My Thoughts:
The author starts our story in an interesting way so don't be one that skips over things in order to start the tale.
Kieran DeAngelo works in the family business. He certainly lives in an interesting family dynamic. Leona Bravado wants a better life. She's part of a family where the women are strong.
I never could figure out why our characters had to tell me what they are wearing. These two helped me to finally figure it out. It's a way for a reader to understand more about who these people are. Just like our own style gives people around us some idea of who we are. It's something we can see and it's part of develops our first impression.
You know how good an author is when she writes a serious scene and somewhere in there you let out a chuckle. It's interesting to see how she creates an alpha tough guy slowly turn into an old softy - sh, don't tell him I said that. It wasn't something that happened overnight and it was fun to watch.
Our author knows just the right moment that she needs to grab the reader's attention. Once she has it, she's not going to let go until the very end. She also creates some mystery/suspense that may have you saying "what is going on?" and "what have you done?" But I'm left with no answers to these questions. Will have to wait and see if the next book will at least answer one of them.
