Dax (Arizona Vengeance, Book #4)
Sawyer Bennett
Release Date: July 9, 2019

Rating:  4.5 Stars
Told in the first person.  Alternating persons.

Disclosure of Material Connection:  I received this book for review from the author.  I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review.  The opinions I have expressed are my own.  I am posting this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255:  "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising".

Synopsis:

The Arizona Vengeance is killing it on the ice. But one player can’t seem to keep his eye on the puck—all thanks to the woman he just married to save her life.

My name is Dax Monahan and hockey is my passion. And if you want to succeed in this sport you have to bust your ass 24/7. I’ve never had a hard time focusing on my career, but when my past comes knocking, no amount of training can prepare me for what lies on the other side of the door.

Regan Miles was always like a sister to me. When a shared tragedy brings us face to face after several years, I’m shocked to see just how much she’s changed. Gone is the shy, awkward little girl that always used to chase me and her brother around. Instead, I’m faced with a gorgeous woman who makes it damn hard to concentrate on anything but her.

Turns out, she’s in trouble, and the only way out is to get married.

I surprise myself when I tell her to marry me. Order her, actually. And most shocking of all, she doesn’t even hesitate before saying yes.

So it’s settled. We’re getting hitched and she’s moving to Arizona with me. All platonic, of course.

The catch?

I never knew I’d fall so hard for my best friend’s little sister.

My Thoughts:

Make sure to read the Foreword and Dedication. It gives you a hint into her inspiration and if you haven’t read Legend you may want to start there first. If you haven’t started the series, you’re only three behind – that’s not too bad. It may be an incentive to go back and read since it’s been a few months since Legend’s story came out. Part of his story bleeds into part of this one and that’s another good reason to get his story done first.

Dax Monahan’s someone who cares about family and friends. He makes a statement that has an invisible exclamation point attached. Regan Miles has had a lot to deal with. I applaud any author that creates a character that isn’t perfect or in this case has challenges that most of us wouldn’t understand. I don’t have quite the same circumstances but I can identify with some of her choices. It’s a great way to give the reader a connection to a character – gives the aspect of realism.

Even with everything going on in their lives, you can feel their instant connection. What I loved was watching this man who plays hockey being felled like a tree by a slip of a woman – oh how the mighty have fallen. There’s just enough in the story about the hockey team and its members but not too much that it would overtake the main issues. In past years, when you thought of hockey players it was the fighting and the missing teeth. But our author shows that there’s a human side to those players. She also brings awareness to something that I had never heard of before. It was watching their lives meld that really caught my attention and kept me turning those pages. Anything else was just icing on the cake plus I already added the next two books into my TBR list because I don’t want to miss anything when it comes to the Arizona Vengeance – especially after getting a sneak peek as to who our next main men are. And how can you not want to see what this author is going to have in store for you next when she wrote such a romantic ending.

Legend (Arizona Vengeance, Book #3)
Sawyer Bennett
Release Date: February 5, 2019
Rating:  4.5 Stars
Told in the first person.  Alternating persons.

Synopsis:

The Arizona Vengeance is hockey’s hottest new team. But hockey’s hottest goalie is learning that even the best players sometimes need an assist.

Everything is clicking for the Vengeance. We may be new, but we’re well on our way to winning the championship, and I’m having the time of my life headlining the sports media as the hottest goalie—hell, player—ever. I for one am going to live up to my name . . . because I am Legend Bay.

Dragging my ass home from the gym, I’m blinded by some gaudy, glowing holiday lights. As usual, my hot-as-hell neighbor Pepper Nantais has gone way over the top. But just as I’m about to tell her off, something else catches my eye . . . Seems like Santa left me a present, and not one I was expecting.

As life takes an unexpected turn, I realize that there’s much more to Pepper than meets the eye. Sure, she’s gorgeous. And exasperating. And her taste in decorating may be a bit . . . unique.

But beneath her carefree demeanor is a fierce determination and a heart of gold. And before I know it I’ve fallen for her. Hard . . .

Pepper is exactly the woman I never knew I needed.

My Thoughts:

Legend Bay has a tiny package that he’s stunned by.  His story humanizes the hockey player.  Our author shows how they go through the same trials and tribulations just like everyone else.  Pepper Nantais likes to stay true to herself.  She shows how sometimes you can count on a neighbor being there to lend a helping hand.

I watch some of the shows on HGTV and it’s interesting to see how many people want no neighbors.  What happens when an emergency or the unexpected happens?  Having an extra pair of hands can come in handy and can also help to take some of the pressure off your shoulders.  Having someone close by, no matter how quirky, can be a good thing.

This story quickly became very addictive.  Give me a sexy hunk, a woman who dances to her own tune, and a little sweetie and I’m glued to my comfortable chair.  I’d say to set the mood by going to a hockey game but in this case, I say stay at home because you won’t want to be distracted for even one second.  You’ll not realize how quickly this story moves along and that just shows how deeply you’ve gotten sucked into what’s going on.

I didn’t even mind the twist that almost stopped me in my tracks.  But Legend and Pepper make a great team so I know everything will be all right.  Our author has created a situation that could really tear at your heart.  But instead of bringing her readers down, she turns it around and will get you to chuckle.  At one point, you may even need a tissue – which just shows how realistic this story seems.

We meet a couple of Legend’s teammates that seem to have reoccurring appearances.  Both of them had me questioning which of their stories will be next.  Tacker spoke the loudest to me.   He seems to be crying out for help.  But he doesn’t take my attention away from what’s really going on with our main characters or from the very romantic ending.  Now I just have to wait to see if I’m right or will our author just surprise me once again.

