering aplenty in my future. My temporary status as a medical miracle does not rob me of my voice.
This is not a How to Overcome Cancer book. There are so many of them out there written by people who are way more knowledgeable than I. I have great faith in my medical professionals, but I don’t leave it all to them. I need to take some responsibility for my own wellbeing. At the outset, I experimented with many things, and I have learned that one person cannot possibly do them all. Self-care is important, but for me it was and is important to maintain some semblance of a quality life as well. Whatever choices I have made in this regard are mine alone. I am not recommending or prescribing them. Everyone’s choices will be different.
RBTL Presents: A Dark Journey Into The Light by Josef; #OnSale, #99Pennies, #LimitedTime
¸.•´¸.•*´¨)✯ ¸.•*¨)
✮ (¸.•´✶ (¸.•` a dark Journey into the light by Josef Smith
Blurb/Synopsis:
A dark Journey into the light is an interesting and thought provoking read for anyone who has questioned urges and desires familiar to us all. I spent sixty years of my life in “limbo” trying to understand what was driving me to explore every fantasy I could find. We all enjoy sex but the book provides interesting insights into the workings of the mind of a sex addict. We are much more than what we feel, and less than what we think. This book explores what is possible when we find balance between the two. This is not a story of finding redemption through “finding God”. It’s simply the story of finding myself.
**************
Josef
a dark Journey into the light was a lifetime in the making and more than 2 years in the writing. One of the biggest issues in life is sex and people usually make a choice. They either follow their desires, or they don't. This book looks at the issues that arose, and the conflict of emotions I had to deal with when I chose both, although it more correctly felt like they chose me.
Life became an exercise in learning about myself by exploring what "lies beneath" as it reared it’s head and found it’s way to the surface. There was no way around the exploration because the battle for supremacy raging between the two was inside me. What was the war all about and what would become of me? I am so much more than what I feel, and much, much less than what I think. This book is my journey of continuing self-discovery as I move through the mystery we call life.
The book is an autobiography so it's pretty much all about me and who I am. I suppose there are a few small things that aren't covered. For instance, I like dogs and horses and I love gardening. I'm a country boy and grew up with spiders and snakes, and although I'm not keen on spiders if one crawls up my trouser leg they don't freak me out either. A snake up the trouser leg though would be a different story! Think “a hillbilly version of River Dance.” I love long hikes over the mountains or across the plains. Just as long as I'm walking somewhere, but at times I wonder if I'm just trying to leave something behind.
RBTL Presents: A Dark Journey Into The Light by Josef; #BookBlitz, #Free, #LimitedTime, #2DaysOnly
Author: Josef
Series: Stand Alone
Genre: Autobiography
Publisher: Self – Published
Release Date: Sept 17 2016
Edition/Formats: eBook
Blurb/Synopsis:
A dark Journey into the light is the true story of a man who, for sixty
years, led a double life.
Josef is lost in a secret world of sexual gratification, a
true-life Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, unable to halt the “roller coaster of conflicting emotional extremes that never stopped long enough for me to get off.”
“I gave myself to that sexual playground completely, and
loved every minute of it when it was happening. It was only afterwards that spikes of shame, guilt, and self-¬loathing would be driven deep into my heart.”
He traces the beginnings of his obsession to his childhood, where his natural innocent curiosity and need for exploration were at odds with his Catholic upbringing and the view of his extremely repressed mother, both of whom regarded the human body as ‘dirty’ and ‘shameful’.
For sixty years, Josef lived a secret double life. The only people who knew about this other life were the professional mistresses, trannies, and prostitutes with whom he indulged every conceivable sexual fantasy. No one in his ‘other’ life had any idea of who he really was or the things he did.
Yet his secret life claimed a terrible toll. The failure of his first marriage. The loss of his son. The loss of his beloved second wife.
Only after extensive therapy was he finally able to see and feel the light of compassion, and allow the healing energy of forgiveness to begin taking away the pain.
In his journey, Josef explores an astonishing variety of topics. In addition to sexual addiction and the hidden world of BDSM, he delves into the burden of guilt of the Catholic Church, fear, political correctness, non-¬judgment, love and loss, philosophy, the soul, spiritual awakening, and healing.
This is the journey of an ordinary man lost in an extraordinary secret, dark world, who ultimately finds his way out of the tangled mess through the power of love and forgiveness.