Sawyer Bennett
Release Date: November 5, 2018
Rating:  4.5 Stars
Told in the first person.  Alternating persons.

Disclosure of Material Connection:  I received this book for review from the author.  I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review.  The opinions I have expressed are my own.  I am posting this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255:  "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising".

Synopsis:

The Arizona Vengeance are developing a reputation on the ice as one of hockey’s top teams. But one player’s reputation off the ice might just keep him from scoring. . . .

I’m having the time of my life with my new brothers on the Arizona Vengeance. We may be an expansion team, but after notching some big wins, the entire league knows to watch out for Erik Dahlbeck. That’s me.

The only person who doesn’t seem to think I’m so great? Blue Gardner, the hot-as-f*** flight attendant on our team plane. I sure wouldn’t mind joining the mile-high club with her, but besides bringing me lukewarm coffee, she won’t give me the time of day. Whatever I did to rub Blue the wrong way, my teammates think it’s hilarious. After all, we’re used to women flocking to us. #puckbunnies

When I run into Blue back on land, I’m shocked to learn how she spends her time off: taking care of her handicapped brother. There are layers to this girl I never imagined, layers I can’t wait to peel away. And that’s a new feeling for me.

But first I’ve got to find a way to melt that ice-cold stare. Because as much as I try to pretend I don’t care what Blue thinks of me, how can you not care when you’re falling for someone?

The Arizona Vengeance will continue in 2019! CLICK HERE to see the whole series, including preorder links and the brand spanking new cover for Dax (Book #4).

My Thoughts:

Someone has caught Erik Dalhbeck’s attention. He plays hockey, in case you couldn’t guess, and you may just be surprised who his team plays against – I know I was. Blue Gardner sometimes finds it hard to juggle two things at once. It’s a lot to have on her shoulders. I can understand what she sometimes has to deal with and some of you may as well.

You wouldn’t know it, after first meeting Blue, but she has a very devious mind – loved it! Then it gets even better. I laughed very loudly in my head. Had to do it in my head because I didn’t want to explain since I was in the staff lounge where I work. This author always seems to know what scenes are going to get me to laugh. I know that when I pick up a book of hers, I’m going to have a good time.

But the author doesn’t give me everything at once. She builds both momentum and anticipation. She knows just what to keep my attention focused on our couple while adding just enough to wonder where the series is going to go. Then I’m pulled back to our main characters and the heat they create when they’re together. In the next instant the author creates a scene that tugs at the heart and made me wish I was there so that I could see the character’s faces.

With this book I kept having this feeling that I was being set up for the next book in the series. I was so happy to see that I was actually right for a change. I’m terrible at guessing things so it was a pleasant surprise. The disappointment is that I have to wait until February. Whatever will I do? Maybe I can go back to the other hockey series, Cold Fury.

Bishop: An Arizona Vengeance Novel
Sawyer Bennett
Release Date: August 14, 2018
Rating:  4.5 Stars
Told in the first person.  Alternating persons.

Disclosure of Material Connection:  I received this book for review from the author.  I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review.  The opinions I have expressed are my own.  I am posting this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255:  "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising".

Synopsis:

Meet the Arizona Vengeance, hockey’s hottest new team. They’re burning up the ice—until a one-night-stand with the coach’s daughter freezes one player in his skates.

Bishop Scott, co-captain. Not too shabby, huh? It’s all part of my fresh start with the NHL’s latest expansion team, and that means new teammates, a new coach, a new city, and a big new contract. Basically, I cannot f***ing wait to show my old squad what they’re missing.

But first, I decide to check out the town before the grind begins. Turns out Arizona chicks are totally smokin’, and I’m fortunate enough to meet one who’s looking for the same thing I am: a night of anonymous, unforgettable, no-strings-attached sex.

Fast forward to the Vengeance arena. It’s the last place I expect to see her again—let alone in her own office. Then bells go off and I finally realize who this girl is: Brooke Perron. My new coach’s daughter. All of a sudden, we’re picking up right where we left off, which means our hands are all over each other. That’s when her dad—my boss—walks in. And before I can get a word out, Brooke’s introducing me as her fiancé.

Sure, she just saved my ass. So why do I get the feeling Brooke’s going to turn my world upside down? Maybe it’s because this fake relationship feels way too real. . . .

My Thoughts:

Bishop Scott seems to be one lucky man.  He has a good friend named Dax.  Brooke Perron in one moment seems like a real fashionista and the next she seems a little vulnerable.  I liked the fact that she didn’t want to just ride on her father’s coattails but wanted a job that meant something.  There are a few secondary characters that I look forward to getting to know better.

It was interesting to watch a relationship develop in reverse.  I had no trouble picking up on our couple’s connection.  Some just seem to have an instant heat and that’s true with Bishop and Brooke.  Our author does a good job in developing her secondary characters as well.  They are necessary to the way the scenes flow.  You also see how well she goes about doing that because she was able to create a character that I hated – one word, leech.  But then as I got to see more of her my one word kept changing.

This is when you know the author’s done a great job with her book.  She’s able to create something that affects my feelings so much that I want to express them.  In this case, I can’t decide whether I want to give her a swift kick or a good punch to the…  But she also had me cringe every time I saw this character’s name.  She’s a loud one – she seems to command your attention.  I was happy when she disappeared from the scene because I could see her easily taking the story over and changing my feelings about the beginning of the Arizona Vengeance series.

Usually when you have the first book in a series the story can get a little long because the author uses it to build the world that will become the backdrop for the stories that follow.  This author doesn’t do that here.  No scene seems to drag and nothing seems out of place to what is going on with the characters.  This was a great book to the start of a brand new series and I’m very interested to see where the author plans to take me next.
